I'll be the first to admit i am not point conscious.......meaning I just book ressies for any room any time for any place i feel like staying regardless of points...........the DW is very point conscious.........how many of you are like me????? My wife and i have a bet on this so be honest........

We are point conscious, but we would not let it effect our vacations in a big way.

I only bought 150 points, so I have to be. Yesterday I called my guide and are in the process of buying 100 more points...... maybe then.

I'm very point concious but we don't own enough that Points are no object so we really don't have any choice. If we don't keep track of what we have than we'd be likely to have spent them and not be able to book what we wanted/needed on the next trip.

Best of luck with your bet...let us know who wins :)

Well, it depends on the situation. I recently changed from a 1 bedroom to a studio for our next trip to save a few points. But we always stay over the weekends, no matter what size room we have.

Yes, I am very point conscience, as being so allows me to get the most out of my points and with only owning 210, get the most out of each and every one can really make a big difference in how/when/where we vacation! :sunny:

We own 400 points, and we're using 662 points this year. That's booked, so I'm very aware that we are very much borrowed. I had blithely planned the year out, when DVC announced the Members cruise and so, all of a sudden, I'm (we're) more than point conscious, and we're point poor. Our solution is a 50 point resale add on that should be finalized soon.

For obvious reasons ($) this cannot always be the solution.

I vote yes, we are point conscious, and we enjoy spending every one.

Bobbi :flower:

I'm point conscious because I only have 200. I need a 2 BR most of the time b/c we have 3 children. Rarely, DH and I will travel alone and need a studio. I'm hoping to add on a few more points this summer.

I set up all the vacations at our house. My DW ask when we're going, I let her know and we are off. I book rooms, flights, meals and the dreaded day by day planner, so to answer your question no I am not, depending on the trip I'll decide if I want a studio, 1-2 bdrm. I don't worry about weekend points, I for one am not packing up and moving! that's not why I bought into the DVC

p:s. I really don't think your going to win this one. :guilty:

I'm like you Bongo...........I never make ressies when my DW is conscious!??.............that wasn't the question.......was it......?

I'm VERY conscious of the fact that I need about 1,000 more points! :teeth:

I will say that we manage our points closely, however we do stay in the accommodations we want rather than scrimp on the points. For us, that means four in a 2BR.

So in a way, I think I'm in your camp!

That's one! :)

I map our point usage very carefully... including making sure I don't needlessly book into an more expensive season, when shifting plans by a day or two can save me a few points... BWV standard views, avoid weekends if possible, etc.

And I even map our vacation plans out a few years, so get an idea of how to set up my banking/borrowing more efficiently. Caskbill's planning tools are really good for this job.

I'm WAY point conscious out of necessity. We purchased only 150 (at HHI, no less) and utilized Magical Beginnings. Our first year (2002), we borrowed the full 150 from the following use year. The second year, we borrowed all but 15 or so. Our third year, we borrowed quite a large number from 2005. This, our fourth year, is shaping up to be our best year ever -- we're only 3 points "in debt" for 2006! (Of course our February use year just started today, hasn't it? And gee, I might feel the need to return any day now, huh?)

Despite our small number of points and the constant borrowing, however, I'm pleased with the number of nights we have been able to get. After this latest SSR trip, between our family and the other friends/family members we've dragged along with us, we will have spent over 30 nights in Home Away From Home studios. If we had paid rack rate for those nights, it would have added up to pretty darn close to our purchase price after the Magical Beginnings discount. DH says we can look at any future stays as "profit" now!

DD and I are doing a 4-day weekend cash stay at Pop Century to avoid going back into "point debt." I hate paying cash for a ressie; kinda defeats the purpose of why we bought into DVC in the first place, but I'm keeping my eyes on the prize: eventually we WILL get to stay in a vacation home other than a studio (even if I have to borrow 2007 points next year to do it). Is it true there's no going back once you've experienced the joys of a 1-BR? Guess friends and family will have to learn that the gravy train is closed! Luckily, the in-laws purchased DVC on our last trip together!

Until I can sue and get more points for everyone, i am very mindful of my point usage.

Actually, it's dang simple - we have 270. Every year I need to rent 25 and then I get my 2 BR in April. I wish I had more points so I could do more etc... in the end though, I feel very fortunate we have DVC at all.

I doubt my husband could even tell you how many points we own, let alone when or even what peak season is....

Even though we are in the 1000 point club, we must plan our point ussage carefully. We often bring friends and or family with us, and we want to maximize our trips.

With that said, we dont move on weekends, although sometimes (like HHI this summer) we pay cash for a weekend night (geez the 2 bedroom at HHI is 99 points for Saturday night alone (PEAK)... 1/10 of our total owned points!)

So in a away I am stingy with our points, but willing to splurge when the occasion calls for it.

If I have them, I use them - wherever! Never met a point that I didn't want to use! Maybe that explains why I'm always borrowing!

Currently we have more that we can use, so we're not really point conscious at all....

Well we bought our points to enjoy them and that's what we do! We usually book a one bedroom just for the two of us, don't move on weekends, and will pick our resort based on what we want to do. This June we have a Boardwalk view booked and I plan to enjoy it since we won't be spending tons of time in the parks.

We do manage our points so we aren't greatly in debt. We have borrowed all of 11 points for use during 2005. Our 2005 plans include a week at Boardwalk in a one bedroom, 3 nights at Boardwalk in a studio in September, the DVC Member Cruise, and 5 nights for my in-laws at Vero Beach.

We're VERY point concious - but will not move on weekend nights! We usually go at the lowest season, and 1 bedroom is perfect for the 4 of us. We won't use our points for anything other than the 2 lowest seasons EVER! That said - with only 100 points, we are going to be in a perpetual state of borrowing!

No we're not. We have about 1000 points, and could use 2000 more! :teeth: In a "diaster" we'll simply call CRO and book a room, but when I book with DVC I always get at least a 1 Bdrm, and we look at the weekends as a great time to be there! :)
