Last week my husband and I ate at Ohana's for the first time since that space has been Ohana's. It was wonderful. The only complaint I have is the amount of food we wasted. They bring appetizers (shrimp and chicken wings)and salad to your table. Then the other food starts coming around. We had a few pieces of shrip and chicken, and there was a ton left over. You cannot get a doggie bag. I understand why you cannot get a doggie bag, but we felt awful wasting all that food. When you get seated ask for only a few pieces of shrip and chicken wings. If you want more, it is all you can eat, so they will give it to you.

We loved our dinner there a few months ago.

We felt really bad about the wasted food, too. We're not big meat eaters, and when they came around with the big skewered meat, we each asked for one piece of chicken/turkey and one piece of steak. They proceeded to pile meat on our plates until we repeatedly asked them to stop. (They had only filled 3 of 4 of our plates, but we still had a ton left over). They either couldn't believe that was all we wanted or they were trying to spare themselves the chore of coming back to add more meat if we wanted it.

Now the dessert... that was another story... had to ask for more there!!!

It was one of our best dinners, but I sympathize with you about feeling wasteful.

My friend and I ate at 'Ohana in December 2005, and we both enjoyed the food and atmosphere! (We also stuffed ourselves silly with the yummy shrimp, chicken wings, potatoes, and various meat skewers!) We will be returning this September, of course, during the free dining promotion!

'Ohana = :banana:

Please tell me about dinner at OHanas. I am thinking about adding it to our list for next year but not sure yet.

We ate there a couple weeks ago. Our meal was awesome. DH has an intolerance to garlic. We told our waiter and the chef came to our table to tell him what he could and couldn't eat. The chef prepared his steak, pork, shrimp, and chicken wings without garlic for him. So talk about waste. We got 2 of those things. One served the menu way for me and ds and the other served without garlic for dh. They brought him the full portion of the specially prepared food. He was unable to eat the sausage because there was no way to do that without garlic. I tried the sausage and didn't care for it at all.

I agree with the poster who loved the dessert. We really enjoyed it too. I thought I'd miss that pineapple with caramel sauce, but this dessert was just as good, if not, better.

We ate all our appetizers and asked for seconds! I got thirds on the shrimp! LOL! I don't eat the meats on the skewers though. They are always either tough or bland. I prefer the appetizers and dessert!

Wasted food was not a problem for us!! We asked for seconds on the potatoes and shrimp and finished off the wings!

We loooove 'Ohana! Only one month to go!!

Kingdom, we will be there almost when you are!! My father. I am sure will eat 3rd or 4ths of everything!! I will probably eat seconds of the wings. I loooooooove sticky wings. I have never been, but will be there the first day we arrive!! I have planned maybe 2 wontons, potatoes, wings, 2 shrimps, and little veggie, and salad, and dessert!! I cannot wait!!!!!!!!!!

hey we are doing ohana for BF with Lilo and Stitch is this as plentiful as dinner if anyone has been there for BF can you tell me what you think?

We also cannot finish all the food. We are looking forward to trying the changed menu. Eight more days to dinner at Ohanas!

'Ohana is a family-style restaurant located in teh Polynesian resort (family-style means all you can eat, but they bring it to your table for you).

The atmosphere and food at 'Ohana are inspired by the Polynesian theme; all of the servers are your "Cousins". Remember, 'Ohana means family - and family means nobody leaves hungry.

'Ohana is famous for the tremendous amounts of food that are served. You start with a bunch of apetizers, then you move into mains (which are grilled meats on skewers) and sides, and finish up with a desert.

Here is the complete menu:

I love the shrimp, steak, turkey and pork, but out of the entire meal, my favorite part is the incredible desert - bread pudding with vanilla ice cream and bananas foster sauce. This is the best, most unbelievable sweet treat in all of WDW - makes a Dole Whip look like a V8... makes a Mickey Bar look like an ice cube... makes a Kaki-Gori look like a pile of snow...

'Ohana is my number one, mostest ultra favoritest, can not miss place to eat at WDW. I highly recommend that you add it to your list!

Same here!!! I love everything they bring on the table so I skip the skewered meats in order to pig out on the dessert.

I notice this at buffet's too........why do they insist on carving you a HUGE piece of prime rib when they know that you probably want to try lots of other foods as well?

Who can we write to about this? The individual restaurant manager? The waste is appalling. They could keep the prices down if they didn't waste so much food!

At buffet's I've learned to ask for JUST A TINY SLICE of this or that, and to go back for more if it's good. Nothing worse than some HUGE slice of roast beef that ends up chewy and inedible.

Why write to anyone? I know lots of folks that want that larger serving! I am not a big meat eater so I simply tell the carver that I just want a tiny piece and that is exactly what I'm given. I'm not going to go on a letter writing campaign when a simple no thanks is all it takes! :thumbsup2

They do that because there are lots of people who go to an all-you-can-eat restaurant, whether it's a buffet or family-style, specifically for large portions. Those people complained that they were getting tiny pieces, so the carvers now cut the pieces bigger (which is fine with me, I like large portions).

It's impossible for the carvers to know how much or how little you will eat unless you tell them! The default portion might be too big for you, but don't assume that means the restaurant is just being wasteful.

All-you-can-eat places are most popular with big eaters, so that's who they cater to. If you're not a big eater, all you have to do is tell the servers and carvers when you get there to avoid wasting food.

Their bread pudding was amazing - and a close second to the bread pudding at Raglan Road!!! If you are a fan of that dessert you have to try this one before you really decide. :lovestruc

I guess my point to this is it is all you can eat. They will bring you as much of EVERYTHING you want. We both have good appetites. I felt they brought out too much food when you can ask for more. The service is wonderful, and will immediately fulfill your every request. I do plan on writing the manager of the Ohana's and the Poly. I also plan on eating there again...just asking our server ahead of time to start us off slowly.
