We ate at Ohana this past Tuesday. Do people actually eat that nasty shrimp? Not only was it incredibly hard to peel the shrimp looked like it had just had a big meal if you know what I mean! Just for the record, that dark filling in the middle isn't some kind of yummy stuffing. YUCK!

We really enjoyed Ohanas...BUT...I will agree that the shrimp were not that tasty. They were a bit overcooked to say the least. I think we completely bypassed the shrimp and ate everything else.

ITA! I've only eaten there once - but I don't see the attraction. Besides the fact that the shrimp aren't deveined, they smell and taste like ammonia. Don't even get me started on those dried out meat/chix skewers or that pasta that's all stuck together, dried out, and hard as a rock!
Others have had wonderful experiences and I'm glad they did, but OHana's is one place I won't have the "pleasure" of dining in again.....
Wow - didn't mean to be so negative... Sorry.

hmmm.... well.... I LOVE :lovestruc O'hana's and we visit EVERY trip!!!!!!! However, in all fairness... I do not eat seafood so I have no idea about the shrimp (or how its supposed to be for that matter either, but what you describe sounds gross)

You know what, Altoqueenkelly? Lots of people DO love it. Maybe we were there on an off day, or maybe the food had been prepared too far ahead of time, but we didn't care for it. I'm glad you did, tho. That's what counts!:goodvibes
We really like HDDR, but some don't. Guess that's what makes the world go round, eh?
So glad we have the Dis so we can get more than one opinion.:disrocks:

Good grief, did they get a new seafood supplier or just completely let go in quality!? Because I'm pretty certain our shrimp was DE-veined in Oct. If so, that's really disappointing. :sad2:

BP-Seasoned Gulf Shrimp ? :confused3

1) OK, so I shouldn't joke about the shrimp quality at WDW.
2) It really is pretty yucky.
3) Same goes for the snails.
4) They got cheap and changed to Indonesian snails. (Cyclotus Politus)

Same here! We were just there in december...I will admit, the whole peeling your own shrimp annoyed me, but not enough to stop me from eating them! :lmao: They were really good!!

When they brought our beef out, it was dry...really dry. DH asked if he could have it medium rare. The second round of beef was outstanding!!! Much better. Too bad the coffee wasn't as good. Our waiter even said it was pretty bad:laughing: which by the way, our waiter was probably one of the best we had on that particular trip...he was very personable and very accommodating.

Mmmm...shrimp. All I eat at Ohana (out of the main courses) is the shrimp. Skewers and skewers of it. :rotfl: Luckily, DH and I have been married long enough that he isn't fazed by the huge pile of shells in front of me and the fact that I've got shrimp juice practically up to my elbows...

Sure, I'd prefer the already-peeled shrimp, but I can see why Ohana uses the cheaper stuff. With peeled shrimp, they'd lose money on my dinner for sure. ;)

I agree with the PP about the coffee, though...it's not the same coffee as the Kona stand, I think it's the Nescafe syrup substance. :scared1:

I guess it's just me that doesn't like to eat poop-stuffed shrimp. :confused3

I LOVE the shrimp although if I see poop I make sure and remove it before I eat it.:thumbsup2

I thought every thing at Ohana was nasty. The meat was either dry or fatty, the shrimp was mushy and gross! I know people love this place, I don't see the attraction. I am not a picky eater and I thought it was terrible.

The shrimp was the best skewer item they served us last time we went in September (steak was great too!) Our shrimp was de-veined though. I agree that I can not eat shrimp that has not been de-veined so that's unfortunate you got that. Did you mention something to the waitstaff or manager while you were there?

We've eaten at Ohana at least 12 times in the last 7 years and our shrimp was always deveined.

My shrimp was de-veined and I just got back from Disney last Thursday...

Can someone explain to me how you de-vein peel and eat shrimp without peeling them? They'd either have to be already peeled and de-veined or they would be un-peeled and still have the vein in them. A de-veined shrimp will be cut down the back to form a little valley and the vein is then removed. I've never heard of a shrimp that still had the shell on them but were de-veined unless maybe they give them an enema or something! :lmao:

I was there this past Tuesday and the shrimp we got was definitely not peeled and definitely NOT de-veined. I'm getting the impression that some folks either don't know the difference or just don't mind.

Hmm, maybe they weren't de-veined then, but they weren't bulging with poo as you suggested in your original post, hahahah.
