The teacher is thrilled that Mike could do a pirate talk but wants to know were there ever pirates at castaway cay (and the real name of it before DCL took over) and what about Anguilla or St. Maarten or St. Thomas......................HELP
The real name of Castaway Cay was (and still is) Gorda Cay. I have never heard stories of pirates having been there, but I'm pretty sure the airstrip was used to run drugs.
I believe Anguilla was a pirate haunt in the 17th century. I'm sure most any island in the Caribbean was used as a base by pirates at some point before they were colonized.
It IS DS's report not mine but I am so happy to point him in theright direction! Thanks for all the great hints he is not so nervouse now and is going to look at the websites that were recommened before we leave and hopefully come hope with a nice report... thanks everyone!!
YES my arch enemy SNOW did arrive while I was asleep!! I looked out the window and shrieked... I HATE SNOW.. I REALLY need to move away from New England.. I hate it,, I hate it,, there is nothing good about the cold nasty make your car skid rotten snow!
Instead of researching just Gorda Cay, Mike might want to consider that Gorda Cay is one of the Abacos Islands. By using the angle that Gorda/Castaway Cay is representaitive of the Abacos, Mike might find a lot more material.
Do a Google search on "pirates blackbeard abacos" for a bunch of Web sites that deal with pirates in the Abacos Islands.
Pirates of the Bahamas — that sounds almost as good as Pirates of the Caribbean.
I have a DCL brochure that shows Captain Hook and Mr. Smee on Castaway Cay — but those probably aren't the pirates that Mike's teacher had in mind.
