Eiko Kodano's series of books known as 'Kiki's Delivery Service' is set for a second animated feature adaptation, this time from none other than the Mouse House.

Acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki had previously turned the books to the screen in 1989, the first big hit for his company Studio Ghibli. Disney has tapped scribe Jeff Stockwell to re-adapt the story, apparently set for traditional animation.

The books and movies follow a 13-year-old apprentice witch Kiki, who takes a delivery job for the local bakery. Her unrefined powers, however, turn out to be more troublesome than helpful.
This is like re-making "the Wizard of Oz." Who thinks this could possibly turn out well?

Oooh, I want to play!

I actually heard it in the strictist confidence (which I will gladly violate for the betterment of society) that it is really going to be a blend.

50% of the movie will be done with shadow puppets on a white wall. Although the puppets will be traditionally hand drawn, but the wall will be CGI. This decision was made at the highest levels of the marketing department in order to bring in both audiences.

Another 25% of the movie will be mime. No real explanation needed here, now is there? Who doesn't love mimes?

The final 25% of the the film will be real live action. Shooting is already started on this part, although there is no script nor cast. The live action is just sweeping vistas and old Jacques Cousteau throw-away shots.

And, just to keep the ladies happy. I heard that Mr. Matt Damon will make a cameo in the picture. Most likely as one of the hands doing the shadow puppets, but I've heard that in his screen test the electricity in the air was enough to make several female staffers swoon. That Matt!

One executive I spoke to said that this was slated to be the bedrock of the 2006 releases as it is being rushed into production following a green light by none other than Mr. Eisner himself. Marketing already is working up an ad campaign to highlight how cool shadow puppets are. Mimes are being hired by the hundreds for the premiere. Mr. Matt Damon will personally perform selected shadow puppet scenes on Sleeping Beauty Castle during the premiere. I understand he has perfected "The Eagle", "The Duck", and a wickedly funny "Barking Dog".

Actually they did re-make Wizard of Oz with Michael Jackson it was called just OZ. And your right IT SUCKED

I believe that the remake was called "The Wiz" instead of Oz...Diana Ross was Dorthy. I really don't remember much else about it. There was also a movie that was called something like "Return to Oz." All I remember about that one was that it scared the crap out of me as a kid. :earseek:

Thats right it was called THE WIZ I guess I got that confused with the HBO show. But no matter what it was called it still stunk.

Have you guys seen the Japanese film? We own it and our kids love it. It isn't dated in any way. Like "Spirited Away" it could be released with an English track and do fine in US theaters.

FWIW, we own the English dubbed version that was released last year (?) by Disney, and it's wonderful. I really can't imagine anyone needing to re-do this film in traditional animation... Not that I think Live action is a particularly good choice either.
