Ok, explain to me the appeal of vinylmation...

I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't love these things!

But then again, I'm not a fan of Duffy the Bear either. If I want a little stuff bear, I'll go to Build a Bear, not WDW, lol.

And what's up with roly poly Mickey???? I find that to be just wrong. Guess I'm a purist...

We were there 2 or 3 years ago when they were first introduced and I thought they were the ugliest things I ever saw. So what is their appeal?

I thought it was just me. :confused3 And I collect everything Disney. From Art to paper plates. But I just don't get this collection at all. And may I say that my Hubby is just thrilled. :rotfl2:

Just like any other thing to collect, they become addicting. They are some very ugly ones, I agree, but also some quite cute ones!

I do these mostly for my boys! For them, trading in the parks is quite fun and I love the interaction with cast members they get from talking about them and looking for certain ones.

They have 2 cases in their playroom that they display them in and I think they are quite cool. :thumbsup2

Not crazy for them as I said. But this IS a nice way to display them. :thumbsup2

I hate knick-knack stuff (and clutter) but if I had a kid, I would rather he/she collect those than something else. I think they are pretty cute, esp. when displayed nicely (like in the above pic). Would I buy them for myself? No...

I never really understood them either. I prefer pins cause I can easily carry them into the parks and always manage to find at least two per trip that i HAVE to have (), but seeing the vinylmations displayed so elegantly really changed my mind :flower3:

Our three boys (ages pre-school to pre-teens) love these. The trading is a sport for them at WDW and DL! And to see their excitement and enthusiasm - that's enough for me! The joy of watching them react when they open a blind box and get a "good one" - so fun! It's also funny to see what they like and don't like, watch their attempts to get "good" trades, etc. And each one has a story - how they got it, what they traded for it, where they found it (almost always in a Disney park.)

They made display cases for their vinylmation (also with materials from Michael's.) They started with a wine bottle display case (on its side) and painted wood block "risers" so they could fit the maximum number of vinylmation inside without obstructing the view of the ones on the side. The cases are prominently displayed in their rooms and a happy reminder of their Disney trips!

Thanks so much for the compliments on the cases guys! :goodvibes

They really are awesome. My oldest son had a great time when we got these. He picked his faves for the bottom case and put the more "girly" ones that either he picked for me at WDW or ones I bought myself in top case. They both enjoy getting a few out of the case at a time to play with and then putting them back to be able to show other family members when they come over. :rotfl: They really do look much nicer in there than just piled up around the house like they were for a while there. I love having them all together like that and the kids love that they are all in their playroom.

We will definitely need another case after next trip though so I need to keep an eye out for a Michaels coupon. ;)

I agree, vinylmation figurines are bizarre looking:confused3, but we recently started collecting the new Pop figurines. We put them on our shelf, they are all very cute.

Do you guys remember when those decorated full sized Mickey's toured throughout the country??? The vinylmations remind me of those.

Great, now I have to go and find display units like those...love 'em.

I am a 25 year old guy and love these things.....I find it so much fun to go after a certain series or find the chasers....or try my hardest to steal my girlfriends 3D mickey. For $10 a piece, there is really no reason to not buy a few and just see what you think.......

to the person who asked where to trade, almost every store in WDW has them. They have a clear box as well as a mystery box where you pick a number, and get that particular vinyl. It is a blast trading!!

Also, that shot glass display is BRILLIANT!!! Going to michaels today!!

Yes, we talked about that on our last trip and actually thought those statues were how this whole thing got started. I didn't realize that there was a whole Vinyl culture out there before Disney.

Isn't it funny how what one person likes, another doesn't. :goodvibes We think that those Disney Pop Figurines are just too weird and don't see the appeal. But, I'm sure every poster on this thread who doesn't like Vinylmations has purchased something that others think is bizarre or ugly and vice versa. I would never begrudge someone their own collectible or hobby just because I don't like it myself.

I like vinylmation but I don't have any. I think they're cute and wouldn't mind having a few. I collect Disney buttons and put them in frames and I think that's fun, so I can see why people like collecting them. I think it's the same with collecting pins (which I don't care for), just something different that people like. :goodvibes

My dd has one that is from NYC and is the Statue of Liberty...sort of. That one is really unique in her collection.

ohhhh blind trading too..that sounds fun! thank you for the info. :)

going to get one of those brilliant cases for my honey. He collects Simpsons figures from Kidrobot and we need a case for them (when I say we, I mean him...but they are driving me crazy, hence the "we". LOL)

I'm sorry, just a 14 year old's opinion.:)

I used to detest them. Some of them are growing on me, though. Some are still just a bit too creepy.
