I would love to eat at Ohanas as I like the look of the restaurant and the atmosphere looks fun. However, I will be on the trip with my DH and our best friends. Neither my DH and I or our friends have kids and I am worried my friend might find the family style too loud. We have decided to eat at Ohanas on our Christmas trip anyway. Do you think my friends would not enjoy themselves? Would it be possible to ask for a table in a quieter area? I understand that games for kids will be taking place there and I will enjoy seeing kids having fun, but it is not something we would be joining in with. Is this OK, or is everyone expected to join in? My friends ate at Whispering Canyon on their honeymoon and didn't enjoy it as they were made to join in with things. Will Ohanas be the same?
Thanks in advance.

No, you won't be expected to get involved. matter of fact, we sat right where the coconut races were going by and didn't even pay attention to what was going on, and the tables around us didn't either.

It is loud - the CM that MC's everything is on a mike with a yukeleile (anyone have a clue how to spell that?) and she was quite annoying when we went but it certainly didn't ruin the mood ;) The food was delicious and we had a great time. We had no children with us, just 5 adults. There were lots of parties without children.

The CM leading the games will just invite anyone who wants to particpate to come. Adults participated in the hula hoop contest, as did children, and only children did the races. Like I said, we saw it get started and kept on eating and ignored the rest. Your waiter won't even mention geting involved, likely.

I would mention at checkin that you'd like to be a quieter part, you could be seated behind the pit and be farther away from the action and in a quieter area.

=)

Another option is to eat later. We went last week and were seated around 9:45pm (last seating is 10pm). The restaurant was still fairly crowded, but the loudness and the games were definitely over. We were seated in the back room behind the cooking pit so it was even quiter. I was worried a bit about being seated so late figuring we'd be rushed out, but it was not the case at all. Plenty of food and great service. Also, if you eat late, you can watch "Wishes" from your table - they dim the lights and pipe in the music.

You may want to think about going to the luau instead of 'ohanas. We love both, but when we want quietness and a more romantic feeling, we do the luau.

I went there with three adults and we had a blast! The food was wonderful and we had a great time watching the castle change colors across the lake. Watching the kids play their games was really fun too. I hope you have a great time if you do decide to go!

My hubby and I have eaten at 'Ohanas twice now and we were two adults without any kids. It is one of his favorites and he asks to eat there each time we go. The beef steak is so tender you can cut it with a butter knife. Yummmmmmmm!!! I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. The pork and Turkey are excellent as well. And those little pot stickers. Yummy!!! :flower:

Any how, they were holding a hula hoop contest next to our table and it wasn't a problem at all. We were seated near the windows and could watch "Wishes" from out table. If this is something you'd like, I'd suggest a seating time of 90 minutes prior to the time of Wishes and ask for a table near the window. They turn down the lights and pipe in the soundtrack. I found that to be quite romantic and it's half the price of the luau.

I went with my DH two years ago... and LOVED the meal. BUT>> we were in the "Out of the way" room.... not sure what the area is called, but it was away from all the activities etc.
When I go in 11 days, I will be with just my 10 yr old son. I am going to ask for a seat in the middle of the action!

We love O'hana and try to go every trip. We don't have any little ones but we don't feel out of place at all. Last April we went with friends and got a late PS. We were seated by the window and got to see the MK fireworks during our dinner, they lower the lights and pipe in the music...AWESOME!!

DW and I go quite often with and without kids. Usually we don't notice the noise unless we are specifically listening for it. The races and hula hoops are for short periods and even then they aren't that loud, unless you get a coconut under your feet and a broom trying to get it out. ;)

DH and I go byourselves EVERYTIME, we just get late PS's and watch the fireworks from our dinner table. We love it. GO and have fun.
