You all know me... I love the waves. DW recently said she thinks maybe we made a mistake deciding to go to HHI this summer instead of VB. She read some of my recent posts and feels like I will not like HHI because the waves are of minimal in size.

I am determined to make this vacation very special for her... she loves wildlife, as do I, and I am sure we can find very cool things to do.

Don't mis-understand me, but I need to know (a head of time) whether I should bring my body-board or leave it home. I just want to know... are there waves at HHI?

We went to Sanibel years ago.... obviously no waves there... and I loved the silk sand and the wildlife for hundreds of yards of shallow beach.. I will love either case.

I just need an honest assessment, because, I just don't remember what HHI is like.

Thanks.

Check the tidal schedule when you are there. Waves in HH are best one hour before and one hour after high tide and you will certainly enjoy your boogie board then. If you get lucky there will be a good off-shore storm building....that can lead to some great waves. The downside is you may get some rain to go with them....

The rest of the island, and all there is to do, makes it the best vacation spot around IMO. Have fun! :)

:) They waves are minimal. However the change between high and low tide is huge. Something about the location and current. It looks like the ocean just goes away at low tide.

We have a vacation house at HHI. While we are there we see a lot of wildlife. Deers, raccoons, gators and all kinds of sealife. :thumbsup2

We are big fans of HHI and HHI Dis. ;)

Lots of very cool wildlife, but no real waves. I think you'll end up enjoying all HHI has to offer. You'll love the bike riding.

Will you have a car? There are some spots you could
day-trip to for a morning or afternoon of body surfing.

Other than Vero, Edisto is the only beach where the waves have really knocked me down. It's a neat little place to visit - an extremely small island. And the Sea Cow restaurant has the best pancakes I've ever eaten. There's a state park, so you could have the use of showers and facilities to change.

Thanks. I think I'll leave the board home :sad1: I don't want Mary Beth to see it just sitting in the corner (guilt trip thing). She's already afraid I'm not going to have a good time, but I definitely will. Life is what you make it. Moooo... I think I might check out that Sea Cow though.

I had really good waves last time I went in Sept. people where sufing on them.

:stir: you're not pulling my leg are you?

It's not like September is hurricane season or anything....:rotfl:

But honestly, you should bring your board. You really never know with an ocean.

We had great waves on trips in late August 2004 and 2005.

We've been to Hilton Head when there were great waves, other times not so many. But I have to say our experience at Vero has been about the same. I say bring the boards--at some point during your stay I'll bet you'll be glad you have them!

And if the waves are minor, people ride bikes up and down the beach, there are also bike paths all over the island, dining, kayaking, not to mention that its famous for tennis and golf. There are restaurants, shopping, wildlife, or nearby history. At the resort there's a pool at the beach house, one with a fun slide back at the main resort, ping pong both places, shuffleboard (my kids LOVE that--they don't see it a lot of places!) and a whole pack of resort-organized activities.

Hopefully nobody will be sitting in the corner!
