Ohana's Price

Did the price for Ohana's dinner buffet increase in price to $36.99 per person all the time...or was it a reflection of me eating there during President's day weekend?

AFAIK, President's Day would be a peak dining price time.

We haven't eaten there, but just made reservations for our trip in July. I imagine it will be the same price.

You ate during peak season rates:

February 17-26, 2011
March 11 - April 30, 2011
June 3 - August 13, 2011
December 21-31, 2011

For what it's worth, all buffets went up between $2-$3.00/pp at start of 2011. So, by the time you add in tax, tip and peak season upcharges, some dinner buffets are at about $50.00/adult. Crazy prices, and yet another way for Disney to make the DP seem like a better value.

This is not right. I ate there November 27th 2010, which is not peak and it was $36.99 With the peak pricing it is probably $40.99, YIKES!!

I'm pretty certain that in the past T-giving week was included in peak pricing but it's not now. Not sure, but when the peak times for this year were posted, I was surprised that T-giving time wasn't included.

Also, for 2011 (and maybe the same in 2010), it has been posted that the OOP peak pricing times and the DDP peak pricing times are not exactly the same. TDC Nala posted that the other day, saying someone called the dining line to get the peak dates for non-DDP and they were a bit different.

These are the remaining peak seasons in 2011 for the regular dining plan:

March 11 - April 30, 2011
June 3 - August 13, 2011
December 21-31, 2011


And they do at this point match up. Don't know if they matched up earlier in the year though - they may not have.

That makes sense if Thanksgiving week last year was a peak time and not this time.

We ate at Crystal Palace the day after and when we arrived we saw the price was $40.99 for dinner and when we came back to eat it was reduced to $36.99, so that makes sense if the day before was peak and they just forgot to take down the peak price sign.

Medieval Times is OVER $50 before tip for an adult...the food at Crystal Palace was better in quality, quantity and variety. I think "crazy" is relative.

While it is a lot of money to spend per person on a meal, I will say to us it is "worth" it as far as Disney dining goes. We ate there a couple of weeks ago and it is one of our favorites - a must do every trip. I think all of the food is good at 'Ohana - at least what I eat there. I don't eat the shrimp, but my son loves it (he had about 15 of them). I didn't have any pork but really liked the chicken and steak. I'm not a fan of wings so I didn't eat them, but my son and daughter love them. The dipping sauces are great. I love the salad and noodles and the dessert is one of the best at WDW! Already have an adr for our trip in August.

True, but Medieval Times is a multi-hour long event, correct? Haven't eaten there, so not sure...We can get in and out of Crystal Palace within 1 hour, if the characters are on time. Food hasn't changed in years, service spotty and very noisy and chaotic.

Also, the same dinner that is now approaching $50.00/adult (with tax and tip) during peak season, was only like $28.00 a few short years ago, so I would definitely call that a price increase.

Exactly - its the increases that are so irritating. Nothing has increased at the meals, instead things have decreased or been reduced. I understand typical inflation and the need to adjust for that, BUT Disney seems has gone way above inflation.

The peak season surcharge is the most insulting of all - you get NOTHING additional for the price increase. Its like saying "since we're going to be really busy, we're going to make you pay an additional fee just for the privilege of eating here". They aren't adding tables or giving any extra time or method of getting a table - they are literally just charging you more money for no reason.

Given that it seemed to start showing up not long after the "free dining" promotions hit the scene, we always figured it was a way to recoup some of that cost on the backs of guests paying cash and then force them into the DDP. In either case, Disney comes out ahead.

Yup, totally agree! We have gone from 2-3 TS meals per day to 1 last month, and 0 for this summer's trip!

You are paying for a dinner show at Midevil Times. This isn't the same at all. Your fee there includes dinner and show tickets! The food is a served plate where everyone gets the same thing. Crystal Palace is a buffet with no show. You can not say that characters walking around and signing autographs is a show. Now, comparing Midevil Times to Spirit of Aloha or Hoop De Due Review would be more accurate.
