OK, I am a pain today. AP question.

Hi, I just bought myself an AP and plan to activate it this coming Spring/Summer. Will they ask for my ID at the gate when using my AP, or how do they know the AP belongs to me?

No, I am not trying to cheat any system, I just want to know what I need to plan on carrying with me. I lose my ID often, and no I am not blonde, and would rather leave it in the room safe. Thank you very much for your help.

There is a finger scanner that they use so that they know that it is you. However, you should still bring ID with you because the finger scanner does not always work, and if it doesn't they ask to see ID.

If I understand this right ( I am a fist time AP holder this December), you do not need an ID at the gate to let you in. They do some sort of finger scan (something to do with the lenght) when you activate your AP and they use a finger scanner to determin who you are.

So long story short, you should not need your ID.

The first time you activate your annual pass at the turnstile, you will insert two of your fingers into the biometric scanner in the form of a 'V'. This is not a fingerprint, but a measurement of the physical shape of your fingers, that is then stored in the computer and associated with your pass. From then on, every time you insert your pass, you have to place the same two fingers in the scanner, in order to verify that you are indeed the person attached to the pass. That being said, if it doesn't work, which is oft to happen, you must provide some sort of photo ID to the turnstile CM, who will allow you through. You of course have to show your ID in order to purchase the pass initially, or if you need to get it replaced during the year.

You always have to have ID and it has to be a photo ID so they will be able to make positive ID that you are ticket owner...also sometimes the finger scanners don't work, I have had to show my Photo ID at lest once everytrip.


Short story long... unless you want to make a trip back to your Resort you better have photo ID with you.

We got our first APs last summer. We needed IDs to activate them, however we didnt go into the park once we activated them. We then went to the park the following day, and 1 or 2 parks a day for the rest of the week. I dont think DH eve needed his ID for those entries, but I did get asked for mine once.
I would bring it with you, just in case.

I wonder why Disney doesn't just take a picture and put it on your card? At Six Flags, they took our pictures and it was on our card and only took a few minutes.

Seems like that would be better than a 'finger scan'.

They used to do that, but, I guess they feel this system is better.
You can have twins, but you cannot have identical bio scans.

We had APs once and DW and I both had to show ID on occasion. Not a problem for the kids. Take your ID to be on the safe side and save time.

I think that you should start carrying your ID with you. If something should happen someone would need to be able to figure out who you are!

The picture thing takes LOTS longer then the finger scan so I am glad they don't do it!

When you turn in your voucher and first activate your AP at the Guest Relations window at whichever park you are visiting when you do so you will have to have a photo ID with you. From then on you won't have to show your ID as the biometric scanner is the means of identification. However, as other have pointed out it may not always work. In general, it is a good idea to bring a photo ID with you wherever you go. I just keep our ID's with the AP's just in case. We always rent a car and many times you need a photo ID to park at the resorts. Sometimes if we want a drink there might be a half-blind CM who thinks these 30 somethings need to be carded (or hey, maybe we do look that young - I wish). There are various reasons why it pays to keep ID on you.
