Ohana vs Whispering Canyon Cafe?

I don't care if you're talking breakfast or dinner, but there is no comparison, IMHO that 'Ohana is a better choice. If the price difference doesn't matter - the character breakfast is great - food is good. Dinner is fantastic - great food, all you can eat, fun atmosphere. The variety of meats and sides is wonderful. The peanut sauce is amazing. The bread pudding is incredible.

I know WCC has the all you can eat skillet, but the quality is not that great and while I may be in the minority I HATE the atmosphere. We had dinner there Tuesday night and the whole "asking for ketchup" thing was about to drive me crazy - like 10 times while we were there. I don't care for the - whatever you want to call the attempted playfulness. It annoys me and the food has never been enough to warrant putting up with it.

DS like it and dh doesn't mind it so about once a year I'll go, but I always find the food doesn't make up for the "entertainment". I had the strip - which was underooked and too charred(burnt) on the outside (I didn't send it back as I didn't want to deal with any "roleplaying" from the server). The sweet potato fries were no different that the bag I get at Sams Club and the vegetable side was bland. DH had the skillet and didn't ask for seconds of anything. DS had the child's fish - which is salmon, even though adults get trout. He enjoyed his dinner, but it was you standard Disney kids meal.

We've done both. Probably won't return to Whispering Canyon - food is OK, service was horrible (not the antics, just totally ignoring us, we were there forever). I love BBQ and we have a similar family-style place close to us that is sooooo much better. Did love their cornbread!

Ohana - loved it and we're returning in March. Honestly, the weakest portion of the meal was the meats - they're a bit dry, but with the sauces they give you, still good. The sides are Amazing!! Loved the noodles and the potstickers. Great salad, dessert is unbelievable. We loved the atmosphere and the games for the kids. Looking forward to going with a bit bigger group this time.

This is a great comparison of the two places. Many have commented on just passable service at Whispering Canyon. Ohana would be my pick.

We have done both and enjoyed each one of them, but I would chose Ohana, hands down.

Both......

Those are 2 of our favorites even though they are very different.

I say go with which menu you like best, they are WAY different.

Have fun!

Have to stick up for WCC a little bit. It is a loud, obnoxious and totally fun place. It is my father's favorite place and the only one that we are repeating from last year (at his request because it is his birthday). We do an awful lot of very nice places at WDW and it is great to be able to yell at the top of your voice to get your server attention. My daughter loved the horse races. Dad loved the skillet. I can't remember the food myself so it couldn't have been bad or great.

Now, that being said, we will be going to Ohana for the first time this year so I can't compare. What I can tell you is that I have not found a bad review about it anywhere. Which to me is amazing.

I completely agree with your statement about Ohana. The sides are truly the best part of the meal and I honestly return just for them! The salad is awesome! My boyfriend (who is not a huge salad eater) probably could've eaten the whole bowl of it plus the whole plate of pot stickers and the noodles are out of this world delicious! I would definitely go with Ohana!

Ohana is a good show, but you are paying for it, the food is not that great. Whispering Canyon is a restaurant where the servers are very entertaining and the food is great. The bottomless milkshakes are a great beverage.

Ohana is my DD8's favorite place to eat. She loved the coconut races (dont know if they still do them)? Also a fabumouse place to sit and watch the electric water parade from what I hear. Haven't done this one yet but plan to next time we go! Will do a dinner and a breakfast there during our 8 day stay.:beach:

We loved both.

Whispering Canyon: the skillet gives you everything. I loved it, DH thought it was too salty. The antics are fun but some people find it annoying.

O'Hana's: Hard to get a reservation but we finally did. There was sooo much food and you couldn't refuse it that we felt guilty leaving so much behind since there was only 2 of us. We loved the food though and my daughter loved the coconut race.

We are doing WC again this trip because we love the Wilderness Lodge and will miss it! We stayed there last time. We are not doing O'Hana this trip since it is onyl 2 of us and we want to try other places.

Both choices are good ones! Don't wait to long to book O'Hana's though!

