I'll post this on the restaurants board too, but . . .

Tell me about Ohana. Should I take my crew of myself, dw, 4 dd's (11, 9, 7, & 6 when we go) and 17 year old babysitter? Will everyone enjoy it? I've read about an "alternative children's menu". What is it, and how much $$$? I can't see spending $12 each for my 7 & 6 year olds to eat 2 bites of steak and 4 green beans! Give me your advice.

Ohana is a great meal, maybe one of the best I have ever had. However, when we went back this past summer with a 7 year old, we chose not to go. Money is a little tight, and she wouldn't eat much there. (She is a picky eater!) We just had to enjoy different food from the counter-service type places. We did enjoy Columbia Harbor House a lot!

We have taken our DD (10) to Ohana many times. She loves it! They have games fo the kids like coconut races and hula hoop contests. DD doesn't eat off the regular menu so they offered choices from the childrens menu at the Kona Cafe. Overall it is a fun place for kids and the food is delicious.

I'm assuming when they offered choices from the children's menu at the Kona Cafe, you paid the children's menu price, not the $11.99 Ohana price. Is this right?

We were there last A week ago this past Monday. My DD is 6 she had a great time, she loved the sticky rice, the pineapple bread, Honey Corriander chicken wings and the Turkey in the main course. The desert is fresh pineapple with warm caramel sauce to dip in and she couldn't get enough of it.

Hope this helps

Dave

LOVED Ohana. Excellent food for the adults. Fun enough atmosphere for the kids. And my kids wouldn't eat the "real" food either. they didn't even show us a "kids" menu, just asked what they would eat. One had mac n cheese one had pb&j. And no, we did not have to pay the full kids price for them. I can't remember how much it was, but it wasn't near the $11.99 you're talking about.

Ohana is one of my favorite family meal experiences...we'll definitely do it again!

I love Ohana's. My brother who was 23 at the time, I was 19, my mom and dad went. My dad doesn't like anything unusual but he loved the food. The atmosphere is great and there was hardly anyone when we went. They bring out bowls of different kinds of food for everyone at the table to share and then someone comes around with the meats for everyone at the table and they carve how much you want. We had a great time with the coconut races and it is a great time. Also, we always ask if we could possibly have a window seat when we check in so we can have a view of MK. The pineapple with caramel sauce is a delicious dessert! All of the kids seemed to have a great time that were there. I'm sure you'll have a blast!

'Ohana is a must-do for us on every trip. My 8-year-old loves it, but my 14-year-old and 4-year-old don't really care for the food, but we all love the atmosphere. We never order off a menu for them -- they practically live on burgers or chicken fingers while at WDW and they just order something along those lines. It's never been a problem.

Uh, we had the pay the O'hana price for DS.... think he got grilled cheese. It seems to be hit or miss as to whether or not you pay the O'hana price for alternative food - people here on the boards have reported both results.

Wow, I don't think I'd be very happy paying $11.99 for a grilled cheese!

My 2 kids, as I mentioned above, never eat the 'Ohana meal and always get something else. We have never been charged the 'Ohana price for their meals. (Not doubting you PlutoPony, just relating my experience! :)

Sometimes the inconsistencies can be frustrating...

We love 'Ohanas. It is our favorite restaurant on the property. You will love it, and your kids will love it.

When it comes to alternative food for the kids, that is an option. My 5yr old had a hamburger and my 13 month old had grilled cheese. They are very accomodating to kids which makes me love this place even more!!!!

Go, Go, Go!!!!

Ohana's is such a fun meal! We love it and it seems that even the pickiest of kids like the food. But you know your kids best and what they like. Have fun on your trip :sunny:

We had a similar experience. I think the Ohana staff know that there are many picky eaters out there. We knew the kids wouldn't go for the menu, so we just asked if we could order some mac n cheese. They brought some right out and didn't charge Ohana price for their meals. They were very accomodating just as other posters mentioned.

This is a silly question. But do they hula there? My dd has seen pictures of ds doing the hula in the old luau dinner show (before she was born). And she wants to hula at Disney. Any suggestions?

Kids will love it. No doubt. I'm a 16 year old male, and the 17 year old babysitter might find it a little too childish... but the food is so good, it doesn't matter to me. And the atmosphere is still fun, no matter what your age.

Its a must.

Its good after a day at MK. Just hop on the resorts monorail

The Polynesian does have a luao (sp?) dinner show but not at Ohana's. At the dinner show they select several people to go up on the stage and hula. The food's not the best but it is a good show. At Ohana's they have a coconut race and a hula hooping contest.

ohhh I love Ohana's :) It is a must do every trip this past trip I took pictures of all of the food so I could explain it to my non-disney friends (who thought it looked tasty!). I was just telling a co-worker today who was eating gummy worms about the coconut races and that the kids got gummy worms for thier prize.

I'm not sure. I THINK we paid the $11.99.

Unbelievable! I expect to pay more for things when I am at WDW, and I don't mind splurging a little when we're on vacation, but if I got charged $11.99 for mac & cheese or a pb & j, I think I would s#@*!

So is there a way to politely request the lower price is for the kids' meal? Is it also correct that children under 3 are free?
