Okay! It has been forever since I used birth control, but now want to give it another go. Please share the type you use, if you like it, and if you had any side effects/weight gain/ or any acne issues with it.

THANKS!!:goodvibes

I gave birth to three kids with natural childbirth (I'm stupid) so my husband had the snip. It was the least he could do IMHO ;)

I am on Loestrin 24 FE and love it!! I have experienced no side effects, but of course, it effects everyone differently.

Good luck!

I was on the depo-provera shot for 2 years and was pretty fond of it. You get it every 12 weeks, just a quick shot in the arm - although the liquid is a little thicker than most shots, so it can burn a little as it goes in. You don't get your period at all while on the shot (although some women can have some spotting I think, but I didn't) which was pretty awesome. :thumbsup2 Side effects.. I did gain weight while I was on the shot, but I wouldn't attribute it to the shot necessarily. Those 2 years were pretty stressful for me (a couple deaths in the family) and unfortunately I'm an emotional eater.. :rolleyes1 So that was probably the problem, not the shot, although I like to blame it on the shot sometimes. Acne got a little better, although I've never really had a bad acne problem. The one thing I DID notice was mood swings.. and my fiance definitely noticed too. I got off the shot because they recommend you be on it for 2 years at a time, then take a break for awhile. Plus, the shot causes thinning of your bones, so you should take a calcium w/vitamin D supplement to offset that.

I've been on Lutera (pill) for the past year and have hated it. It was bad enough that I was getting my periods again, but they were really really irregular after the first 2 - even after my doctor bumped up the dosage of my pill. I've heard it happens a lot with this brand of pill. I was also tired ALL THE TIME and the mood swings didn't get much better either.

Soo.. next month I'm starting Ortho Tri-Cyclen. I'm hoping this pill works out better than the Lutera did.

I take ortho tri cyclin, and I recently developed Melasma (brown spots under my eyes, on my upper lip and my forehead) and I cannot go in the sun and even with lots of makeup I cant cover it totally. My dr just referred me to a dermatologist and suggested I stay away from a Tri cyclic and do a low dose BCP in the meantime. SO she just changed me to Loestrin until I can see the dermatologist and get this worked out.

I would avoid the three color kind of pills just in case!! Having this is so awful, it looks like I have a mustache if i go in the sun. So all summer I have had to hide from the sunshine, and use creams to make it go away. I have been told by some of my coworkers that it takes months to go away and will not go away unless I stop taking bcp altogether, but I will let you know after I see the derm!!

So go with the low dose if you can.

My doctor just switched me to Ortho Tri-Cyclen  How common is that, any idea?

Right now I'm using a little thing called a Vasectomy. He wanted a truck I wanted off the pill.

Seriously though, just before he went under the knife I was on Seasonale. Worst thing I ever ever did. It's permanently messed up my hormones. They warn about break thrus. I was pratically hemoraging (sp?) for over a month - it was horrible. I went off it. I'm still seriously heavy. I end up with major cyclical anemia. I totally blame the Seasonale. I had ultra light periods before that, but thought it sounded like a good option that would allow a lot of freedom - not. BTW I've tried about four other pills - In between pregnancies they would alway put me on different one. Loestrin was my favorite - I was on it the longest. Never had a problem with it.

So after three kids and my experience with Seasonalle, When DH wanted a truck, I was seriously evil and used it as a bargaining chip not to go on another pill or have to deal with other methods. It worked :rotfl:

I have an IUD I can't remember what it is called but it is cooper so there not any hormones. I love it I will say my periods are a little heavier & 1 day longer but mine used to be only 4 days so now they are 5. and I am really regular. You can use it up to 10 years before having it removed. Cast all together about 750.

I've been taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen since 9th grade, initially to help with cramps. Then switched to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo my senior year. Still taking it. I love it, it actually helped with the acne I had at the time and I have never had any side affects.

dd.. has had an Implanon implant for 2 years.. it has worked very well.

Depo 4 years - no weight gain but no weight lost either, lost hair nothing major though...moody...alittle bit. Acne more towards the last year of being on it ...which is strange because I never had an acne problem before that. No spotting...no period..LOVED it!

Now on the Yaz pill - no weight gain, but no weight lost either. Acne totally cleared up. No other side effects other than its a pain to take a pill every day but better than a third child :thumbsup2

I use the depo provera shot and I love it. Its definitely not for everyone though, I am lucky to not have any side effects other than not having my period :thumbsup2. I do take calcium supplements and get a bone density test done every year. As long as that comes back A-OK, my ob/gyn has no problem with me staying on it.

Not sure if you are looking for anything permanent. I had the essure procedure done. They insert it into your tubes which then causes scar tissue to grow around it blocking your tubes so that nothing gets in and nothing comes out. This is not reversable so you have to be very sure that you do not want more kids. I still have periods but they seem to be normal.

I was on Trinessa (generic for Ortho-Tricyclene (sp?). I hated it! It made me nauseous and the week before my period I was so emotional and crazy. The doctor told me that that was common as the level of hormones build each week with the last week being the worst. My insurance didn't cover any of the cost of any low hormone birth control.

Another negative experience from Seasonale!! Horrible!!! It said you may have breakthru. Break thru for the entire 3+ months I was on it. Supposedly it was suppose to get better on pack 2. Well on my 2nd week in pack 2, I called my OB and asked to get Apri back. That's what I was on before I had DS #3. I don't remember any issues, I was off it for about 16 months...and I've been back on for 2 weeks, all was good 2 days after I stopped Seasonale. It's suppose to make you only have your cycle every 3 months... I've read sooo many negative experiences.

i was always on ortho products until I saw my current OB. I've been using Apri since 07.

I've been researching Ortho Tr-Cyclen Lo, as I am in need of something low-dose. I'm hearing many complaints about weight gain and depression though, so it's making me apprehensive. Sigh. So many pills, so many side effects... :rolleyes1

I use YAZ I love it... I have no side effects and I use it for three months straight at a time, so I only have my monthly 4 times a year... HTH
