I'm gettin' old.

Not REALLY old, but hey-- I'm 41. And my DSes are 7 & 5. I used to love every kind of ride... period. But now I can't ride Mission Space, Some roller coasters(primeval whirl, ie)-- even the friggin teacups make me motion sick! I went to DisneyQuest and did two virtual attractions-- magic carpets and rafting and I had to quit! Please... cool cool air, cool air... concentrate, concentrate, cool air... I feel like Jeff Goldblum on Independence Day! :faint: :scared:  :scared: :faint: :faint:

I'm not talkin about heavin on anybody's shoes, but a get nauseous, get a headache and feel "out of sorts" for hours after going on them.

Would Dramamine help me? I want to go on all these rides because I do love them, but I'm paying a price these days.... I'm 7 weeks from free dining-- any tips?

I'm 23 and the teacups, primeval whirl, and the magic carpet virtual ride at Disney Quest all made me sick too, so don't feel bad! I don't have any experience with motion sickness medications so i can't help you there, but wanted to let you know that you're not alone!

I'm with ya. I tried all that motion sick stuff, didn't work for me, but go ahead and try it! I've given up. No twirly whirly rides for me any more.

I get that way just walking down the street sometimes. Something about an ear problem where my ears don't drain properly. I have to dose up on decongestant and sinus spray all the time (per doc's order), even if I don't feel stuffy, just to keep my head clear! Has the added bonus of allowing me to ride all my favorite rides, too. If I forget one morning, I am toast...so to speak!

I have also heard that ginger helps people with their motion sickness (fresh ginger, ginger altoid type mints, ginger tablets...). I haven't tried it for motion sickness, but I do know that ginger ale is the only thing that helped me keep stuff down while I was pregnant with DS!

I've noticed this in recent years, too (I'm only 32). I've NEVER had motion sickness issues, except for when I tried to read in a moving car. First it was Space Mountain...then Mission: Space. Last week, just flying on an airplane messed up my head. I believe it has something to do with my hearing loss.

I think it may be time to start thinking about meds! :sad1:

I know anything that spins makes me  but I skip the Dramamine because it knocks me out :upsidedow
I've even considered using those patches people use on cruises but not sure that would help. I've always loved all the rides but I've noticed with age I get a little more sick feeling :guilty:
I've heard mints help with the nauseous feeling but have never tried it myself.

I was always fine and a total ride warrior until I was 25 and went to a travleing carnival and the operator left us in the "Hammer" for 15 minutes (until the first person puked). I blacked out later that evening for about 3 hours. My parents thought I was on drugs or drunk because they couldn't get me to wake up.

I steadily gotten worse on whirly rides -- anything with a constant G force-- aka Tea Cups, Gravitron, Tilt a Whirl, etc.

BTW-- I have no problems in cars (front seat), airplanes (well-- one time with severe turbulence it got a little sketchy, but hey -- people were HEAVIN!). It just those dang twirly rides that get me! :scared: :scared: :faint: :faint: :faint:

But now I can't ride Mission Space . . .

Have you tried the new version of Mission: Space? The original version and I did not fare well. However, I am eager to try the new version that does not have the centrifugal force that caused so many people to feel ill. Disney now has given folks a choice of riding the original or the new version. Really depends on which line you choose to stand in.

Rumor has it, it is now like the Star Wars ride, some jostling around, but again, much tamer since the centrifuge part is no longer there.

I can totally relate to your "pain". I won't even attempt Goofy's Barnstormer. So you can imagine my not getting on anything crazier than that. :teeth:

My brother is 35 and he has the same issues you speak of, but he said he takes dramamine and it works for him. So I'd say definitely give it a try and see if you have similar luck. :thumbsup2

Personally Im 27 and I used to be a warrior also, but now I have to go a little slower than usual or else I get nauseus ( sp? ).

Another former ride warrior who can't spin. I can do coasters all day long, but don't make me spin too much.
I do take draminine non-drowsy formula / bonine on a day when I know I'm going to push the limit of what I can handle. I use it to fly too. If I really want to back it up, I take a prescription compazine too. That's if I know I'm doing massive coasters / teacups etc...

