Ok I Need To feel Better

I haven't ready everyones reply so I hope I am not repeating what everyone ease said. I think part of it is the planning. Part of the fun of going to WDW is the planning and the excitement that it brings. You really don't have to plan for a DL trip, you just go. Also WDW is like city (or world) all on it's own. It has a different feeling. DL in the middle of the city and it feels like it. I have been to both and while DL is the first one (and the closest), I love both of them for what they are. DL does have a little more of my heart because I am a big Walt fan and that was his park. Enjoy DL and your vacation for what it is and try not to compare the 2. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Have a wonderful vacation!

I really love both parks....but Disneyland is hands down my favorite single park. Nothing compares to it for me-the sense of being where it all begin, the ease of navigation, the history. The weather in So Cal is so much nicer than Florida weather, which is a huge perk for me. And it's soooo much easier handling park days with small children in Disneyland, as the logistics of getting park to park, and from the park to the hotel for naps, are so much easier.

Man, I hate being tied to specific ADRS I made 6 months ago (and I really, really love food). Maybe this would be easier if I didn't have kids, but I really like being able to eat when we're hungry, and head to the park we're in the mood for, without thinking that we have to be at a certain place at a certain time for food. I'm a big park planner, and a total commando touring geek, but this does not work well for our family.

Completely agree with PP. I hated those stupid buses at WDW, traveling with other sweaty people in that God-awful humidity. I'm glad there are WDW "snobs", makes DLR less crowded for those of us that appreciate it.

I visited both for the first time last year. (OK I visited WDW in 1972 and barely remember it). I liked Disneyland more and agree with many of the PPs. Here our a couple of additional thoughts: If you stay at a DLR hotel, you either get to walk through DTD or take a monorail right into the park. That is immersive in a way that WDW can't match. And don't judge a castle by it's size. Sleeping Beauty's is much smaller but I think it is more lovely and the inside is much more interesting than Cinderella's. We also thought the counter food was better.

Thank you all for the wonderful replies. We are planning on staying at The Desert Palms Inn since there will be 6 of us. If anyone has a better suggestion for 6 I'm always interested. I am doing my research and actually the food looks even more creative than WDW...yes I love the food. We are planning on US since I love movies and growing up in So Cal it was just a part of life. That being said, I haven't been to US in 10 years. If it has taken a turn for the worse just let me know. I'm having fun planning (yes I'm a planner) and I think it will be great.
I would consider the Desert Inn and Suites http://www.anaheimdesertinn.com/ located right across the street on harbor VS the Desert Palms Hotel & Suites on Katella. The walk is about twice as far. Here is a look at the difference. http://www.accommodationsneardisney.com/Disneyland/default.asp

We haven't stayed at the Desert Inn in a few years - but when we did, it was getting better guest feedback than Desert Palm, but now they seem to be getting about the same.

Wow I just looked at this hotel online and it looks like it has more of what we need. 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms and its less expensive.

I completely understand how you feel. I feel that way about every vacation I have (Disney or not) and I have nightmares! I think it is my way of thinking the worst then the reality will be better than the nightmare so it's all good  And I just went to DL last week after not being there for decades but vacationing in WDW instead. So I know what you are feeling.

I say go, enjoy what you can, and if you don't enjoy it as much to go again, you don't have to. If you fall in love with it, you found something else you can do with the family.

But no matter what ANYONE else says - you will only know how YOU feel. You might love it, hate it, like it, or something totally different. But just because one person who has had a similar experience feels one way doesn't mean that is how you will feel. So no one can absolutely calm your fears. You are just going to have to jump in and find out for yourself - if you dare!

I do agree with others recommendations to look into DLR a bit to get an idea of the attractions, dining, etc. so you are prepared! Good luck and enjoy as much as you can!!
