We have the Free Disney Dining...but have used them all up. BUT I keep hearing about Ohana and Boma...

Whats so good about it? Is it better for Breakfest or Dinner? We would be paying OOP for this so I do want it to be worth it.

Why do people rave over Ohana's?? also Boma's?

*Since we are getting Free Dining, I don't mind paying for it, we would probably do breakfeast but is it worth it or should u just go stright to the parks?

Personally I don't like Boma but I love Ohana.

These restaurants are VERY different from each other.

What other ressies do you have? Where are you eating?

At Ohana there is no menu, they serve an all you can eat family style meal of meat skewers (sirloin, pork, chicken and peel and eat shrimp), along with veggies, noodles, a salad, sticky wings with 3 dipping sauces (that are wonderful). Also a pinapple bread and bread pudding with caramel sauce for dessert (best dessert on property).
This is dinner obviously, breakfast is family style as well and is pretty typical of most other buffet breakfasts.

Depending on if you are wanting a dinner and if you are wanting to do one of these meals, often paying OOP for another meal on your list is cheaper. It is just a matter of picking which to pay for. (hopefully that makes sense)

We have:

Cinderellas Royal Table-Breakfest
Chief Mickeys-Dinner
Le Cellier-Dinner
1900 Park Fare-Dinner
Coral Reef-Dinner
Cape May-Dinner

I'm just so not sure what to do....The abve uses all of our 7 DDP TS Credits so anything in addition we would be paying for and I believe they are all not inexpensive...:scared1:

I'd vote Boma over 'Ohana.

It really depends upon the experience you want.

Boma - buffet, 'Ohana - family style

Boma - quiet setting, 'Ohana - kid entertainment during meal (characters am, some silly stuff evening)

Boma - AKL - advantage of browsing their savanna and talking to the CMs.
'Ohana - Poly - nice resort, too, but easier to get to anytime you want to see it since it's on the monorail

Boma - I think is best breakfast at WDW. Haven't done dinner.
'Ohana - only done dinner and I won't ever be going back - service sucks, food is only "good" and I don't think it's the best dessert on property like the PP said. (though, it was good, just not the best, IMO)

VERY different - go with what you think your family will like.

IMO, Boma was disgusting - the only thing I enjoyed there were the Zebra Domes. I'd suggest going to The Mara, the quick service at AKL, to get the Zebra Domes.

I LOVED Ohana, and I was very skeptical - I'm a VERY picky eater, but it was delicious!!!!

We absolutely loved Ohanas....the food was fantastic (we did the dinner) and just kept coming and coming. Of every restaurant we ate at during our 2 week vacation, they were the most accomodating with special dietary requests and the dessert was absolutely my favorite on property.

Boma on the other hand was rated as one of only two we would never do again. We waited an extra hour from our ADR time, which i know sometimes can't be helped, but found the staff rude and the food to not be that wonderful. My boyfriend said that if we hadn't had it on the free dining plan he would have been really mad paying that much to eat here.

I know everyone will have differing opinions on these and that boma's gotten lots of rave reviews, but if you want to do boma i would definitely opt for the breakfast as i have heard it's supposed to much better.

That being said, we may have had an off night at boma's and you could end up really liking it as many others do, but i would definitely recommend ohana over boma:goodvibes

I would pick 'Ohana over Boma. We do not have the DDP this trip, so we are paying OOP. We have only 3 ADRs... Chef Mickey's, 50's Prime Time, and 'Ohana dinner. DD8 picked them.

You might want to check to see if there's even an ADR available for your trip. We avoid Sunday and Monday there, because DD loves the woman who plays the ukulele and teaches the hula, Lipoa. Her days off are Sunday and Monday. We found out the hard way, lol, when we went on a Monday night and she wasn't there. DD was very disappointed.

If you're looking for the best breakfast on property than Boma hands down! And 'Ohana is one of our favorite dinners on property(Not counting signature meals)! So I guess it would depend on what meal you're looking for.

From looking at your current ADRs I would say that Ohana would add variety. We went for the 1st time in December and were somewhat skeptical due to some comments on the DIS but was pleasantly surprised. Found it to be a very enjoyable meal. Not sure how people complain about the service. We had to turn servers away as we had so much food on our table to begin with. The server virtually forced the dessert on us :lmao:. It was well worth it. Absolutely delicious.

A good tip found here to ask for medium rare beef worked to perfection.

Thanks! After trying and trying a ressie became availible this morning for 4 people @ 7:05pm for Jan 28th!!! I was :cool1::worship:

Never been to Boma due to my DH who is not one for trying new things but can give you my 2 cents about Ohana.

Ohana is our favorite restaurant in Disney. The food is great and even my young kids love it. Everything is flavored and delicious. The food keeps coming and coming.

That's great! :thumbsup2

I've been trying to change my 2/5 ADR to any date 2/1-2/4. All I can find is stuff around 9:00pm, which is just a little too late, lol. If I can't change it we'll keep what we have. It just doesn't fit our schedule as well as I'd like. ;)

Suggestion. Change Cinderellas Royal Table to Akershaus cause you will meet Cinderella at 1900 Park Fare and Make reservations at Ohana. We ate there for the first time last year and loved it. The bread pudding is to die for.

Last year we ate dinner at CRT and was not happy at all with it. Menu completely changed and food wasnt as good IMO

That's a good idea! We like Akershus better too. And that would free up a credit to pay for 'Ohana, so no OOP. :thumbsup2
