Ohana's? Is it for Picky eaters?

I'm considering Ohana's dinner for our May trip. DH is a plain and picky eater - likes meat but not sauces and vegetables. Spicy or flavored/marinated meats are good - but also doesn't like seafood. Sounds like they serve the food from 3 foot skewers? Can anyone elaborate on this and would they recommend it? As long as the meats are "plain" (no sauces other than bbq) he can eat pork, steak or chicken. And is it "all you can eat" so if he only likes one of the items he could get as much as he needs for his meal? Thanks for any input! We'll also have DD2 & DD5 who are a little picky as well....

87 days and counting!!!

The meats do have a marinade on them but if you don't like it you can request some cooked without any seasonings. We were with a group in December where one person didn't want seasonings on the steak. The waiter went back and talked to the chef and they made a "skewer" of meat without the seasonings. Be aware that these meats don't get cooked on the grill because of all the seasonings that are on the grill itself. The opinion of the person who got the steak was it was wonderful and there were no problems with it.

It is all you can eat and if all you want is salad, they will continually bring you bowls of salad. The waiters may even bring you bigger bowls if this is all you are eating. So you can pick whatever you want and just have that.

I too am a very plain, picky eater, who doesnt like any seafood. Ohana is one of my favorites!
I usually fill up mostly on the bread, salad, chicken wings and rice. As for the meats I usually have 1 piece of turkey and a few steak. I have tried the sauces, but since its all you can eat and they continuously bring you more food, if you dont like what you try, you can have something else. The pineapple with dipping sauce is yummy too. I usually need to be rolled out of here. ;)
As for the kids, if they wont eat the food there, you can request a kids meal, if its not offered to you. While they dont have an official kids menu, they will get you anything fromthe Kona Cafe(mac & cheese, grilled cheese, hot dog, chicken tenders....).
Enjoy!

Sounds like my DH. There was plenty for him to eat. He did pass on the seafood, marinated meats. He liked the side dishes alot. My 10 DD had chicken fingers and fries! Be hungry it's alot of food!

When I called this morning to make PS I asked the CM about Ohana's and she said she loves it and just went a few days ago. She was very encouraging so I went ahead and booked a PS for our May trip. It sounds like fun and that the kids will enjoy the lively atmosphere. Hopefully DH will enjoy it as he does like marinated meat - just not dipping sauces or vegetables. Maybe they can bring him some plain white rice! And I'm glad to know I can get something else for the kids as they are hard to please but a good old PBJ or chicken fingers will do just fine!

Thanks for the input!

I'm picky also and Ohnana is my favorite place in the whole world (as opposed to Disneyworld! LOL) I don't eat the shrimp but I love the turkey (which surprised me) and the rice and salad. Make sure you are very hungry when you go. Like Camcolt, I have to be rolled out! Enjoy!

Is it family style like breakfast? Is it extra for the kids to order the ckicken strips, etc? Or is that one of their choices? How much is the meal?

I say try it... we LOVE Ohana's and make sure to go there for every special occasion. We would be going tonight but we have to work on our Anniversary... =o(
Anyhow, even if your DH is picky he will enjoy Ohanas I would think. Like previous posters have said you can ask for the meat without spices, etc. They come to the table on skewers, and then the waiter takes off as many pieces off the skewer as you'd like. The sides are also wonderful (try the wontons for sure) and desert is great... if you can try to make a ressie for about 20-30 minutes prior to Wishes and request a window seat... if you arrive early, they most of the times can get you a GREAT view of wishes and they pump the music into the restraunt. It's so much fun!

This picture should show how the appetizers are served.

The meat is served to each person individually straight from the skewer.

One time we were charged a lesser price for the kids meal, but others have reported having to pay the full "all you can eat" price even when kids get the alternative meal. I meant to check what we were charged the second time we did it, but I forgot. They definitely arent charged any extra for it though. I believe the regular child price is 10.99.

I'm super picky and O'hana's is one of my favorite places. I basically only eat the steak, rice, salad, veggies and the dipping sauces. I find it worth it just for the atmosphere and the great view. Go for it!
