Ohana's new NOODLES and WONTONS.... (with PICS)

like slightly garlicy olive oil at best. I requested something spicier and this is what they brought out:

I laughed it off...:rotfl: Because this stuff is sour and not spicy at all. Also, they could of at least scooped some in a bowl instead of bringing out the almost empty jar....

I don't mean to doubt you, but I'm just wondering if you ended up trying that sauce they brought out for you. I'm curious because I have a jar of that same rooster sauce in my fridge as it's one of my staple condiments. Chili is the first ingredient in it and I think it has a nice heat kick, a bit hotter than tabasco, although certainly not on the same scoville level as a habanero or scotch bonnet pepper. I never really got a sour note on it, but vinegar is in there, too.

I'm glad to know that 'Ohana has this sauce, though. Next time I dine at Kona, I'll have to see if my server can borrow it from their kitchen.

Thanks for posting those pics. I have been waiting on pics of the noodles. We are eating at Ohana for the first time in July and I am really excited to try everything! :goodvibes

Hi all, we were also at Ohanas this past Thursday night and were VERY disappointed that the cheesy potatoes were gone. I know that they are just potatoes but we loved them.

Anyway, the noodles and wontons were OK but nothing great. The wontons are definately the same as those that I buy at Sam's Club and they serve them at Yak/Yeti and at Lotus Blossum Cafe as well but they are pan fried not deep fried at those places.

After dinner, the chef came out to circulate around the room. We had a nice conversation, but did express our disappointment about the potatoes.

He said that he wanted to tell us the real story as to what had happened to the potatoes (take this for whatever it is worth to you): Disney switched to a no trans fat policy which is obviously a good thing health wise but that it messed up some dishes. The potatoes that were usable under the new policy did not "re-hydrate" well and became mushier and mushier as the night went on. Without the trans fat in them they were not substantial enough for the cheesy dish and they looked so ugly that he decided not to serve them any longer. He mentioned that they did not really fit the theme but that the main reason was the fact that they could not hold up and got too muchy making them turn into mash potatoes. The change to noodles was to take place after Easter as he thought that he had 60 cases of the potatoes left to use even though they got "ugly" during the night. He then found out that there had been an error and he had only 3 cases which meant that he had to make the switch to the noodles almost one month ahead of the plan.

So.....we wont return to Ohana anytime soon as we have been there 2 times in the past 3 months and we just dont really case for the current side items. Still love the atmosphere and we did have a great time last Thursday. We would not let the lack of potatoes ruin our night!! :goodvibes

Excuse me, but udon noodles with fruit and veggies are 10000 times more authentic than cheesy potatoes. In any asian culture, the prior is a staple, while the latter is a foreign treat. Noodles are abundant, especially with a soy-sweet based sauce and veggies and fruit (often times a broth to make it a soup). Potatoes, especially with fat heavy cheese and cream, which by the way can be store bought anyway, will not be expected on any asian table, unless requested.

Just my 2 cents. Honestly, people, its just food, your in Disney World, stop crying over cheesy potatoes! :thumbsup2

I love you all! ;)

Loved your 2 cents !!!!!

Thanks OP for the pics - I think everything looks great! :thumbsup2
Just made our ADR's and we are looking forward to trying the new dishes in September! :woohoo:

Eww :scared: those noodles just look nasty to ME. I don't care how un-authentic the potatoes were, we LOVED them, they were our favorite thing at Ohana. RIP yummy potatoes

The noodles look ok to me. :confused3

We're going to Ohana's for the 1st time in a couple of weeks.

With soooooooo much food at 1 meal, I can't imagine eating more than a taste of anything. So I don't really care if it is noodles or potatoes.

I don't go to Ohana for an authentic polynesian meal because their meal doesn't have much authenticity...even with the noodles.

I go to Ohana (or, use to) for a good meal. And now that the sausage, the fried wontons, and the potatoes are gone? The meal is no more authentic than it was before. And it's no more appealing to me.

If you're going to Ohana thinking you're getting a genuine south pacific meal, that isnt it.

I'm agreeing with the poster a ways back who commented that it looked like the food could be easily made in the home kitchen. I agree. Does anybody else mind paying high prices for food you could do yourself at home? I am having a real problem with this for some reason. It never bothered me before!

I am another who loved the cheesy potatoes! So what if they are not "authentic"!!!

To me the noodles look like the Lo Mein noodles that I get at my local Chinese restaurant!

I'm still going to eat at Ohana and try it out since we loved it so much last time, but I'm not as excited about it as I once was.

I think cheesy potatoes are gross. I'm glad they're gone. The thought of those potatoes kept me from trying Ohana. After this thread, I called for ADR's. Thanks for posting the pictures.

Well we went to the Luau and enjoyed the food there. I am hoping that it is the same menu as that. It all looks good and sounds good. I will find out in four weeks. Can't wait.:thumbsup2

EXACTLY!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

The menu sure has changed a lot since our first meal there in 2004. I miss the rice, the wonton chips and will surely miss the cheesy potatoes! Don't know if we will try it this trip with these recent changes.

The noodles look "ok" to me and probably worth a try...I am very happy that they got rid of that nasty sausage and brought the shrimp back. I will miss the bread pudding but like the pineapple so thats ok.

I think it is a little curious that people are commenting on the noodles being a "dish they could make in their own kitchen". And scalloped potatoes (basically that is what these potatoes were folks, scalloped potatoes with onions in them) is a dish unheard of in the American home? I can guarantee you I had "cheesy potatoes" at home a lot more than we ever had noodles.

I liked the potatoes too, don't get me wrong, but there was nothing that special about them.

It is kind of darned if you and darned if you don't. People threw a fit when they replaced the rice with the potatoes and threw another fit when they took away the grilled shrimp and had a real fit when they replaced the pineapple with caramel with the bread pudding. Resteraunt menus change occasionally folks. Never hurts to try new things, and if you don't like it, don't go back.

Can I ask if there are peanuts in the noodle dish???? Someone else posted there was and then another posted there isn't:confused3
I'm glad the potatoes are gone, I wasn't a fan. I hope I enjoy the noodles more.
What is the dessert now?

I have read on several threads/boards that there is in fact peanuts or peanut oil or in the noodles.
