OK i'm not on the DP . I made a breakfast ADR at ohana and when I did I said we were a party of 6. The woman on the phone said gratutity is included in the bill for party of 6 but one of the "people" is 2 and wont be charged so will they still include it? I mean we are a seating of 6 but only 5 will be on the bill . I dont mind either way but I was just wondering so I can come prepared

I read on another thread that even if you aren't paying for 6 people...if 6 people are sitting there, you will be charged an automatic gratuity. In fact all the restaurants are doing automatic gratuities for parties of 6 i believe so be prepared for it at every restaurant.

I just asked this same question on another thread. Dis minds must think alike.

if there are 5 or more warm bodies at the table, Disney will add an 18% gratuity onto the bill. If only 5 are eating, the 5th is a baby, there are still 6 at the table.

If you use a DDE card, it is a party of any size.

Yep, all people at the table count toward party size, even infants, even people who are just sitting and not ordering.

ok good to know! At least I wont have to sit there and figure out the tip..lol. Does anyone know if they'll be doing it at Chef Mickeys and Biergarten? They didnt say it while making those ressies but could just be that I got a different CM

I believe that ALL parties of 6 will now have gratuity included.

Yes, this is the new policy as of 1/1/08.

Also as previously said, if using the DDE card you will be charged the 18% gratuity regardless of party size.

The good news is when paying the auto gratuity for a party of 6 when one is not eating, is that you are just charged the gratuity on the total bill. So the 6th person is not adding to the total gratuity charged.

Figure a Meal that is $25 per person

$25x5=$125
$125x18% = $22.50 Gratuity

You will not be charged $27 Gratuity (which is 18% of $150 - what the bill would have been if the 6th person was dining)

I just "talked" to someone at Disney about this on their website. I am going in April and it will be a party of 6 one of which is a 2 year old. I was told by "trinsey" that as long I don't order ANYTHING for the 2 year old they will not add on the 18%, however if I order a drink then its automatic 18%. I will tell you all when I get back in april what the situation is. I do expect that I will have to check and recheck ALL reciepts everywhere I go to make sure that I don't get ripped off sorry over charged.

I think that Trinsey may be wrong on this. Several Disney servers have posted here that the policy is regardless of whether they are ordering or not.

I also just went back and checked the online contract. Here is what it says about tipping. Nowhere does it mention that the party of 6 must all be ordering.

(Also worth sharing again is how I was told by a CM that Crystal Palace included gratuity. Even though I told her that A) We're a party of 7 and B) We're using the DDE Card, she still absolutely insisted that we wouldn't pay an additional gratuity.

She further stated that some locations now include gratuity, and Crystal Palace is one of them - before I get jumped on - I know this is not the case :goodvibes )

FOOD AND BEVERAGE TIPPED

Service Charge for Parties of Six (6) or more (effective January 1, 2008).

An eighteen percent (18%) service charge will be included on all guest checks of parties of six (6) or more.

1. The guests will be advised of the policy by the first Host/Hostess (i.e., DRC, Guest Services, Concierge, or Seating Host/Hostess) to accept the guest's reservations.
2. In addition to the above, the policy will be printed on the menus.
3. If a party of six (6) or more, regardless of reservation size, arrives and is seated at the same table and receives separate checks, the automatic service charge shall apply.
4. If a party of six (6) or more arrives and, for whatever reason, is split and seated at separate tables, with the same server regardless of the number of checks, the automatic service charge shall apply.
5. If the party of six (6)or more arrives and, for whatever reason, is split, seated at separate tables with different servers, receives separate checks, and these checks are paid for by separate individuals, the automatic service charge does not apply.
6. In situations where our guests refuse to comply with our policy, it will be the responsibility of the service person to locate a Manager prior to the guests leaving the restaurant so that Management can speak with the guests. If the service person fails to involve a Manager in the situation prior to the guests departing the restaurant, or receives discipline for poor service, the Company will not be responsible for the difference between what the guest left and eighteen percent (18%) of the guest's food and beverage total.
7. The eighteen percent (18%) service charge will be automatically added to the guest check and will be calculated on the food and beverage totals. The server will not be required to inform the guest that a service charge has been included, unless he/she is asked by the guest

Gratuity is included if there are 6 people at the table. They considered my 14 month old son the sixth person even though he was not on the bill and nothing was ordered for him at all. He just ate off of my plate and had his own juice cup.

The CM is incorrect. You will be charged the gratuity. Last year we were a party of 9 (last year it was auto if you were 8 or more). Our party was 7 adults plus a 2 year old and a 3 month old. And YES the auto tip was on every bill at every TS we ate at (at least 10 places). So just take a look at the bill every time to make sure you don't over tip. Our trip in April we are a party of 6 and know that the tip will be added. We are 4 adults, 2 1/2 year old and 11 month old.

Does all of this information transfer to the DDP? I was told that tips were not included this year on the DDP. If this is so, does that mean the meal itself is "paid for" on the DDP, and we just owe the 18% of the total bill? :confused3 We are a grand gathering party of 9. Any info would be great! Thanks.

That's correct. Your meal is paid for on the DDP and you must pay at least an 18% gratuity on a party of 6 or more. We actually found it helpful as the tip was already calculated for us. Of course it wasn't as helpful as when the gratuity was already included on the old DDP!!!
