Ohana tonight- we're done

We are another family that used to love going to Ohana. It was a must do for us. The last two times, the food was DRY and SALTY. We have now given it up and go other places to spend our money on. It will be a great experience for people who have never been there, but for us the quality of the food has gone down too much for us to return. By people still booking here, it keeps the places I want to go to open for ADR.:cool1::rotfl:

We were there in December and the noodles are definitely different (in a bad way). However, I loved their salad, potstickers and meat. They were very late on our ressie time but my kids loved the coconut broom racing and that (for them) made up for the tardiness.

We are going back in November and will give it another shot.

We ate there tonight and it was good. We entered with trepidation after reading so many negative reviews. We were seated pretty quickly but back by the kitchen so I was a little worried. But once they got started everything was fine. Our cousin, Maurice was great. The food arrived at a better pace than it usually does, ie slower. The steak was medium rare and tender, the pork was a little dry and the shrimp was great. The lettuce wraps were a new one for us and ok but unnecessary. The wings were not as good as they usually are. People were commenting on the noodles but ours were really good with lots of flavor. DH's favorite were the dumplings which we had them bring again. And of course the bread pudding.....omgggg....so good. We were quite pleased with the whole experience. We have probably been 10 or more times and we havent had a bad experience yet.

I've never been but kind of confused by ohana. Everyone either raves about it or hates it. Doesn't seem to be a medium. I am hoping its good when I go in November. Does anyone know how late they seat you with a ressie at 9.30

I'm actually a bit worried myself. Reading all of the negative experiences on the DIS is making me question whether or not we should eat there. I'm noticing that either people are entirely for O'Hana, or completely against it - there's never really anything in the middle. I've never been so I figured we'd give it a shot on our next trip.

My biggest concern is that our reservation is for 9:15pm (that's the only one available) and I keep reading that the later the night gets, the worse the wait/food can be. So I'm looking for opinions....is that too late for a reservation and will we potentially get terrible service and food since it will be towards the end of the night? It's our last dinner meal for our trip as we leave the next day...

We went in feb and our ADR was for 830. Was the best meal of our 10 day trip hands down. The food was delicious and the atmosphere is amazing. I've heard many bad reviews but we are still going to go again when we head back to the world in December. I have a 7pm ADR for dec 13th our first night. Fingers are crossed that its good!! With that said every restaurant has bad reviews... I don't think I would give something up that we loved just because someone else didn't like it.

We have a 5:30 reservation in December. We've never been to Ohana. I am now reconsidering... I was really looking forward to trying it, especially since it's an easy ride over from the GF. Our favorite restaurants are at World Showcase, but didn't want to go over there again! Aggh!

we do not like ohana at all. We had horrible service, the food was cold and it all tasted so nasty. we will give breakfast a try but we are done with dinner. Id rather go to Hollywood and vine!

I'm sorry that you had a bad time/meal. We used to love Ohana. I really liked the chicken, it was probably my favorite. Thinking back I don't think I have ever had an ok meal there. It was either really good, or really, really bad. Sometimes we felt rushed, sometimes we didn't. Sometimes the food was great, and sometimes it just wasn't good. :confused3

I've just read the whole thread and have come to this conclusion: 'Ohana is incredibly inconsistent alternating between burnt and cold food with flavorful, delicious dishes served promptly with a big smile. And they say there's no gambling on Disney property. :)

I'm with the OP on this one. We are in no hurry to return there. Went in November and that was enough. There are far better places to dine with exceptional service. Ohana is right up there with LeCellier as an overrated restaurant, in our opinion. Le Cellier is much easier to get into now a days and soon enough, the same will happen with Ohana... I've been reading many bad reviews lately from recent guests.

IMO, it will only happen, if Ohana starts charging 2 TS credits. At the moment, it's all you can eat meat for 1 TS credit. That appeals to many & lots of people are much more concerned with quantity than quality. If they ever changed to 2 TS, the demand would drop dramatically. There will be many who now say they would never go to WDW w/o eating there changing their tunes quickly. Le Cellier went from the darling of the DIS to the resident whipping boy simply by changing the number of TS credits required.

it's interesting to read this review. the last time i was at the poly we tried ohana. it was the reservation i was most looking forward to. now this was a while ago, but i cannot tell you how disappointed we were. the biggest and most serious complaint was that the skewered poultry came around severely undercooked. it was such a concern that we did call the manager over to have a look and her expression said it all. someone could have gotten ill from the food that night and i hope no one did. again, this was several years ago. i am thinking about planning another trip to wdw and i was actually just speaking with dh about this recently. i wondered if we were to ask them to make sure the meat is thoroughly cooked when we are seated if that would make a difference. it's such a shame because i love the theme of the poly and the concept of ohana is so great. why oh why can't they serve consistently decent food there? would love to hear others thoughts on this.

We had a not so great experience in March...daughter found a black hair in her noodles...we asked for and received a fresh batch but then chef came over and told her it was a piece of saffron from the seasoning...Really??? Definitely was a hair...I know this could happen at any restaurant. Would have appreciated an apology instead of an insulting explanation...

Very true! And I always say how shocked I am that Disney hasn't turned it over to a 2 credit meal yet. But it really happened for Le Cellier when they also made lunch 2 credits too. They could have kept lunch at 1 credit, but I think it hurt them in the end.

Unfortunately for me, this is DH's favorite restaurant. I used to enjoy it too, but they've chiseled away at all my favorites over the years. Anyone else remember the shrimp wontons and potatoes from way back? The removal of the chicken is the last straw for me, but we still have it on our itinerary for December for DH. I'm hoping they will see the error of their ways and at least bring back some kind of poultry by then.

I get the same impression about Ohana. So much love and so much hate.

I agree with the poster who said it seems to be an incredibly inconsistent place to dine. We went during Christmas this past year and had a wonderful dinner and an awesome server. It was one of (if not the) favorite meal of our whole trip.
