Can you tell I'm terrified of having my trip blown by seasickness...I'm so prone to it I'm literally scared! I'm also 5 months PG so Tomorrow at my doc appt. ..I'll ask which one she suggest I try first.
Of course the sea bands sound interesting, has anyone had any luck with this..and is one enough or do I need TWO?
Thanks!

I have a friend who borrowed my seabands when she was pregnant. They were the only thing that helped her from being sick on a daily basis. She took them off to take a shower and couldn't shower fast enough and get them back on before she was getting her morning sickness back. You cannot take any of the bonine or dramamine being pregnant. The seabands will work and my friend swore by them all 9 months of her pregnancy. Good Luck!!!

I am not sure, but at 5 months you might be able to take the dramamine or bonine...I would ask your doc. Maybe you could get a few Phenergan pills just in case you DO get sick...I KNOW you can take that pregnant..(20 years in OB and we gave it all the time)

I have never been pregnant while taking a cruise.... but several years ago I used the sea bands when I was pregnant (we were taking a "cruise" on our 40 foot boat).... I never ever get sea sick and we started our 10 day vacation on our boat with rough seas... well, I did get sea sick and started wearing the sea bands and they really helped me.... I pretty much kept the bands on whenever we were on the water and never felt sea sick after that.... I think they really do work! Also, you can try to drink ginger-ale if you feel a little sick.... That also helped!

Anyway, we are also on the April 27 Magic!!!! We are all counting the hours......

Ok, what are sea bands, and where can I get them? Are they safe to use on little kids? Do little kids get seasickness?

Ginger and ginger ale were my lifesavers! Should be safe in your condition also!

I am a pharmacist & I would not reccomend taking anything while you are PG, unless risk outways the benefit, but the seabands really do work and are very safe.I always get car sick so I thought I would really get sick on a cruise, but so far 2 cruises and I have never been sick. (knocking on wood right now because #3 is next month) If you are not PG, meclizine which is the same as Bonine and non drowsy Dramamine is very effective.

Our friend who cruises often swears by them! He always got sea sick before & didn't like the dramamine or bonine, as it made him drowsy. If you have a midship room, you won't feel much. The gentle rocking makes sleeping so nice. Go prepared, but you may not need them. Gingerale is really good too!

You wear one seaband on each wrist. They sell them in pairs. The white button goes on the inside. Place it just above your pulsepoint on each inside wrist & you're set. My friend doesn't even take them off when the ship is in Port! You may want to...

Good Luck & have fun!

Just don't take them all at the same time, LOL :D

Seriously, I'm hoping for the best for you. The wrist bands and ginger might just work very well for you!

Maybe this is a stupid question. But, I haven't seen the sea bands, where do you get them?
Can you put them on once you feel sea sick or is it like the patch you have to put it on before getting on the ship?
I would like to try and go with out anything, but get a little nervous. I have been on 3 other cruises with DCL and have had only a little nausea that would go away after a few hours (not having to use anything), but since the Western is going to different areas of the carribean that I am not used to, I am worried. (We are going on May 11th).

They contain no drugs, they work like accupressure...on your pulse points so they would be safe for children..(for whoever asked if little ones get motion sickness) I did as a kid, but as far as very little ones like 2 year old, I asked her peditrition and he said, did you ever see those kids spin! He said she wouldnt get sick.

The SeaBands are sold at all drug stores. (The are also reccommended for morning sickness for PG women, that's how I first heard of them)

I did leave a message and an RN called me back weeks ago and told me that Dramamine was safe for PG...but I am seeing my doctor today and I'll ask again. I just hope the drug - free sea bands will work for me (and although I only took a quick glance at the package I do think you put them on a few hours prior to travel.) I plan to put them on before I get on the plane...turbulance also sets me off..
THE ONLY DRAWBACK: Strange Tan Lines! LOL!

I got my sea bands at Walmart. I would think CVS or other pharmacy/drug stores would carry them. I have also seen them in airport shops. I find that I have to put them on before I fly or cruise, but they seem to work wonders. Although I did not get relief from morning sickness when I've been pregnant, they have worked for the motion sickness that seems to get aggravated when I'm pregnant.

My dr's said no to Bonine and Dramamine when I was pregnant. When I was pregnant with DD, the OB said I could take phenergan, but one of its side affects is drowsiness. As if pregnancy doesn't tire you out enough LOL! Good luck on your cruise and I hope you don't need anything!

Are there different name brands? If so, which do you all recommend? How big are the bands? Sorry for the hundreds of questions. This is new to me.

I upchucked on our first cruise that everyone swore wasn't moving at all.
I wore "the patch" on the second and didnt puke until we hit the 13 foot swells, but it did delay the inevitable that day. Felt lightheaded all the time and even for a few days after getting off the boat.
The Sea bands worked immediately and was safe (no drugs) with so side affects. here is a link to CVS about sea bands.

My first cruise (my honeymoon) I used the patch which made me feel worse. I took it off the 2nd day and was fine. The 2nd & 3rd cruise there was a day (on each) that I felt nauseated.

Thank you for the link, I will check it out. :D

Funny, I haven't heard one good thing about the patch...especially what happens to people POST cruising, then they really feel sick!
I'm hoping the sea bands do the trick because they are drug free so there will be no side effects, sleeepiness etc...
However I spoke with my OBGYN and she says at this stage in my PG 17 weeks (I'll be 18-19 on the cruise) she said using Dramamine or Bronine is fine...but I guess it is not earlier on in PG.

ps...here is the Sea Band link:

Has anyone tried the ginger root supplements? I hear if you take them once a day, it can help reduce the effects of sea-sickness. I think i might try them, just to be on the safe side.

We took ginger root. DH & I started taking them about a week before the cruise. We had DD7 drink ginger ale and eat ginger snaps prior too and on the cruise. I was nauseated one day in the middle of the cruise but the rest of the time was OK. DH and DD had no problems at all. We decided on the ginger because I didn't want to be 'out of it' from medication and miss half of the trip!

Ginger is my new best friend. I took 2 ginger capsules before breakfast, lunch, dinner and at bedtime. We had a really rough weather cruise April 6-13 and I did not get sick. (I did last year on the Wonder). I bought the ginger at GNC, 90 capsules $7.99.

Never underestimate what some fresh air can do also!

I suffer from motion sickness even in the back of a car, not to mention terrible morning sickness. Never got sick on the boat though! Several walks around the deck throughout the day seemed to really help...

Good luck!
