Ok, I gotta ask about RPH

This hotel looks so nice online and the theming really appeals to me, but when I read other posters' thoughts about it, they say "It's nice" or "we'd stay there again," without sounding overly excited if you know what I mean.

Is it like Disney's Poly? Are the rooms just too small for people to be overjoyed about it? Is PBH just soooo much nicer? I want the real scoop! I'm thinking about a Universal trip for this fall and *wanted* to stay at RPH until I read the lukewarm reviews.

I'm surprised the reviews you read about RPR were lukewarm. After staying at Portofino and Hard Rock 2 weeks ago we had a first stay at RPR and LOVED it! So here is one for you that really feels its a gorgeous property with outstanding employees. I have also stayed at Disney's Poly and would not compare the 2 at all. Totally different feel to me. The rooms at poly are larger but RPR is brand spanking new and that made a nice difference for us.

We did not stay in a standard room so we had more space. The overall feel is very relaxing and laid back with a deluxe feel. The restaurants are all wonderful and we cant wait for a return trip! Take a jump over to the Trip Report board and read a few reviews. I must have read all the positve reviews! :) The pool area is great also! I hope you go and love it! Let us know what you think.

I've stayed at Portofino and Royal Pacific. Regular rooms are a lot smaller at RP than at Portofino. More restaurants at Portofino - all good or better. Mama Dellas is awesome and not that pricey. Three pools at Portofino - one to fit anyone's tastes. More luxurious at Portofino. The beds are incredible - you don't want to get out of bed in the morning. Without kids - Portofino for me. With kids, at the RP. We will be staying at the HR this summer with the kids - in a Deluxe room. RP does not have deluxe rooms, so with kids, gets tight for us (2A/2C 7&11)). We will get to see how the HR rates. The RP is nice (said excitedly). For quick trips up ( I live in Ft Lauderdale), I take the kids (sans wife) and we stay at RP (cant beat the price). I have also stayed there with just the wife and it was quite romantic. But, we prefer the Portofino. Good luck with your choice. If you have any specific questions, I can try to answer...

Having said all that - I liked the RP better than Poly.

Here's some excitement for ya...lol. we stayed here last summer and are returning again on Sunday July 6th. With all the beautiful hotels/suites/condo's/townhomes to choose from and considering that I need two rooms for a large family, we still all picked this hotel for this year. We loved it! Now I did cancel two of my nights here for the Gaylord Palms when I was able to get a fantastic rate there, but that hotel is in a class by itself!

I've never been to the Poly but from going by on the monorail the RP looks nicer to me. We also have visited the PB and HR and again, I like the theming of the RP best. Obviously the convenience and FOTL can't be beat but you can get that at any of the Universal Hotels. The rooms are a bit small though, but we were comfortable.