I would not pick Ohana or Whispering Canyon Cafe!
Instead of Ohana, I'd just get a before dinner drink at the Polynesian, walk around, then have dinner at one of the Grand Floridian restaurants. Instead of WCC, I'd just stay at whatever park I was at and eat there.

Ohana -- Went in 2009 for dinner and gave it a 2nd chance in 2010... Was good in 2009, just awful in 2010. Food did not taste good, was barely warm. The skewer meats were OK, but the shrimp still not deveined. We waited FOREVER to get seated. 20+ minutes just to check-in, an hour to be seated. Many people report this problem. While some have been seated promptly, to me... it's not worth rolling the dice. The food is not worth it. They do 2 things inside - coconut pushing with a broom and a little parade with maracas. Both boring and annoying...

Better Alternative? Go to the Spirit of Aloha show and get category 1 or 2 seating. Better yet... Eat somewhere else. Just visit the Polynesian at 6pm and watch the Tiki Welcome Ceremony (6pm on nights when they have Spirit of Aloha) -- it's a brief appearance by the fire juggler from the show... have a drink, and walk on the beach.

Whispering Canyon Cafe -- Been here twice too. Fatty, fatty ribs. Yuck. Food was just OK. Not worth the trip. Go to Artist Point or just skip Wilderness Lodge and go somewhere else.

I like whispering canyon. I've been there for breakfast, it is OK. I've been there for lunch or dinner three or four times, I've always had the skillet.

Here's the thing. The idea of whispering canyon is better than the reality of whispering canyon. I love wilderness lodge, I love being in there, and I always want to go to whispering canyon and I enjoy it. The antics are OK, but I'm not crazy about them or anything. The bbq is really only passable. The ribs are over done really, they cook them at too high of a heat so they tend to be dry and toughish. The pulled park is fair enough; but it tends to be greasy. Honestly, I think they poor the drippings from the pork back over it so it will be moist. The beef briskit tends towards the dry side and isn't really remarkable. The chicken is mostly harmless, it is good for what it is, but it is pretty much just chicken.

I can't say that I've ever had "bad" service at the canyan or 'ohana. I've had one time at 'ohana with less than great service, and a couple of times with really great service, but usually it is just fine. Some cousins are probably better than others I guess. I like the food at 'ohana better frankly. The shrimp trends towards the dry side, the beef can be overcooked sometimes and that makes it tough if you are unlucky enough to get it overcooked. I like the pork and turkey. The sauces make it though. Oh, the wings, pot stickers, etc., the side items, I like those better at 'Ohana.

I had two glasses of whispering canyon chocolate milk shake the day before yesterday. It was fine. I like the bread pudding better at 'ohana as far as my sweet tooth goes.

Coconut races vs. pony races. My son said he loves them both, my daughter said she preferred coconut races, but the truth is I'd say she has lots of fun with the pony races. I like the music with the race better at 'ohana myself.

Whispering canyon has beer that I would rather have; the only beer I really like at 'ohana is the kona longboard ale. I like sierra nevada and a couple of others at the canyon. But at 6-7 bucks a bottle I'm not that impressed by either really. You know, straight up its pretty much a wash.

The wait. The lincoln logs at the canyon and the lobby of the lodge probably wins this to me, but it is a comfortable place to wait at 'ohana and there is always a server walking through serving tropical drinks so that is nice.

I've been to the spirit of aloha show, but honestly to me it is not a repeat kind of thing to do that often like just eating at 'ohana is.

And yes, of course artist point is better than whispering canyon. Of course. But that's not apples and oranges. Heck, for bbq you'd be much better off going to sonny's bbq and getting all you can eat for 12 bucks over the food at the canyon.

Overall, I'd go hands down 'Ohana. No question at all, not even close.

Ohana is a must do for us each trip!! I would definitely do Ohana, especially if you have never been!

Ohana is a must do for us each trip! The food is pretty good, but we just love the happy vibe of the place.... and the Lapu Lapu ;)

Ohana, without question. WC has a back room which is very nice. We had a table near the fireplace. You do have to request it.
