Hello friends

We grabbed a last minute reservation at Ohana this past Monday and it was sub par. I will say the atmosphere and the wait staff were stellar, a definite 10 plus. The food is a different story.

The bread was good with the honey butter, and the salad was good. The chicken was very soft and chewy. It did not have a firm texture as you would think chicken would have. Same with steak. Oh my gosh it was chemically tenderized with a lot of gristle. Low quality steak that was also soft and not firm. It was NOT good at all. The shrimp were large but had a fishy taste. It shouldn’t have any type of fish smell at all. Noodles were noodles they were ok. Pot stickers were ok. Now the dessert was delicious. The wait staff were very friendly, very customer oriented and just outstanding. The atmosphere was beautiful. The price too was expensive for what you get. I would not recommend this place. We found Diamond Horse Shoe Review much better and they had 40 percent off.

Just my two cents. Hope everyone has a magical day.

Very accurate rating, this place is nothing like it used to be. Very expensive and the food is of a lower quality. Like you said the dessert is the best part of the meal...not to mention they will have you in and out in about 45 mins !!!
Yes! They do you want you in and out. It’s definitely not a leisurely dining experience. It’s a shame because we love the Polynesian and the atmosphere there.

Went a few years ago after Covid, the meat was meh to very low quality but enjoyed the bread, noodles, pot stickers, and dessert very much. I can't eat any of that now because I have to be GF so I'll probably never return. DH misses it though because he really likes the drink in a pineapple. He says he knows he's on vacation when he's drinking alcohol out of a piece of fruit :rotfl:.

I agree that it is very much overrated. Had a similar experience last year. Best part of the experience was being sat next to the window so we could look out to the pool and water (and the castle far off in the distance haha). It's a one and done for us.

Agree. O'hana used to be a must do every trip. We had bad experiences twice, once the server brought out the hot towels and the check before the hot appetizers even arrived, totally rushed us. Food was not good at all, and not for the price. Steak was almost inedible due to being tough and so much fat, the shrimp were weird tasting, and even the noodles were mushy and lukewarm- that was the final straw! So no more.

Good to know. I just made a reservation for our September trip, but I'm balking a bit at that price tag. This gives me a good reason to cancel.

Agree. We ate here in April and again at beginning of July and some aspects are excellent but the meat is trash. Cheapest versions they can serve. I don't think we will be back until the meat quality improves. It's just too much for such intolerable meat. Everything else is good.

Ohana hasn't been good for at least a decade, maybe even longer. If I'm going to eat at the Polynesian, I'll chose Kona but even that has been meh at best lately.
Ohana was a one and done deal for us. The service was delightful for the first part of our meal, and then we were completely ignored. Food was grossly over salted, meat tough, and noodles cool to the touch. My favourite part of the meal was the salad dressing and I ended up pouring it on everything in an attempt to improve the flavours. Dessert was nice but I’d never go back for that single item.

We had managed to snag our reservation just a few days in advance. When we arrived, I inquired with very faint hope about getting a window table. It was 5 pm. I was told they were reserved. OK. Understandable. However, they were nearly all empty when we walked in and remained that way throughout our time there. In truth, the place was only about 1/3 occupied at best. Everyone could have had a window seat, I think!

The comment on Kona Cafe resonated with me, too. We LOVED our first and second dinners we had there, but the third scared us away forever. Menu is nowhere near as appealing now, either. I had been thinking hard about going there for breakfast this December as we had been Tonga Toast lovers. Again, even that treat had slipped terribly in quality the last time (2021) that we were there. So much so that my DD politely declined my suggestion to give it another try.

I would never cancel based on someone else's opinion especially on this board(ridiculously over critical most of the time with food). It's just information so you can have a clear expectation going in. You may love the food, the atmosphere and make it a go to for your family.

My wife a I enjoy watching the some of the food vlogs before our vacation but solely for what the food looks like and to get an idea what it tastes like. I would never skip out on something because someone said "it would just skip this one" not a chance.

Yea they tried that with us. We were eating one course and the assistance waiter came over and was like “ok let’s make room for this next dish” or something similar and I said no and told him we are still enjoying this course.

I have a feeling that I’m in the strong minority of people who ever do that, but I can’t stand when places course stack me

But sometimes people have to decide between different things

I'm hearing these lukewarm reviews from many, and for the price they're asking, I'm sure I could do better elsewhere.

If you want to be in and out within 45 minute than maybe going to a 4ish course dinner isn’t for you
No, it depends on the meal you're being served. 'Ohana is a glorified buffet—food is all premade and basically the same. I’d expect to be in and out in under an hour without feeling rushed. I don’t usually feel the need to sit and eat for hours, so no, I don’t generally go to traditional four-course meals—but 'Ohana is definitely not that.

Of course, I just wouldn't not take another person's taste pallet for a reason to cancel or book a reservation.
