'Ohana

Need your expert advice. I just read some less than glowing reviews about 'Ohana. We have ressies there this summer. My dh loves Poly so I thought we would try it. Please share your experiences!!

On another note, dd(13) does not eat meat. I know that when we did Hoop Dee Do she was able to get a veg selection which was pasta and sauce. I need to call and ask about this but does anyone know what they may have? They have items on the kid's menu that she would eat but she is too old.

Last year, I almost changed this ADR because of the negative reviews I'd read here on these boards. DH convinced me that since we were staying at the Poly and hadn't eaten at 'Ohana, we should try it.

I'm so glad we did! The meal was very good. I do not eat red meat, but the turkey was fine. DH ate everything. Potatoes are very, very good, and the veggies were good. The dessert was excellent, as was the salad. Our servers were good, too, and DD had a blast with the kids' activities.

Sorry I can't help about the vegetarian options. I do know they have them because when I mentioned I do not eat pork or beef, the server said there was something for vegetarians, but I had so much other stuff to eat that I didn't feel deprived at all.

My advice: do it once and decide for yourself. Remember that the opinions expressed on these boards are just that--opinions of certain people.

I posted the experiences we had a couple of weeks ago over on the review boards, but for us, at least, I was very content to lay all bad experiences to rest. We were delighted with the food and the service. Yours may be a different experience, but for us, it was perfectly fine.

DD's aunt is a vegetarian because of medical reasons, and they prepared an Asia noodle-based dish for her. It was full of veggies, perhaps some tofu. I sampled it and it was pretty good, and that's coming from a devout carnivore (or omnivore, more accurately.)

We love O'hana. I don't eat any meat and there was plenty for me to eat. I do eat shrimp, so I had that along with all the other food. It was so good last December, that we cancelled one of our other ADR's and went to O'hana for second time that week. The do have a vegetarian dinner, but I never had it.

Another Ohana lover here! We love the atmosphere, the kids activities, and the views from the window seats.

I will admit; however that the food can be hit and miss. Most of our meals at Ohana had great food. A few times it wasn't so great. I think it really depends on who the chefs are the night you dine at the restaurant. But, to be fair most of the restaurants at Disney are hit and miss as far as the food quality.

First time O'hana visitor here-but NOT the last time. We really enjoyed everything about our meal. Like the chips to dip, the salad is nice & lite-had too much of that!! The shrimp were really tastey & I don't care about shrimp that much buy DH does & he peeled mine for me! Loved the maui scalloped potatos & sad to say, never even touched the veggie dish they served. After all that, didn't even care about the meat because I was already getting full. The meats were really good by the way. The only other important thing to note is to save room for dessert-one of my favorites of the trip. Try calling the restaurant ahead of time to inquire about the menu options. I've read enough times on these boards that the chefs are more than willing to help if they can. Just don't really know seeing it is kind of a set menu. Only complaint of the place, the food comes out too fast. Just take your time & don't let them try to rush you because that's how it feels. Will go back!!

We loved Ohana and are planning on going back next year! I say try it and see for yourself. I am sure that there will be something for your dd to eat there. I think they can even bring her some mac and cheese or a pb and j if she wants it. I would just have it noted on your ressie. I am sure it will be fine.

Last year I went to Ohanas and am partial. The food was not so great..most of the menu was meat. However, the games were really cute and we ended up getting to see the fireworksat MK. They piped the music in which was really neat. It is a great atmosphere but not so great food, especially if you don't love meat.

We ate at Ohana's in December and it was great. The food and service were excellent. We timed it really well because we could see the fireworks from MK while eating dinner. Looking forward to going back in September

Our family loves 'Ohana, but we are 10-year fans of the place. WE think it is fantastic. The skewered meats can be inconsistent, but that's often the way it is with grilled meats. The steak, at its best, is superb. At worst, it's dry and overdone. The pork ranges from moist and flavorful to dry and chewy. The turkey is almost always good. I'm not a big fan of the sausage (why anyway when there is steak and shrimp?) If you have a problem with the quality of the meat, feel free to tell your server what's wrong and that you would like it replaced. It should be no problem.

If you're looking for a quiet romantic meal, this is not the place. It is loud! It is, however, great fun for families, especially ones with children under 12. If you like only restaurants with gourmet food, you will be disappointed. In my opinion, the food is good, and there is plenty of it. Also, the dessert is amazing.

Admittedly, the place is primarily about eating meat, but they should be able to accommodate dd13. Just remember that it's not their specialty.

By the way, I have to disagree emphatically with the WDWinfo.com review of 'Ohana. While it's true the MK view is no longer what it used to be, Wishes is still easily viewable, and they pipe in the soundtrack. Perhaps in their opinion the food ranges from mediocre to poor, but I think most people would feel differently - and that's why it has a large loyal following. In fact, it is harder to get into the place now than it was 5 years ago. Then, I could walk in almost any night and wait only 15 minutes at most. Now, without an ADR, you may be turned away - even in January!

Don't change it!!!! We ate there for breakfast on our last trip and LOVED it!!! We had reservations for Kona Cafe, due to all of the great reviews, and were TOTALLY disappointed. All we kept saying was...We should've gone to Ohana!
