I've been lurking and thinking about joining in and starting to lose a few pounds. I've been very impressed by everyone here! You've inspired me to take the plunge. Today I've stopped thinking and started doing!

I've decided to try a low Glycemic diet (low cab.). I know some of you will hate me, but I've never dieted before. Never had to. Always have been one of those people who could eat what they wanted and not gain a pound.

Middle-age has caught up with me! I now want/need to lose about 15-20 pounds. This sounds silly.........now that I've decided I won't eat certain foods, I want them! Some of the foods I've never caring about!!!!! I like potatos but have never cared if we had them for dinner. Now I'm thinking how can I go without them? Has anyone else gone through this? Does this pass?

Yes, I went through the "ugh, I really want that potato/corn/bread!!" and I'm not on a low carb I just wanted to change my diet up. I started seeking out foods that I hadn't tried for awhile and I began craving them!! One of my favorites is raw spinach salad, strawberries, almonds and a raspberry vinegarette- I also try to put red bell peppers into my salads- just try several things and if you stick to it for 3 weeks you've made a habit!!

I still let myself indulge in a loaded baked potato about once every 2-3 weeks- and funny now that I do- I'd almost prefer the spinach salad- but everything in moderation is a healthy way to live. Good luck and you'll find loads of support here!!!

I have had the same feelings. I had never had to diet in my life until I went over the 40 hill. I want to lose 20 lbs (but 25 would be nicer) and I have lost just over 12 on Weight Watchers.

I am struggling right now and wanting all the things that I never cared for before? But writing down everything I eat and doing the 10 minute rule (drink a glass of water and see if I still want it in 10 minutes), helps.

I know what just you mean about only wanting the things you know you shouldn't have. That's why I try to let myself have pretty much anything I want in moderation , of course! However, I know that might not work with your low carb diet. You might just need to keep those tempting things out of the house for a while. I'm sure once you start seeing some results, it'll become much easier to avoid those foods you can't have.

I made it through dinner. The kids had potatoes and I left them alone. Now if I can get through them having strawberry cheesecake for dessert..........

Cathy, I did the same, hit 40 and it all went down hill. LOL!

<b>Mattsmom</b> I'm so glad to see you here! Why in the world would anyone here hate you? I just wish that I had been as smart and determined as you are when I still had only 20 pounds to lose. If I had, I wouldn't have gained 100 pounds instead.

No one hates you here. We don't hate anyone. We are just one big clique, every single one of us is a member. We support, motivate, inspire and entertain each other. We help each other through the rough days and celebrate each other's successes on the road to goal.

WISH is the best support group anyone could ever want, truly it is. Every eating plan is represented and we all come together everyday and cheer each other on.

Don't worry about how much you have to lose, celebrate the fact that you are taking control and enjoy the help of this loving support group. You're going to do just great, we're going to help you :)
