Ok, need some help with morning sickness! What to do?

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I had 24 hr nausea with both my boys. A few things helped...cinnamon gum and toothpaste(can't stand the stuff now)...anything mint made me gag. I constantly ate and ate whatever I craved, mostly bad stuff like Pop Tarts and Burger King cheeseburgers.

I nursed Alex through my 1st trimester of Ethan's pregnancy, so I couldn't take what I was told was a miracle combo...50mg of B6 2xday and Unisom (regular kind) 1/2-1 pill 2x day. Google Unisom and morning sickness and I'm sure you'll find some info on it. When my DH gets bouts of nausea it works really well for him.

I tried the preggie pops and seabands...those didn't work for me, but they might for you.

I hope you start feeling better soon.

I was never pregnant before, but after hearing experiences from morning sickness from my mom and reading these posts, I had very similar symptoms to it when I was on a certain medication.

The most troublesome side effects were nausea. I had smell aversions and taste aversions. I craved foods that I didn't usually eat, some that were "off limits" for me. I was prescribed Promezathine to help with the nausea (but it was a major sedative) and then tried Zofran (which KellyLynn mentioned), which worked very well for me, although it was expensive & the taste is bitter.

Like most people said, having food in your stomach and eating a little frequently throughout the day might help. I carried crackers & the Zofran around in case I ever got hit with a wave of nausea.

I hope you feel better! I know how exhausting feeling nauseous can be.

Ginger Ale helped me but if you are really bad I suggest Phenergan or Zofran (if your insurance covers it as it is $$$$$$$$)

There is no reason you have to be completely miserable and put your health at risk.

I had awful all day sickness from 6 weeks to about 20 weeks. Suprisingly, I didn't have any aversions to food or smells, just nothing would stay down!

Honestly, the best advice is to eat whatever sounds appetizing to you. What works for one person may not work for you. Also, stuff that I could stomach one week would not work the next week. And don't worry too much about nutrition at this point....just try to keep yourself hydrated as best as possible.

The only two things that really stayed down for me were gatorade (fruit punch) and Ensure shakes. The good thing about the Ensure shakes were that if they came back up, at least they didn't taste to bad :sad2:

I did try the Phenergan (?) suppositories and they really didn't help. Eventually my doctor prescribed Zofran and it worked wonderfully! It truly was a miracle drug. Very expensive though (even with my insurance covering most of it) but it was worth every penny. I was actually able to function on it. Best wishes, it is tough to get through!

I had terrible morning, noon and night sickness when I was pregnant with my son. I had an awful time with smells - anything from someone's cologne/aftershave to car exhaust or even the smell of someone else's cooking food made me hurl.

I tried the sea bands, but they didn't help at all. The only thing that worked was keeping food in my stomach at all times. I practically LIVED on Snyders hard pretzles and fruit punch Gatorade!

I just wanted to say that I was just like you with my first pregnancy, though my sickness ended a little earlier, around 18 weeks. I was so, so sick everyday and couldn't keep anything down. This time around, same thing only worse if that's possible, but I'm now 12 weeks and I really think the all-day sickness is starting to go away. I still feel very queasy all day, but not vomiting constantly like I was and I'm able to eat and drink a bit more now too. I felt just like you when the sickness started at 5.5 weeks and thought "No way can I make it through this for another 12 weeks!!!" And luckily for me it seems like I won't have to cause it's subsiding sooner this time. So hopefully it will be shorter for you this time around too cause I know how horrible you must feel. Oh, and nothing made me feel better. I tried the Preggie Pops and they seemed to work as long as I had one in my mouth, but once it was gone I was sick again. Some days all I could eat were a handful of saltines and that seemed to help a bit.

BTW, I'm due just a few days before you, August 28, and my daughter was born 2 weeks early too so I'm hoping for a mid-August baby with this one.

Hope you'll be feeling better soon!

Thanks for the ides you guys! I have not logged on in a while b/c getting on the computer seems to kill me head. I hate getting headaches b/c it makes me feel worse. I am 11 weeks and 3 days now. I am still praying this starts letting up on me next week and does not last as long as it did with my son. I have been really misreable the past 2 weeks. Tons of throwing up and i have lost 9lbs. I keep having periods where I think maybe it is letting up on me but then I just get sick as a dog and realize it is not.

I got the phenergan and they did not help me at all and they were so expensive so I am hating knowing that money went right down the drain. I am scared to try the Zofran now so I am just hoping this is going to let up on me soon.

I am so looking foward to the nice part of pregnancy! I just hate being sick like this. All my fave smells, they just send me over the edge now. It is crazy.

Thanks again for the thoughts. It is nice to read them. :)

Ughhh... I remember that stage not-so-fondly ;) I just remember ANY smell sent me realing..

So basically I would treat it like if you had extremly bad nasal allergies and get stuff that is fragrance free (soap, lotion, laundry soap). Also , try to avoid strong food smells like onion (or in my case taco seasoning :crazy2: )

This may sound weird, but the smell of plain Ivory soap made me feel good! lol
