My mom was just at TRU and they said they would take things back w/o the receipt up until tomorrow, after that you need the receipt. Has anyone had any luck with returning things there w/o the receipt? I haven't in years.:confused3

They can look the reciept up in the computer now. I believe a manager has to do it.

I'm so ill with TRU about a return that I doubt I shop there again unless they are GIVING stuff away!! I bought DD two big boxes of diapers for her DS. He grew too quick and he outgrew them before she opened the second box. I carried them back on BF since we live 1 1/2 hrs away and they said they were doing no returns that day. We went back last weekend and they looked up the receipt, did the return, rang up the same diapers in a larger size and charged us $12.50!!! WTH!!! It was the same thing so it should have been an even exchange!

All I can say is BEWARE!!! :headache:

Actually, its not an even exchange. You purchased a different size, and the prices may not have been the same.

Shmilly, I wouldn't even go if they were giving stuff away because I can just about guarantee you they will not have it. I tried to shop their several different times this year. The Fri/Sat special sales were a joke. I got there before the started and never ONCE got what I was looking for. Twice I was told they never had it in the first place. Happened with the Lego Walkie talkies too which were supposed to be a TRU exclusive. Pretty exclusive alright. Our store never had them and you couldn't get them online either.

I am a slow learner, I admit it, but I am done with their bad customer service and lack of product.

I am back and they took my 2 items w/o the receipt and I had 2 zhu zhus with a gift receipt and we got $87 in store credit, which worked out b/c DD wanted to use that and her Christmas money for the DS. (She snagged the last pink one, she was super excited haha).

The man told me (and I believe he was the manager) that they were taking the returns up until tomorrow w/o the receipt, and if it was any other time of year they would not take them back w/o the receipt.

Also, I mentioned my mom was there earlier and they had a lot of zhu zhu accessories. She picked two up for DD for her birthday.

I spose I better call them and ask then BC I have 4 zhu zhus and some acces. that need to go back and they were all gifts.....

what is their time limit for returns with a receipt? 90 days? I guess my question is, what if I bought some things for Christmas during the summer?

What if an item is open and doesn't work? I just want to do an even exchange...we got DD the moon in my room that she had really wanted and the remote doesn't work:( Will they do an exchange? I don't have the receipt.

My guess is anything you purchased in the summer is outside the return period.

I think I would try it. They seem to be pretty easy going right now with the holidays.

I don't know, but I would try it, I would be really annoyed if I got DD something and it didn't work. The worst thing they could do is tell you to call the manufacturer.

I just said it was an even exchange because the tags on the shelf were the same. :confused3

Did the price increase from the time you initially purchased the smaller size? That would trigger you needing to pay more, because the 'return' was processed at an old price and the new purchase made at the new price.

If the prices were the same on your looked-up receipt and the shelf tag, did you question them about it?

I bought my dd a scooter online tru... it came begining of November.. when she opened it on cmas... there was a crack in it. I called on the 26th and was given a bunch of crap cause it was over 30 days for their return policy! I was like HELLO... it was a Christmas gift... Not everyone shops on Black Friday...some of us shop a week or so before! We went round and Round...FINALLy after much drama...and "special Approval"... 2 days later They sent me a return label via email. I am not happy!

I've been disgusted with TRU for several years and now shop there maybe once a year at the most. I went there one Friday evening in December this year and it was a big mistake. I was looking for something specific for my nephew that they were supposed to carry. I thought I'd go ahead and take care of several other toy purchases at the same time. It didn't work that way.

Entire sections of the store were empty. I mean like 12 foot of shelving had absolutely nothing on it. They were sold out of all but one item I had gone there for and in that case I got the last one on the shelf! This was on a Friday at about 5pm so just at the beginning of the weekend.

I ended up purchasing two items. One was a Tinkerbell CD Boombox. It was for my mom to give my dd4. I purchased it for her and dropped it and the receipt off at her house. After Christmas we opened it to put in on her dresser.

You guessed it - it was defective. The CD spins making a very loud high pitched squeel noise and then shows an error. Tried it several times and it doesn't get any better. I tried calling the 800# for the manufacturer and they seem to be out of business. I still have to get the receipt from my mom and do the return and I am not looking forward to it. Also, their website was out of stock and this was the last on the store shelf when I purchased it so I'm wondering if I'll even be able to get another or will have to explain to dd why she is getting something else.

Again, I'm not happy with TRU and don't think I'll even ever go there again after the return.

I tried to return a Lego set, received as a gift with no gift receipt to TRU last week. They would not take it. I know they sell the set there. It really annoyed me. I ended up taking it back to Target. I don't know where my dad purchased it, but TRU should have taken it back, IMO.

NO!! TRU will not return or exchange without a receipt. Period.

I sent my niece two Loving Family dollhouse furniture sets for Christmas. They were Toys R Us exclusive sets (big sticker on them that said "Toys R Us Exclusive"). My niece already had one set, so my SIL took the set, my 3 year old niece and headed to Toys R Us to do an exchange earlier this week.

Toys R Us refused to exhchange. The store manager told her that she could have picked up the sets anywhere (hello ... Toys R Us exclusive right on the box) or it could have been a buy 1 get 1 promo ... so no refund. My SIL was livid, my niece was crying b/c they made a special trip to exchange the set. SIL called corporate when she got home and was told that the store manager was following policy and NO refunds and exhanges were to be issued without a receipt.

I still have the original receipt, so I'm sending it down to my SIL ... but I don't know if she will go back to the store ... she's really PO'd.

I guess I should have asked for a gift receipt, but it really never occurred to me.

I guess different stores have different policies? :confused3 B/c they did honor what they told my mom, and that was that they would take things back that they sold there w/o a receipt, but only til today. BUT last year (or maybe it was 2 years ago) the day after Christmas I went to TRU to return things that DD got duplicates of that I knew TRU sold and I did not have a receipt for. There was a man standing at the door telling everyone "No Receipt, No Return." MANY people were turned away, I later met them on line at WalMart. But, when I returned my items this year to TRU w/o a receipt the manager made it very clear to me that they were only doing this b/c of the Christmas season and not to expect that they would take items back w/o a receipt at any other time during the year.
There needs to be some sort of consistency though, and I think these stores should be a little more lenient around the holidays. Especially in your case, that the "Exclusive to TRU" was on the box. I had that issue with KMart as well, on the tag it said KMart right next to the barcode but the lady, who was very nasty with me, would not take it back.

I think it is so weird how we are all having different experiences! B/c TRU took back my items w/o the receipt, but Target would not take back my items w/o the receipt, even though it was Xhiliration, which is their name brand clothing.
