So I am looking for some help... I only need to lose 30-40 pounds (wow I can't believe that I am that overweight). My DBF has to lose weight also so I have come here for support and guidance. I am determined to do it because I want my figure back and I want to prevent any health problems. So what are the different ways to do it? We both work full time and I go to school full time, but we will make time to do this. So tell me what has worked for you. Thanks

Hi!

I've got about the same amount to lose! I've already lost about 31, (that took care of the baby weight and then a few extra), now I am on to losing what I needed to before baby.!

I've been exercising 4-5 times a week since February and diet wise have really just been watching portions.

Where are you in FL? I am in Palm Harbor in Pinellas county!

Forgot to add that what has helped me stayed on track for exercise is signing up for races (keeps me motivated and is a concrete goal). I've gotten into running a bit, but initially I walked alot.

:welcome: to WISH!!!

i echo that signing up for organizeds 'races' keeps me motivated on the exercise front. i put races in quotes b/c my goal is to finish not accomplish a specific time. anyhow -- finding a small group or even a buddy to be accountable with helps tremendously! i have a small group of disfriends who have emailed one another. also, joining one of the monthly 'challenges' on the board is very motivating! you can feel free to jump in on any challenge or discussions thread at any time.....:welcome: again

I agree with getting with one of the exercise threads on the board to keep you motovated. I'm not a big exerciser but have joined one of the threads and committed to a set number of walking steps per month. I've found it very motovating. I also find journaling your food is a big help. It makes you accountable for everything you are actually eaating. It makes no difference what I allow myself to eat, I just have to WRITE it down so that I own it.

If you're just starting out I'd get a food scale and some measuring units (cups, spoons, etc). You need to know exactly what a portion size is.

Good luck.

It is amazing to me to see how everyone uses the word DIET... we should look at it as NUTRITION.... this is the rest of our lives not just until we lose the weight!!!!

A TRUE LIFESTYLE CHANGE...it should involve good healthy foods... and exercise...

I lost 95 pounds... and I am still on the lifestyle change that got me there I didn't quit when I reached my goal...on the contrary I work harder to maintain it...

Many of us need motivation outside of home... I found that at Curves... a 30 minute strength and aerobic program 3 times a week is 100% benefit... amazing... fast fun and effective... It has changed my life... Walking and running is great I do that regularly too... I also do Zumba.... wonderful invigorating... but I continually watch what I eat by journaling my food... being accountable and responsible...

Well said!

I definitely agree to not use that "D" word.

You could figure on a way to offer yourself a pledge to do something for you every day. Make the challenge something you KNOW you can do so that you are finding success and voila, you will become successful.

I too just got serious about losing 40 pounds. I decided to join jazzercise after work 4 days a week.

It is only 1 hour of my day. I could make a lot of excuses about not having time after working all day and trying to rush home to my family. But the truth is I usually just rushed home to sit on the couch and watch TV.

Jazzercise is $28 a month so now I have to workout enough to justify spending the money. Plus I told my co workers I was working out every day so they will know if I leave the office in non workout clothes. Just that pressure will ensure my sticking with it.

My goall is to look great in the Mickey Mouse tankini I saw this year while on vacation.
