Ohana, you're officially off my list!

The original poster stated that they had to wait forever to be seated and she understood that because she didn't have an ADR. She also complained because there were so many empty tables. This does happen everywhere in Disney. Unfortunatley lots of people make an ADR and then waitlist for the one they really want and don't bother to cancel the first one. Or they make multiple ADRs for the same night because they are not sure where they really want to eat. Then they figure it is to much of a hassle to cancel all of the others. My brothers wife has a friend who worked in reservations for a while, she filled us in on this one. That is why for places like CRT you have to put down a credit card #. If you don't show they will still charge you. Maybe they should do this for all TS resteraunts. As for the food I bet if I started another thread asking for good reviews I will get just as many. Case in point a few weeks ago we went out to dinner with friends. The next day we were at their house, we were celebrating a family birthday and she was raving about the food to anyone who would listen. Her husband and I both thought it was one of the worst tasting meals we had had in a while. All 3 of us had ordered the same thing. What I am trying to say is be careful of avoiding a place because of what you read. Look for the good ones also and then make a decision. Now I think I will start that new thread about good reviews.

I went to ohana last week the food was wonderful. I was surprised to read about flavorless noodles as we loved them so much we had seconds (and that was the only thing we had seconds on)

DD16 & I are at WDW now & last night we ate at O'hana, what a waste!

We couldn't get a reservation so we showed up at 5:00 & patiently waited the hour & 45 mins to get a seat. I didn't mind waiting but i was upset once we got in & saw oodles of empty tables open the whole time we were eating. Our server was Newton. The salad was nothing more than lettuce in a bowl. The dumplings & chicken wings came out cold. DD didn't like the dumplings & I don't like chicken
wings. Next was the broccoli & noodles. The noodles were hot but dry & flavorless & the broccoli was cold & flavorless. By this time we had a whole table of food that is going to waste. I don't know about anybody else but I like to eat my meat with my side dish, not as a meal all by itself but that's pretty much how it was served. The chicken & pork came out too frequently (but the chicken was good). The steak came around one time & the shrimp came around alot because they couldn't believe how much of it DD was eating. Finally dessert came - I had a few bites & DD ate the rest (it's her favorite).

Then came the bill - $77 for both of us. That's the part that did it for me. We won't be going back until they make some improvements to the menu especially the side dishes. I don't enjoy paying $77 for some meat & dessert.

Farewell O'hana!

I am very sorry you had an awful experience there. I can sympathize with some of what you experienced.

Our family too had a not so great dining experience there too for our supper in 2009. Not to go in any great details as they can differ from day to day but it was enough to scratch it off our list too for supper.

Surprisingly enough, we had a wonderful breakfast there with the characters and plan to go back for our visit in 2011. Definitively, only for breakfast.

With all the other great dining experiences we don't have any desire to go back any time soon.

we love ohana..eat there every trip and have never had a bad meal..we always ask that the sides and meat come out together and we have never had a issue , they bring the sides all at one time when the meat starts comming...perfect.

We ate at 'Ohana's the same night as the OP and it wasn't great. This was one place my DH had insisted I get an ADR as it's always been a favorite of his and he's not too hip on going back now.

The salad was barely dressed, and the meat was over-cooked. Our server was mostly MIA. I think this was the main problem - the service was really lacking that night.

The kids really enjoyed the entertainment, so it wasn't a total loss, but we'll probably be leaving an ADR slot open for someone else next year.

I love Ohana, but I have experienced bad service there as well. I just figure that into my expectations so I'm not disappointed if the service isn't stellar. Maybe they give the servers too many tables or the training is poor - I don't know, but the service is never really great there, even on the good days.

BUT, as long as Ohana remains as one of the most sought after reservations with people willing to wait over an hour for a table, I doubt they will change anything.

I still love 'Ohana and cannot understand all the venom against it on these boards lately. The wait for a table is often long because the restaurant is popular. At this point, readers of this forum should know that before making a reservation and adjust accordingly.

The manor in which the meal is served can lead to confusion among the wait staff. I don't think I ever had a server/server's assistant combination totally in sync with one another. But everyone there is friendly and responds to requests. Anyway, we like the food and experience enough to overlook innocent lapses in service.

