As many have reported, and I confirmed with Disney customer service, those using the dining plan to eat at 'Ohanas no longer get to select a dessert, instead they provide you with pineapple and a carmel dipping sauce.
To me, I don't find this acceptable as the dessert we paid for in our plan is not satisfactory since there are those that do not like pineapple and/or carmel and I don't believe you should be forced into 1 specific item. I believe there should be some type of variety to provide options. Possibly different fruits and/or dipping sauces.
Well, I sent a email to Disney with my conern, they responded verifying that the restaurant was serving the pineapple as the dessert and you had to purchase any of the other desserts. I replied that I didn't believe this was fair to those who did not care for pineapple and would, in essence, miss out on that portion of the meal (which was already paid for). Within an hour, I received a phone call from a lady named Yolanda, she was VERY nice and wanted to let me know they were addressing this concern and had placed several calls to the restaurant manager and were waiting for a return call. She indicated that the restaurants are usually very flexible and would likely offer a substitute; however, I told her that I had read online (from you guys/gals) that this wasn't the case.
She indicated that she would followup on this and let me know something asap, but it might not be before I leave for my vacation (tomorrow morning at 9am). She pulled up my reservation information and noted my cell number so that she could call me while I was there (or leave me a voicemail).
Hopefully they will address this and come up with a reasonable solution.
I'll post the results as they come in (or when I get back).
