I am really getting some useful information on these boards. Thanks to everyone. If you book a Disney vacation package staying for 4 nights plus dining and only get a park hopper for two days, can you still have the dining plan for the length of your stay at the resort? Considering on getting tickets through Undercover Tourist to save a few $$ on the other few days. We also want to go to Universal/Isl. of Adventure and Seaworld so I would stay offsite for a few days too.
Thanks again.

The DDP can only be purchased for your length of stay. It's based on the number of nights you're staying at the resort-- no matter how many days tickets you have.

you have to book a package to get the dining plan unless you are a DVC owner. The package must include at least one day ticket...the dining plan must be for the length of your stay. If you choose to dine at a place in a park you must have a valid ticket.

Basically the answer is yes. You can (are required to) purchase the Dining Plan for your length of stay at a WDW resort if you are paying for a Package with Dining but you can choose as little as one day tix. The terms of Free Dining changes- sometimes they require a 1 day tix purchase and sometimes 2 days.

Frankly I wouldn't bother to pay for the Hopper option on those tickets unless you really need it. Get the hoppers from UT and either use the tix from your package as a non hopping day or save them for a future visit. As long as you don't use them they will never expire. I had the resort remove the tickets from my room key when we arrived (they may  but it can be done) so we wouldn't accidentally use them. Then I locked those paper tickets away and we used old non expiring tickets that were on an old room key (that is why I was afraid we might accidentally use them)

Although UT prices are discounted and include tax and shipping, if you are booking a package with dining which requires you to also purchase tickets, (current free dining pin code requires the purchase of a 2 day ticket) you may do better to purchase all your tickets through Disney with your package, since the more days you purchase the greater the per day discount.

A 3 day adult ticket, no hopper, is $224, 4 days = 232, 5 = 237, 6 = 242.
For Hoppers, add a one time fee of approx. $54.

You can do the math depending on what you decide to book... room only or a package with dining but for example -

Disney - 2 day adult ticket, no hopper = $162 plus tax.
UT - 3 day hopper adult ticket, (plus 1 day free) = $293.93 (includes tax.)
2 day Disney ticket @ $162 plus 3 day UT hopper @ $293 = $455 plus.
Disney - 6 day adult hopper = $296 plus tax.

Hope this helps.

Make sure you factor in time to move between hotels if you choose to stay offsie for US/IOA. Most hotels have a 10/11am checkout and a 3/4pm check in so that will be several hours you will be hotel-less, for us we take breaks during the day so that would be a big deal.
