I understand that if you are within 1 month of your birthday you can move up to the next age group. What about if you are about 2 months from the next age group? How strict are they?

This is regarding a friends child who will be 10 about 7 weeks after we sail who wants to be in the 10-12 group with my daughter rather than the 8-9 group.

I'm figuring it won't be a problem but I don't want to be surprised. Any opinions?

the oceaneer club staff let my 4-1/2 year old son go in the 5-7 group with my daughter and our friends son who are both 7-1/2. They told me it would be on a trial basis and if it didnt work they would have to move him back down. Well it went perfectly and he was able to stay in the 5-7 for the whole cruise.

I doubt they would give you a hard time about the 10-12 group.

The stated policy is that the child must be one month or less from the next birthday.

That said, the staff is generally pretty flexible and if they have room in the next age group they will probably let the child who is two months from turning 10 join the 10-12s. Just tell them to talk to the counselors once onbard. :)

Hopefully you'll get to move up BUT don't be disappointed if you can't! Our daughter was 6 weeks shy of her birthday, had a sister in the group and they would NOT let her move up. Depends on how crowded that age group is I guess. Like I said, maybe with that age group (and being Sept./school in session) it won't be a problem. Keep my fingers crossed for ya.
