We were there 2 or 3 years ago when they were first introduced and I thought they were the ugliest things I ever saw. So what is their appeal?

Yeah I'm there too. I couldn't understand them and their purpose... just another form of pin trading? Something to collect? :confused3

You are not alone! I don't get the appeal either. I wish they would be like the disney statues they had several years ago that were decorated by different celebrities. Those were really nice!

Darn was hoping to find an answer here :)

It's another thing to collect like beanie babies - but I'm with you. While I wouldn't say 'ugly' they are definitely unappealing and they take up way more space then my shotglass/keychain collection.

So I guess to each their own, but I usually collect useful stuff. So if i had a party for 50 everyone could have their own shot glass (and keychain!) if really needed :rotfl:

I like the "create your own" ones. But I would leave them plain. IMHO some are just weird and creepy.

Here I am, Here I am!!!!!! My dd, 17, collects them. Has been since they came out. She puts them out on her shelf...has a pretty decent collection going. She loves the fun of seeing what's in the unmarked boxes but loves being able to choose some that she really wants from those that you are able to see.
They're Mickey shaped...how can they be ugly??? She has some that really bring back some fun memories and places. They take up about the same amount of room as a shot glass..so not that big at all.

I have a ball getting them for her. I know that Santa brings her two or three each year in her stocking. I whisper in Santa's ear at Epcot when I"m down there in early Dec..I tell him that Kate really needs a few more for her collection.

I tend to agree with the majority here, but ds15 started collecting the Muppet ones and they are growing on me. I do like the Muppet and Toy Story ones, but I don't want to collect them for myself--I already collect enough stuff!;)

DS and I have a fair size collection. We enjoy the variety and the excitement of getting a blind box. I've always enjoyed things that are different and unusual looking. I also really enjoy contemporary art! :rotfl2:

I love them. I have around 20 or so now, and growing. I always get one if I'm there for a special event (F&G, Osborne Lights, Marathon, etc) and I have others that are fond memories of different parts of the parks or attractions.

Lol, this is practically an "I hate vinylmation" club with an exception or two. I keep shaking my head whenever I see them. I just can't see the appeal.

I started collecting them b/c I'm into custom vinyl toys that they were inspired from. I love Disney, so it was a fun design to collect. I'm picky about which ones I keep though, so I'm glad they started doing the trading in the parks. It's fun to find one you like and get rid of that weird one you don't really want in your collection. :goodvibes

It's just something cute to collect, if you don't like them then no one is going to make you buy them XD

I used to hate them. My son and daughter in law have hundreds of them and go to the special trading events, etc.

I now have a half dozen or so and they are cute. I like them better than pins.

Just like any other thing to collect, they become addicting. They are some very ugly ones, I agree, but also some quite cute ones!

I do these mostly for my boys! For them, trading in the parks is quite fun and I love the interaction with cast members they get from talking about them and looking for certain ones.

They have 2 cases in their playroom that they display them in and I think they are quite cool. :thumbsup2

They appeal to some people the same way others love the D&B purses. (Which I personally think are kinda ugly) Some of the series/vinyls are definitely much better than others, but that is what happens when you have a few hundred. Some are clear winners, others not so much.

i totally agreed too....didnt get it at all...till my last trip. for that i have my travel agents hubby to thank for it. he started collecting the muppet ones on their honeymoon last year. sent me with money to buy some on our feb trip....i accidently got him a double, so in may i was on the hunt to trade....i actually got my friend addicted to it too. it was hilarious! so i started buying too. i like certain ones, the muppets, series two has pigs in space! i also got the canada flag one and the 40th anny one and the ones representing each park. now ther is so many out there its hard not to find one you dont like. the trading is fun too. much like pin trading, which i also like....man i need to just start signing my money over to disney from home.
