I enjoy reading *message boards* so much I frequent other travel message boards.

Over at another board ... in a Airline specific forum I have seldom seen a *post* question
answered with ==> go read the Airline.com info.

Here on the DISboards *Transportation* specific forum it is hardly a day that it does not occur.

I myself tend to hear a *tone* when a question is not attempted to be answered
but *a go look for yourself* comment is made.

The idea that people will give and receive knowledge from each other should be a basic concept of a travel message board.

Sure there are times when only the travel.com will be able to furnish the info ... but not every time and everyday.

IMHO ... YMMV

As they say, if you give a man a fish, they eat for a day. If you teach a man to fish, they eat for a lifetime.

It is always a good to point people to where they can get the information so they can successfully inform themselves. I actually appreciate when someone points me to where I can find the answer to my question. Many times, I prefer it since then I can find answers to other questions I may have later on.

I agree. I often refer people to taxifarefinder.com when they have questions about taxi fares. It's a site that a lot of people don't know exists, but it's absolutely invaluable.

And it's a gazillion times better than me giving you some vaguely remembered information about my trip 2 years ago.

The "go see the airline's website" thing that I know that happened most recently involved *answering the question first* and THEN mentioning the airline's website. Note: the answer was given. Short answer, yes. That's all that was required. And THEN mentioning the airline's website.

Now maybe there was another post that I didn't see. But that's the most recent I saw.

Very few people use lmgtfu.com (let me google that for you dot com) around here because of the snark factor, but the website was created to show a person "I got this answer for you by doing this, and this is how you can do it in the future". Because people can get a tone when answering a question that would have been answered *faster* if they just tossed the question into google or the site-in-question's search box.

So there might be a tone read into "yes, and hey, that airline has a good website", but there can also be a tone that maybe SHOULD be read into "I looked it up for you in this way on this site, and here's the info and the info on how to do it for yourself in the future if I'm not around."

:)

[I remember working CS at amazon, and I had great feedback most of the time, but sometimes people just did not want to know how to do things on their own...I'd respond with "here's the answer that I spent half an hour researching (though the "half an hour researching" part wasn't said) and I hope that's useful and here's the exact item you were looking for and how to put it into your shopping cart and buy it, and oh hey this info is available by going here dot come OR by looking up x, y, then z in that order" and *some* people just hated that! Most people liked it. Some people though....:rolleyes2]

Ok...here's how I see it. Yes, each 'official'airline website has (at least it should)a place where you should be able to get the info you need..it may not be easy to find though. Yes, SW's site provides easy to access info about EBCI as well as how to board. Other sites are not so easy to navigate.
And yes, everyone can go to these sites to get the info they need. And yes, perhaps they should. BUT...sometimes it's nice to come here and get the Readers Digest version...simple and easily understood.

BUT....there are many times that posters, yes, even here, give out less than correct info. This is one reason for the 'there's no pixiedust on the Transportation Board' mentality. Getting to and from WDW as well as around the area is too important to have misinformation given. So with that in mind, it's always a good idea to give a poster the info they need to go to the 'official' site for the info they need. Then, that poster can come back here and get elaboration...if needed. Or even clarification.

I don't think anyone tries to be snarky or such....but I suppose it may come off that way. I doubt that is anyone's intention. We just want everyone to get the most correct info they can get...and that is usually found on an airline's official site. Granted, that info may either be 1. hard to find or 2. hard to figure out. So, sure..come back here and ask for clarification.

If it is a simple airline/airport question, especially if the poster indicates that they seldom fly then I will answer the question and also send them to the airline website and the tsa website. Rules change all the time and my experience last month flying xx airlines may not be the case when someone flies them next month.

This way they can answer the rest of their questions, keep updated and then come back for experiences and advice.

If it is more general Disney related transportation I will usually just post my experience or answers as best I can. Although if I can point someone to a factual resource rather than a "discussion board" I will do that as well.
