ok I get the purell but what's the deal with lysol?

If the ship is being sanitized why do I need to bring lysol? I would assume my cabin will be spotless. I am bringing purell to take care of outside my cabin, but why lysol?

Dunno, I'm not bringing any Lysol! I suppose some folks will use it for an extra cleansing of their cabins but I'm fine with the cleaning it's getting now too.

Lysol spray and wipes
When you travel w/babies you can never be too safe. Our family has 2 babies in diapers that may call for a lil spray action here and there. Our daughters also use them when the babies eat out, hi chairs, etc. True, the Magic has been sanitized, but the Norwalk virus is still rampant....all it takes is one infected person to board.

We had Lysol on our July cruise. The smell in my cabin was fine, but my parents cabin seemed to have a musty smell. The lysol helped. Plus it helped when someone was stinky in the bathroom!

For us, the Lysol is because we are traveling with a nine-month old. We want to be able to disinfect any place where we might have to change a diaper (even though we have our own changing pad with us).

Plus the young'uns aim isn't always that good, so it doesn't hurt to clean between trips to the vacuum toilet.

We have brought Lysol the last few years. It seems like someone would always get sick in out party. I saw a posting on another board about spraying the air vents in the cabin. We have had no illnesses since. Sure can't hurt.. We are also going to add purell and the anti-bacterial wipes to our list for our cruise next month.

And don't forget a plastic baggie for the remote control! That will likely have been sprayed before you arrive, but that is always a source of funk. Put in it a ziplock baggie and you'll never touch anyone's germs but your own. In any case a good tip for neurotic germophobes like myself. Most hotel rooms have not just been sanitized for 7 straight days!.

I brought the lysol for 2 reasons -- 1) odors and 2) germs after and/or between cleanings. I sprayed the remote control, knobs on drawers, door handles, etc... every day. I did not want to assume that the stateroom hostess was being that particular every single time she cleaned. I also spray the AC vents and the pillows (more to get rid of smells than germs).

In fact, I am sitting in a hotel right now, and I wish I had my trusty lysol!

The Lysol spray will sanitize the surface you spray it on within about 20 to 30 seconds. It's an extra measue of insurance against germs.

Ok, this is going to be a STUPID question I am sure but I have to ask. Do you spray Lysol and then wipe or just spray and leave it?

I loved the baggie suggestion for the remote control. How inventive!

I must admit that I am typically not so diligent against germs, other than not touching anything in a public restroom after washing my hands.

I would say it depends what you are using it on/for. Directions say: spray 2-3 seconds and allow to dry for better protection.

but we are firm believers in Lysol, especially when traveling.

Lysol 2 claims to kill bacterias - Staph, Strep, Salmonnella, E-coli, Althlete's foot fungus. Viruses- Rhinovirus (leading cause of common cold), RSV Respiratory Syncytial Virus ( leading cause of lower resp. infection in children), Poliovirus Type1, Adenovirus Type 2, Herpes Simplex Viruses 1 & 2, and A2 Influneza (Japan).

I registered with them and was able to downlaod and print a $0.75 coupon for any Lysol Spray Disinfectant. It means you give them a little personal info, you download and install their software tool, and tyhen you can get the coupon. I never use the 'always trust this company' button when it asks, I just grant them permission for this one time.

Not sure what the differences are, but they have a product called 'Lysol Disinfectant Spray with Fabric Refresher' as well as the regualr disinfectant spray. Their website says:
LYSOL® Disinfectant Spray Plus Fabric Refresher kills odor-causing bacteria and eliminates odors on soft surfaces, such as carpets, curtains and upholstery caused by smoke and pets.

In addition, it kills 99.9% of harmful viruses and bacteria on hard nonporous surfaces that you come into contact with everyday such as doorknobs, toilet areas, telephones and garbage pails – similar to the LYSOL® Disinfectant Spray you’ve used for years.

I've been spraying most everything with the regular one, oh well.

I would call the airlines to be sure. We are flying SW and their site says aerosol cans are allowed. However, I still think I will pack mine and just carry on the Lysol wipes.

SW policy:
**Personal care, medical needs, sporting equipment items containing hazardous materials (e.g., flammable perfume, aerosols) totaling no more than 70 ounces may be carried onboard. Contents of each container may not exceed 16 fluid ounces. Radioactive implants or radio pharmaceuticals that have been ingested or injected are acceptable. A small medical mercury thermometer in a protective case may also be carried onboard.

Cargo areas on planes are also pressurized - the only reason the can might "explode" is if it was traumatized by a baggage handler.

We brought everything EXCEPT Lysol and when my friend got sick, we requested some disinfectant spray from housekeeping and they do not have any. So bring yours! I recommend the powder scented one

I had my can of Lysol in the outside pocket of my checked luggage on my trip last week. When the luggage was delivered - no can of Lysol. I doubt someone stole it so I suspect when my luggage was put thru the new Xray machines, someone at the airline saw the can and took it.

Delta said a can of Lysol is considered a dangerous item and cannot be carried on or checked in baggage. Go figure.

At least now I know. I'm taking DCL transportation from MCO to the Port so I won't be able to stop off on the way to pick up a can. Anybody want to pick one up for me?
