Ok, need some help with morning sickness! What to do?

My cousin (who I briefly mentioned in my earlier post) was also on Bendectine during her first pregnancy and they pulled it off the market after she had only taken it a few weeks. That's when she got SOOOO sick. And subsequently ended up in the hospital two times. At that point, they did not offer her Phenergan or Tigan.
::yes::
There were (and still are) good studies that Bendectine worked. IMHO, taking it off the market harmed a lot of people who would have benefitted from it (like your cousin). Ironically, I had a friend who was Canadian. When Bedectine went off the market in the US, it remained available in Canada. Evne though she was living in the US, she went home to Canada to get her Bedectine (and joked that she could be picked up for drug running).

Sea sickness wristbands helped me. Also chewing gum. I thought for a long time I had to keep eating to keep from getting naseaus, but then I realized for me it was more of a saliva thing, and the chewing gum worked just as well as food.

Good luck. I hope it passes quickly.

Wow your post brings back alot of memories from 21 years ago! I was having the worst morning sickness that often lasted all day. I was hospitalized twice for dehydration. And then after a not so pleasant test discovered I had alot of acid in my system. My cure was drinking (what my doctor jokingly called) a shot glass of Mylanta (kind of minty, chalky tasting) after meals and before bed. It was my life saver and thats how I made it through.

one word..LEMONS ....yep..i sucked on them..put them in my water...anything i could...it helped sooth my tummy..i was sick with my daughter for the whole nine months...but the lemons made it a bit better..and with my son...not as bad..but lemons were my savior... :worship:

I am so sorry for you. Anyone who has had morning sickness that reads this is really feeling your pain.
I had no problems with my first child, but #'s 2&3 were horrible. Sick 24 hrs a day. I lost 12 pounds in two weeks with DS ( I only weighed 110 lbs to begin with, 5 foot 7,) and I couldn't even walk. Had to take 2 weeks off of work (a nurse) and I remember being in a room with patients, excusing myself and running down the hall to throw up. Then having to go back in and act normal.
The Dr gave me phenergan also. It literally saved my life. I had to take it, even at night if I was sleeping, I'd wake up, just to throw up!
Phenergan has been on the market for a long time, I was comfortable using it. Other than that, make sure you eat something, anything, every 1 1/2-2 hours. The trick is to never let your stomach empty. Also, gatorade. Sometimes if I could drink that, I wouldn't throw up.
Try crystalized ginger, suck on it. Also, suckers, peppermints...anything to keep that yucky tast out of your mouth.
The wrist bands did nothing for me but some people say they work. Anything is worth a shot.
Good Luck to you!

I had terrible Morning Sickness with my 1st and last pregnancies. Both of my SIL's who are OB/GYN nurses and both of my OB's *2 different ones* told me to take Benadryl, Dramamine or Meclizine. I did and it was my wonder drug. It did make me somewhat sleepy so I cut the pills in 1/2. That and eating a lot of small snacks during the day got me over the worst part.

I hope you get feeling better soon

I could not stand 7Up or gingerale and crackers, but I could drink grape Gatorade. In fact, I drank so much of it, I cannot even smell it now!

I must have eaten macaroni and cheese every day for the first trimester. That, dry cereal and Altoids sour lemon drops worked for me.

Good luck, and I hope you get to feeling better soon!

I had problems throughout both of my pregnancies but thankfully it wasn't severe just mornings and sometimes during the day.

I agree with the advice to not let yourself get hungry. An empty stomach was a trigger for me.

I'm a little strange and found that milkshakes or even a glass of milk helped. I know most people stay away from dairy but for me they helped settle my stomach.

I feel bad for the OP and can totally relate. When I was pregnant, I started to feel a little morning sickeness about a month in. Then it was just nonstop until my baby girl was born. I was getting up literally only to throw up, couldn't eat anything. My Ob put me on Phenergen but I had a severe allergic reaction to it, my jaw totally locked up after I took it. He then tried Compazine to which I had the same reaction. Finally, he tried Zofran and that at least made me able to function. I was still sick but I was able to get up.

Before he found the medication, I was at the hospital for iv's at least 3 times a week, finally I was hospitalized for a week and a half. That's when he hit on the Zofran. The sickness lasted until the second she was born. I remember feel like a curtain opened and everthing got brighter as soon as I delivered her. The turkey sandwich that I ate after giving birth never tasted so good lol.

Hang in there it really is all worth it in the end. If you ever need to talk, feel free to pm.

:wave2:

Congratulations Amanda. I was wondering where you were since I didn't see you joining the exchanges.
How far into the pregnancy are you?

I agree with the posters who mentioned sour candies, licorice and ginger. Things like dry cereal also helped me- but sugary kinds, like fruit loops, honey smacks, corn pops...my second pregnancy was the worst and I felt cruddy thru the 6th month. Also things like COLD pineapple (again, the sour thing), COLD apples helped. I hope you feel better very soon! :wizard:

Thanks so much guys! I really appreciate all the ideas. I will definately be trying some of them. I have just got to find something to take this edge off. I was SOOO sick with my first one. I was in the hospital 3 times for iv fluids. It was so horrible. It lasted all day every day for 5 months. Then after that I had to deal with low blood sugar and would get really dizzy and feel like I would pass out soon as it got low. Some how you seem to forget those things when you are ready to be pg again.

I have not thrown up yet with this pg. I am just sick ALL DAY LONG! I am so nauseous, I have a really hard time eating certain things and a very hard time drinking. I can't get vitamins down and I can not take pills at all. I could not take them before pg either. They all make me so sick! So, if the dr would give me meds it would not be able to be in the pill form. I end up laying on the couch all day or taking naps hoping to sleep it off and that is just misreable. I end up with bad headaches from that. I am pretty sure I am on the dehydrated side b/c I have had a low grade temp for about 2 weeks now. I am trying to get down as much as I can and avoid going to the ER this time. OH I really hate it. I do not know how I will take being this sick for months like I was with my son. I am really hoping it will pass sooner this time but I will not hold out too much hope. Having a hubby who does not understand just how badly I feel and why I can't force down the liquids for the babys sake does not help much either. I tell him if he were this sick for just ONE day he would totally understand how I feel.

Smells definately bother me right now. They are just terrible. I can not stand the smell of pasta and that is normally my fave thing!

Anyways, sorry to ramble on. I am just feeling so horrible all day long I had to come ask for some help!

Thanks for all the ideas you guys have gave. :goodvibes

Oh how I miss all the wonderful exchanges! :guilty: I hope that I will feel up to joining them again before long. Hopefully this will pass by the end of my first trimester. It is not fun at all! I will be 2 months along tomorrow. Oh even the thought of dealing with this for another month seems unbearable..lol

Thanks for the congrats!

I am now 9 1/2 weeks into my pregnancy. When is your EDD?
Hang in there, you have something to look forward to at the ending of the pregnancy.

My edd is Sept 4th. I am guessing going by Ethan comming 2 weeks early that this one will be a late August baby. :) When are you due? That is awesome that you are expecting too! Huge congrats to you!!

I am another Zofran user. I have Zofran ODT it is an oral dissovle tablet.
I have been on reglan, phenagren and Zofran Zofran works best with the least side effects.

Word of warning about Zofran though is it like $30.00 a tablet.

TheDisneyBunch,

The Phenergan is in a suppository form so it goes in, AHEM, the *other* end! :teeth:

Although I have never been pregnant before I do have bouts of nausea from motion etc...
I purchased this for my cruise last year and if you can get past the tingle,, it does the trick!!! ;)