Maybe my family has just been lucky, but I remain an 'Ohana supporter.

We went for the first time on 9/27 after trying for months to get the reservation. We were seated within 15 minutes, and got a table by the window that we requested. That is where the happiness ended. It was the most disappointing meal we have ever had on Disney property. We enjoyed the bread and salad, and *nothing else.

The food kept piling up and up uneaten and our server Doug was totally uninvolved. We had to ask several times for drink refills. We asked for another loaf of bread and salad so we wouldn't have to go to the food court on our way out! Doug asked if everything was okay, and we told him no...and he said "Well, maybe you should try Kona next time!". :confused3 $125, that was the most expensive bread and salad we ever ate!

Okay, so now i'm second guessing 'Ohana too. I mean, the meal isn't exactly cheap!!! I was able to find a Kona reservation just 10 minutes after our 'Ohana one. What should I do...lol???? We had booked Kona originally and the cancelled for 'Ohana since DD's almost 4 and we felt 'Ohana would be better for her. BUT, she's been eating in restaurants since she was an infant so is pretty well behaved.

Kona is great, IMO!

Like the OP, we ate there 9/21 as well. We had a reservation, but the only one we could get was for 945pm! We showed up a bit early hoping to get in, and we did. We were seated around 900pm. Ohana has always been a favorite of ours....a must!....so, although I tried for the last three months to get an earlier reservation, and couldn't, we were happy just to get to eat there again this trip.
Although I have few complaints about the food, the service was horrible! We were seated in the very back corner of the restaurant (near the wall by the restrooms), although there were TONS of empty tables in the main dining room. This irked me a little since my niece was with me, was her first trip to WDW, and the fireworks show was just starting, but I said nothing about being moved since they had "fit us in" almost an hour earlier than the hard-to-obtain reservation time. I'm allergic to shellfish....I just don't eat the shrimp....'nuff said.....but after the salad, wings, potstickers, and sauces were all on the table, I finally had to ask for bread. The "waiter's assistant" said, "Oh...sorry. You WANT bread?" I said "yes" to which she replied, "Oh, I didn't think you'd want the bread since I saw an allergy on your ticket." HUH??? Is there not more than one kind of food allergy?? I smiled and said, "No, we'd like some bread. I'm allergic to shellfish, so unless you put that in the bread, we'd like some bread." It took 10 minutes, but we did finally get more bread.
In that same vein, my niece LOVED the salad. The assistant asked if she'd like more since she's not much of a meat eater. She said she did....again, 10 minutes later, she received more salad.
Near the end of the meal, my niece had noticed many many patrons leaving with multiple leis. She asked the head waiter how she could get one of those. He said, "just act silly and make a fool of yourself." She laughed and said she was fine with that! But, as late as it was, the games and song was all over. He said he'd bring her one. Long story short, 30 minutes later and asking twice more, she finally got one. The last time he was asked, I asked. He acted ill that I asked and was quite rude when he brought it back, just throwing it on the table with the bill. It's not that it was a big deal....I would have been happy to buy her a lei in the gift shop...it was just that he was so rude about it. If he wasn't going to bring her one, why even offer in the beginning? She's a child. She took him at his word.
We'll eat there again as we love the food there generally....but the wait staff definately needs improvement.

Yes I agree, the server should have brought a lei out for your niece when she commented on them. They do give them out to the kids, she was obviously interested and the nice thing would have been to just go and get her one (or two). It would have taken all but a couple of minutes to do so and to throw it down on the table with the bill would have ticked me off.

I ate there last trip for Character breakfast. Everything was very good. My only complaint was waitresses looked frazzled. IMO that's the management's fault as not enough help was there. Will eat there again. DELISH!!!!:thumbsup2

Ohana's of late seems to be living off their reputation and skating by lately according to recent opinion here. I am on the fence myself about booking next summer. :confused3

I have never been to O'Hanas but do plan on trying it next yr. I take these reviews like a grain of salt... everyone has their personal opinion and experiences but that doesn't mean that I will feel the same.

To the OP sorry you didn't enjoy your meal.
