OK folks...seriously

I met a couple from another board who took a doll around with them to all the parks (and maybe they took the doll around when they were at home, too). They seemed like perfectly normal people, but I did find it a bit odd because the doll was like their daughter. They always got a separate seat for her and treated her like she was a person. I never did get past my initial confusion over this doll, I have to admit.......

STOP TALKING ABOUT ME AND DH. I'm SITTING RIGHT HERE AND CAN HEAR...er..SEE EVERY WORD YOU SAY!!

;) ;) ;)

LOL! You dork. As I was typing that I was wondering if you would think it was you I was talking about....I knew you'd instantly know it wasn't when I mentioned these people were normal in every other way. :p That would definately exclude you and Droopy. :lmao:

(j/k!!! Actually, your pictures w/Dolly were among the funniest dang thing I've ever seen online! :lmao: )

A lot of people have a little token they carry around with them, an item that makes them smile or reminds them of something they love. That's all good. It's when that item takes the place of real relationships that it becomes harmful. Does it harm others? No, but it emotionally stunts the person with the abnormal attachment.

I'm not asking to be mean but.....

Do people (adults) really take dolls/stuffed animals to themeparks and ride rides with them and have them as a dining companion?

I've read a couple of people doing this and well....its odd to me. :confused3

Love ya lady. Wanna meet again? I know how you hate January though!! :lmao:
If you meet us in January I promise I'll let you play with Dolly. Deal?

(I KNOW YOU WANT TO!!)

We took quite a few pics with a stuffed Ariel last time we were at Disney. I plan to show the pictures to our daughter we are adopting and telling her that we were so wishing she was with us on that vacation. Oh, BTW, her name is going to be Ariel.

I see nothing wrong with it. I love stuffed animals and dolls. I have quite a few collectible Fayzah Spanos dolls and I also have more than my share of stuffed animals. I love the large realistic looking plushies like Melissa and Doug sell. I think people would be quite surprised at the normal everyday people who collect dolls and stuffed animals.

To each their own!

Can't rightly say. I'm too busy having fun to notice what others are doing.

I hope most are doing the same as me.

I don't think collecting stuffed animals or dolls is really all that out of the ordinary.

Carrying them around with you everywhere, though, is kind of weird.

Aaaack I froze my tushie that January but we sure did have a good time. Would love to see you and the Droopster (not to mention the Dollster) again. :)

Very Good Post :)

I have an autistic brother who is still a child. Sure, at a childs age it is fine to carry them around, but when he started bringing his toy Panda everywhere and talking to it alot, we had to stop this. Sure, he wasn't hurting anyone, but socially it wasn't giving him the best reactions.

LilTink, how do you think your brother would react seeing an adult acting that way?

Sometimes I worry that in our "not hurting anyone" actions, we may cause harm to another who can't recognize play/pretend behavior.

Nope not sad. My job as her friend is to protect her and help her fit in socially in situations that she hasn't been able to. She has a normal IQ but gets depressed and suicidal. She regresses into a little girl at the start of her depression. Keeping her acting as an adult helps her mentally not regress into the child/depression/suicide spiral. So yes it is the right thing to do. Encouraging her to do anti social activities is not in her best interest.

Ok, with that information it's a different story. However, there are cases where it might be helpful even for an adult to have a security item, whether it's doll or a stuffie or whatever. I was thinking of something like a person who had suffered some sort of trauma and new places freaked them out so they needed that familiar thing to feel better. In a case like that, hang whatever looks they get, if they need it to feel better mentally, they should have it. That's what I think of in cases like this, that there is a reason that I'm unaware of that the person needs to have the item. And again, it's not hurting anyone.

I have taken my stuffed elephant for the past 10 years. He was a gift from my then DF, now DH. I took him with me the first time because I missed DF and so he was a little piece of him there. I thought it would be cute to get a picture with him on Dumbo and with Mickey at Disneyland. While I was in line for Dumbo, the CM asked how many and I said one, and she said, no I think you mean two and gave the feather they use for boarding to the elephant. Then when I was in the Mickey line, someone saw him and thought it was such a cute idea they were going to bring their bunny next time. Mickey played with him, and later Daisy grabbed him and tossed him into the air. I had never had so much character interaction as I did that day.

Now I take him all the time, and I definitely notice a change with the CMs when I have him visible and when I don't. We don't have kids so the only time we get special attention, is when I have Mr. Elephant out and about. It seems to be a signal to the CMs that we aren't stuffy adults, we like to have a good time too. The characters take that extra 10 seconds to dance/wave, etc. instead of "hello, pose, goodbye."

Disney is supposed to be a place where the kid at heart can come out and play, isn't it?

That is when you work on getting a security object that is socially acceptable. (a necklace, locket, keychain etc....)

The couple with the baby doll, that just screams issues.

Really, who cares if people carry around stuffed animals/dolls in the parks? How does it affect your enjoyment of the park?
