Ohana recent negative news

I thought it was fine. I would not eat the beef again - if I can't cut it I can't chew it - but there was plenty to eat other than beef. It's not excellent, but it's decent food and lots of it, if you like that sort of food. I could go there again and eat nothing but wings and pork dumplings and bread pudding (okay, a few shrimp too). Service was kind of "off," two servers served our table, didn't catch their names but we nicknamed them Surly and Frantic.

I agree the beef was tough maybe not done enough for me, but DW liked it and everything else was good, wings, turkey, shrimp, I think there was pork and a great desert. I think this is a place where the more in your party the more fun it is. There were long tables in the center maybe 20-30 people, I don't know if these were large parties or maybe in the center they sit you togetherlike the Luau?

As far as I know Ohana does not seat different parties together so you must have seen large parties.

We've eaten at Ohana many times in the past - in 2005, 2006, the food and service were excellent.

On more recent trips, we noticed the decline in quality, taste and service. In fact, my DH spoke to the manager on our exit - as two servers were openly and loudly complaing about a guest who'd only left 15% tip. If that table had a similar service experience as we did, I'd say they were lucky to get 15%. We literally had to beg for water, asked for our salad and wings and reminded the server we did want dessert before leaving. Pretty much he was too preoccuiped chatting with his colleagues, and all his tables in our area were all having the same reaction. I know people can have bad nights, but it was exceptionally horrid.

This trip, as agreed we'd pass on Ohana and give the Biergarten a try. I figure there are so many restaurant choices, maybe taking a break then going back to Ohana next year is perhaps the best choice.

Everyone has different tastes and experiences - I always think it's best to try for yourself, and see what happens :wizard:

We've only been to 'Ohana once; that was last February. The meats were a little too tough and dry for us, but we loved everything else. So we decided that the next time we're there we'll just ask for the shrimp. There's so much other food we certainly won't go hungry. And our two servers were fabulous (as was every server we had that trip). As pps have said, you have to make up your own mind because we all have our own taste and standards of what makes good service.

That's funny because the last time we ate there we decided that next time we would skip all of the skewers except for the beef which we enjoyed.

Our family has no problem filling up on the appetizers and dessert. Heck, we could fill up on Bread Pudding alone.:rotfl2:

We ate there in August and the service was really bad. Our waitress (who wasn't busy - it was torrentially raining and half the tables were empty) was very unenthusiastic and would disappear for long periods of time. The meat was really charred. Not a yummy-cooked-over-an-open-fire char. It was more like there was one bite of edible meat in each chunk. We were disappointed. During our previous visits, everything was so good. I agree that it's going down-hill.

We were there in August and I thought it was horrible. I have never felt so rushed. I put a bit from one course, and the next course was out. The noodles and the dumplings weren't any thing I coudln't have gotten at Trader Joe's. The meat was either dry or fatty, and the shrimp was mushy. I regret not trying to get my money back. To top it off we weren't in the main room. It was our first night at Disney and the worst meal!

I made a dinner ADR after reading some rave reviews on the DIS, I didn't care for it at all except for the dessert which was yummy. My DH hated it and asked me to never book a dinner there again. I'm a food snob because I went to culinary school but I really thought that my DH would like endless meat skewers because he is non-fussy total carnivore.

We love Ohana! We ate there twice last week during our Thanksgiving stay. We ask for steak and shrimp skewers only. We had one skewer come to us that was a little cold, but it's not a problem because you can simply ask for more.

Our waiters, both nights, were a little slow with the service, but we were ready to kick back and take it slow and easy for dinner, so it worked out nicely. We asked for a third helping of the bread pudding, so don't be afraid to ask for what you want!

We love Ohana, too! It's a favorite in our family, particularly the salad, appetizers and dessert. Our most recent trip was in February 09, and we definitely plan to return.

We've always had great experiences at Ohana! The service has always been great and I've always enjoyed the food. I've never really understood the show that they put on for the kids, but we always kind of ignore it as our party always consists of adults.

We are eating there in a few weeks. Our ressie is 7 pm since the fireworks are at 8. I heard it was a good place to watch the fireworks?

We have eaten at Ohana many times and love it....yes we have had different experiences.......sometimes felt rushed, had an undercooked piece of meat, poor service, sloppey service
AND, I have had all those things at other restaurants too.....

BUT, I would never let those minor things ruin my trip to the world.....We will be there next Sat. night with a large group of people....we will see how it goes!!!!

Here is one of my screen savers for my desktop, kind of lets you know how I feel about Ohana!!!

Yes, its a good place to watch fireworks....depending on your table location....they do have some tables that are not close to the windows......other tables might have an obstructed view.....you never know where you will be seated.....please remember everybody wants a table against the glass during this time......

Also, IMO your ressie is almost too early.....we have been in and out in 40 minutes before.....it all depends on if you are seated around 7 or not.......keep in mind everyone is trying to do the same thing you are.....if you are done with dinner they prob. will be trying to rush you out for the next group.....

ENJOY

We were there last Tuesday for the second time. We definitely liked it less this time. The table we were first given was one of the worst in the restaurant IMO, but when we asked we were moved, so that's positive.
The food was not as good as last time either. The shrimp and starters were fantastic but the entree meat was a little tough and there were a few ocassions when we had to request more skewers as the servers didn't walk with them through the restaurant as much as last time. We were also disappointed with the noodles - the scalloped potatoes were far better.
Also the restaurant is beginning to look worn and a bit dirty.
It seems perhaps it's not as popular as it was previousy, as we ate at 6.30pm and by 7pm the place was half empty :confused3
Personally I quite enjoyed the meal - the banana bread pudding was superb!!
As the other members in my party didn't enjoy it as much, I don't think we'll be going back next time

It has always been one of our favourite restaurants. However, this past August, we thought the service was very lacking and some of the meats were a bit overdone. We usually go here twice a trip. For this upcoming trip, I only planned for one.

We had breakfast there this past summer and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was very very good. We liked it just fine. We thought the portions were very generous and the food was just as good as anything you could find at any of the buffet restaurants. We've never tried Ohana's for lunch or dinner so I can't comment on the quality of those meals.

My experience with Ohana is that it is very good or very bad. I have never found them to have a happy medium.

I have eaten there a bazillion times over the years.
