We were going to go 1/18-1/20....which is MLK wkend.

NOW I'm considering moving things around bc the only reason we were going in January was to beat the summer crowds!

If I can justify taking DD out if school for 3 days (we will be doing school work on the drive) I will reschedule.

Which is better & if you know why, please explain....I feel like a dork for not thinking about what a 3-day wkend REALLY means in Disneyland.

January 4-6, January 11-13, or January 25-28

Do NOT go Jan 4-6 because most kids will still be on holiday break from school. Most schools start again on Jan 7.:thumbsup2

I know, DD will still be on break as well...but there was this tiny part of me that REALLY wanted that to be the best weekend! LOL :rolleyes1 I added it in there hoping for the best - guess not! :)

Thats where you might be wrong... last year, it was quite slow few days...

not only that, all rides are operational...

only thing down that week would be Disney Gallery...

Nope, this year it's weird the way Christmas falls, for us at least the two-week break happens almost entirely AFTER Christmas...the way I look at it, that week will be SUPER busy because Christmas and New Year's will be way over and there will be more available time for vacationing like this. Honestly, I'm sort of bummed that the kids don't get a few more magical days at home before Christmas.

Either other weekend in January would probably be good. Certainly better than MLK!!

If it makes you feel better, we have always pulled DD8 out of school to go. We usually always go the first week of the holiday season. It just seems to kick off the holiday season right for us. As soon as we get back we are all really in the Christmas Spirit.

I always meet with her teacher and get all the assignments ahead of time. She is a very good student. The parks close early and open later, so she has time to do her work. Next year we may end up going during fall break, but that is because we are getting AP's this trip and will need to go sooner next year before they expire.

I am going to disagree with this. Since you were very intent on seeing HMH, I'd go the 4th-6th. It will be mildly crowded, but not unbearable. Probably a little less than MLK weekend. But everything will be open and all holiday decorations will be up and I'm pretty sure the entertainment is still going on.

If she wants to "beat the summer crowds", then she should not go Jan 4-6 because it will be very crowded, just like it was this year. (They had to restrict ticket sales every afternoon during this same week this year because of the huge number of people visiting the parks.)

I am taking dd 7 out of school for 4 days in early december. I always tell the teacher in advance and get her work.

We went the last week of Jan two years ago and it was great, low crowds and decent weather.

I'm pulling Jeff out of school to go after Thanksgiving. I Have to lie like a dog to get away with it. This year we are going to a funeral. (poor aunt Bessy....:sad2: ) Last year I told the truth and got nailed for it. He is allowed 3 unexcused absenses the whole year or we get in trouble. I hate it but they are sooo GRRRRR:mad: about it. Ehhh so be it. I'm not telling Jeff either that way he won't have to lie. If anyone askes, we went to the funeral on Friday and went to DL on Sat.

whatever

:santa:

I'm pulling my son out of school this week for our trip (well kinda, we do homeschool/cyber schooling). All of his work for the week is already completely done, and his teacher is aware that were going to DL. All she wants us to do is having him read a bit at night. No problemo! Sometimes it's hard to take vacations that go right with the school, I see no problem with taking them out as long as the work gets done.

If crowds were a big issue, I wouldn't take chances and I would go the 11-13. It may just be on those things that varies from year to year. But if you want to see HMH, and all the decorations it may be worth the risk. Really just depends on which is the absolute more priority there! :)

Ok!!! I've been talked into it! I changed everything to 1/10-1/14 (visiting parks 1/11-1/13)!

And....get this!! Our rooms were $189/night at the Desert Inn (big convention 1/17 wkend)....our price went down to $129/nt!!!!!!!!!!! :cool1:

So....thank you everyone for the nays & ayes..I've been think about this hard for about a day & I'm really feeling good about this. The price drop proves to me it was meant to be! ;)

I'm glad you came to a decision. I'm sure you'll have a great time and think of all that money you're saving from the hotel that can be used for other things!
