Ohana, potatoes are back??

I keep saying this...take the menues with a grain of salt(pun intended)

We found many of the menues out of date (or just plain wrong), whatever you want to call it. Just because a menu says Potatoes doesn't mean it's there...you can hope, but that's all. Cuz we found even the menues that claimed to be updated within a month or two of our trip were wrong. For example, the Cali Grill menu on AllEars net says it was updated 4/08...we went in 5/08 and I can tell you several items on the posteed menu were not on the menues we saw. A couple of the fish dishes on the main entrees list were completely different, as were 2 of the desserts. You'd think a 4/08 menu would be current just a month later, but there you go...

I will be curious to see which is served in September...we're eating 'Ohana for the first time, so have not experience with either the potatoes or the noodles. I do know I've been watching all the recent reviews for the restaurants on our ADR list...every recent review of 'Ohana I've seen has referred to noodles, not potatoes. (reviews from May, June & early July-right on the AllEars page with the menu...click on the "reviews" line near the top. There's even a review from July 7 which talks about the noodles.)
CA Grill changes their menu frquently, (maybe even daily,) whereas Ohana changes theirs once every few years. Still I agree with you, I won't really believe that the potatoes are back until I read some reviews saying they are.

Am I the only person on the planet that hates the potatoes? When we had them a couple of years ago, they were a disgusting mess of greasy, cold, slimy mush.

We had the noodles in May and thought they were fantastic. They were flavorful, bright, and tasty. My girls couldn't get enough of them and they fit so much better for the theme.

I feel the same way as you do about the potatoes. I absolutely loved the noodles. I feel that they went better with the meal than the potatoes do. The potatoes just seemed out of place. They would go better with a meal with southern flare than Polynesian.

I've heard that... but Cali grill was just an easy example...we also found the same kind of differences on several of the Allears menues...the CRT menu was incorrect, the Garden Grille menu was incorrect. I just now looked at the CRT menu again. It looks correct now (for what was offered in May, anyway! Guess I don't really know if that's what they're serving in July!:rotfl:)

And we found differences on more than one site - it's not just an Allears issue. I suspect some people may report things to these sites from "memory" and they may not quite be remembering exactly where they had what.

Personally, we enjoyed the food that was at the restaurants, so the discrepancies didn't make much difference to us. Just don't want people to get their hopes up over a menu that may or may not be correct.

We leave for Disney on Sat. and have a 7:00 ADR for O'hana on Sunday night.:cool1: I'll let you know if we have the potatoes.!!

I go Aug 7 and they better still have the noodles!! As a vegetarian I felt that it gave me more options for my "main course" type thing at Ohana since I don't eat meat. :(

I think they update their menus base on when people bring back updated ones from vacation, so some of them haven't been updated for a very long time indeed!

I know when I ate at Flying Fish the menu was dated with that day's date, so my guess is their menu printed new every day, so even if All Ears had Flying Fish's menu updated yesterday, it would already be out of date.

I don't concern myself with the menus too much either, I read through them, and read reviews, and decide where I like to eat, and I even go as far as deciding what I'd like to order, but if I go and it's off the menu, it doesn't bother me. Sometimes the new menu is even more appealing to me.

I shouldn't say none of the changes bother me though, some do, and it's always with the CS changes it seems. I was bummed when I heard Tusker House was changing, since that was one of my favorite CS on property. And when Fountainview went from a nice bakery-type place to a boring old ice cream place I was shocked. I was also upset when CHH stopped serving the New England clam chowder in a bread bowl, and am majorly bummed over the change to Figaro fries, they just aren't the same anymore.

But either way I'd be okay with either potatoes or noodles, and neither one of them would make me cancel my ADR. The noodles I haven't had before, but would like to try, and the potatoes I love, so I obviously don't have a problem eating them. :goodvibes

Thats cool, we leave saturday as well and have a 7:30 for sunday night. Just may bump into a fellow dis'er. Hope the potatoes are there by then, really looking forward trying them, if not I'm sure the noodles are great anyway.

YEAH!!!! We have a reservation for October, can't wait it was our favorite meal last year..;)

So glad I saw this thread because I had NO IDEA that they had replaced the potatos! I have the recipe and even make monthly batches at home...of course, never exactly the same, but close enough to bring us back to the Poly for a bite or two!!! Hope they are back in a month because we are eating there then! They had changed the recipe last Aug. when we were there and it was more of a cheesy potato...good, but not the same.

I'm eating there tomorrow night (Thursday) at 9:20pm so I will report back when I get home tomorrow! Hoping for potatoes! *fingers crossed*