Even with drugs, I skipped the original Mission:Space. I wasn't taking any chances on that from what I'd seen & heard.

If you get motion sickness, but still want to try riding, non-drowzy draminine/bonine is a great tool for me.

My RnR, ToT and orange MS days are behind me I think, I do not need the punishment at my age.

My kids and I all are very prone to motion sickness. We bought some wrist bands (look like watches) that send electronic pulses down your wrist and hands and they work like a charm. No drugs and we are all free from motion sickness. They are called Reliefbands and we got them on Sharperimage.com. They were on sale for $50 and have replaceable batteries. For us, sooooo worth it!!! Like a miracle for those of us who can't ride around the block w/out getting sick!

Me too! i used to love all the crazy rollercoasters and spinning rides. Now at 33 I have to sit out on a few rides. Defiantely can't ride teacups, Mission space, Dinosaur, Star Tours and anything else that spins. It seemed to get worse after each kid too. :goodvibes

My tolerance for things that go in circles started diminishing when I was still in my teens. Now in my 30's, I can barely handle a carousel. :( Strangely, most roller coasters are fine - I love roller coasters, as long as they don't propel me backward - but flying was a little disconcerting last time. I tried supposedly non-drowsy Bonine on our first trip in 2002, but have never been so dopey in my life! I couldn't stand up - was draped over the rail in every line, couldn't even hold my head up! I've seen ads for the relief bands but thought they were pricey, so I'm trying the more primitive Sea Bands that I picked up for a few bucks at the WalMart prescription counter. You don't need a prescription, but they are kept in the back so you do need to ask for them. They are a stretchy wrist band with a sort of button that you place over an acupressure point on your wrists. They've been around for years and years, so I hope they work for me on the flight and on EE! :)

Try Bonnine it won't make you sleepy..I can do all the rides except original MS. Don't even want to try primeval whirl. But RNR and the teacups don't bother me a bit.
My husband used to get dizzy on the rides usually the day after we flew down, it was the airplane travel that did it and his ears would never pop so his equalibrium was off. He started using earplanes and has not had a problem with his ears or the dizzyness since.

I'm 44 and I don't do anything that spins! I can do coasters, I did that big nasty green thing at Universal and I do the "Mountain Range" in MK every time I go. No problems. However, having said that, I have allergies and take Zrtec, Singulair and another decongestant called Deconsal every day. According to my MD, those medications are probably helping me because they eliminate congestion in the sinuses and inner ear that often contribute to that nasty feeling on rides. I do take a Dramamine on the plane though, in case we get stuck circling. That's the only time it bothers me.

I'm 29 and have four kids and up until I had my 3rd baby at age 27, I could ride anything. Suddenly, I get dizzy and get a headache when I ride anything that spins too much. I can still ride the coasters and am thankful for that but I wonder when I won't be able to ride those either! LOL! I used to laugh at dh for not being able to ride things that spin. I guess karma worked against me in this case! lol

I too, sometimes, am adversely affected by spinning rides. MS, occasionally, has made me feel a little loopy. I'm planning on giving the less active one at try this next trip. I don't like, or ride, the carnival rides that go around and around ever since I got sick on a "Himalayan" ride at Belmonte Shores in SD and the ride operator kept it going until someone held up their hand. I think it ran for 10 mins. I was horrible sick later that night! Never again!

Ever since my mom, 66 went through chemo, she hasn't tolerated coaster too well. She says the make her nauseous. I'm going to tell her to try Bonine this time on RnR. ToT doesn't bother her and is her fav. ride. :goodvibes

Another member of the "former warrior" club. :wave2: ( 40 something :teeth: ) I tried pills and the patch, but nothing seems to help.

About the only thrill type ride I can still do is TOT & BTMR . RnRc, makes me sick, Space Mountain just hurts, and coasters that loop almost make me black out. I won't even try the bigger coasters like Hulk or Dueling Dragons.

Surprisingly I did try Mission Mars and I did better than expected, at least better than I did on Star Tours. Something about the rides where you watch a movie really get to me. :sad2:
