Ohana sounds like a really fun and good dinner. It looks like it would give everyone a real good meal and keep the kids (My Nephew is 4 and niece is 6) entertained.

How is it for food or fun. Does it have some of the same food as the Kona Cafe. We found the Kona Cafe to be pretty good.

Thanks

We really enjoyed O'Hana's. They have grilled meats, which they bring to your table hot off the grill. (Shrimp, steak, pork and turkey). You get an appetizer platter on the table with salad, rice, won-tons etc. For dessert you get fresh pineapple with caramel dipping sauce. You can also order off a dessert menu.If the kids dislike the food they are permitted to order off the Kona children's menu. The kids games were ok as well. We had a waiter that was a little over the top--I think we would have enjoyed it more if we had a little less of him! The kids played coconut races and hula hoops, they were all given gummy worms.

We found the appetizer platter to be excellent. The meats on skewers...just ok. I ended up with some very tough pieces...maybe just not cooked enough. We don't think we will give it another try.

On our last visit everything was WONDERFUL! The appetizers were great, the meats grilled to perfection, the kids had a great time doing the coconut races and hula hoop contest... and if you get a window seat, the view of the MK is spectacular.

If you kids don't like what is offered, request that they order from the kids menu at Kona Cafe.

We found Ohanas to be a great place. After eating for days at lunch counters in the parks, ohanas was a welcomed rest. We sat down near the window and had an excellent view. We were a party of eight including 4 children under the age of 10. The kids ordered off of the kids menu and the adults had the regular dinner. We ate enough to feed an army!!! The dessert also looked great but we were way to full to even try!!

;) I can not say enough good things about Ohana's. We ate there the first night of our first trip to WDW!:p :p The food was WONDERFUL!! Best food of our Disney trip. Loved the grilled shrimp and everything else they brought to our table. The pinapple and caramel dipping sauce was a great end to our meal. Our DD had Chicken nuggets and fries and they had no problem bringing that to her.;)

DD loved the coconut races and we were seated with a view of Cinderella's castle. When the fireworks started they dimmed the lights and piped in the music!!

It was a great way to start our vacation. We are heading back April 30 and are planning another dinner at Ohanas!!

LOVED IT!

We love Ohana's too and make it a point to eat there each trip. The food is good and fresh and the kids love the games.

Been there twice - loved it both times - I'd go back again in a minute!!;)

'Ohana is one of the few must-do's every trip we go. Even though our next trip will just be a 2 day weekend - we are eating dinner at 'Ohana because everyone loves to eat there. The kids love the games, they eat the meat real well, I did ask for plain rice for my daughter who loves white rice and was accomodated. I also believe that if you think you r kids won't eat the 'Ohana fare, that they can get something from the Kona kids menu.

Everyone has different definitions of tough. The steak is not fliet mignon melt-in-your-mouth, but I liked it well as did everyone is my party last time we were there.

The only thing less than stellar was that last time around the shrimp was seasoned a little more spicy than I remembered. Not bad, mind you, just more spicy than I remembered.

Do it. You'll love it.

I don't think the food at Ohana compares at all to Kona. Kona is a sit-down restaurant with a menu, where Ohana is an all-you-can eat place. Also, the problem with Ohana, is if you're in the section closer to the front of the restaurant, you're VERY far from all the activities and an adult has to interupt their meal to take the child to participate. Also, I didn't like the food at Ohana, it just wasn't my taste, but Kona is to DIE FOR!!!! It's one of my favorites on WDW property!!!

I'm with the majority-Ohana's tops our list of must do places to eat on every trip! The appetizer platter is wonderful and the grilled meats are delicious. The shrimp is my all time favorite!!! Can't get enough!! :teeth: You can bet we'll be back there on our next trip!

I love 'Ohanas - it's a real meat-feast delight for me, LOL. From the yummy appetisers to the delish Pineapple and hot caramel, it's a winner :)

I agree with sitting next to the window - they are great big panoramic things...very cool, especially if it coincides with the MK fireworks or the Electrical Water Pageant.

My wife and I went last summer and loved it. I can't wait to take my son the "meat lover" to try them out.

We frequent Ohana. I agree that the appetizers are superior to the smoked meats, but they'll bring as much of anything you want, so it's all good. Before you order dessert, try the pineapple and carmel--it will satisfy your sweet tooth and it's part of the meal.

We went to Ohana's the first night of our vacation last May. DD9 wasn't feeling very well which may have altered our view of things a bit, but not much. We had a lovely window table which was nice. Our experience with the dinner was not what we had expected. The steak was tough, so tough that I, the meat lover, couldn't chew it. The shrimp was spicy...and what a mess having to peel them with all that sauce on them. (I did like the flavor, but no one else did) The pork was ummmm, just sort of there. BUT, we all loved the Turkey! It was very yummy.
I would also give a HUGE thumbs up to the pineapple with the caramel dipping sauce! YUUUUUUMMMMMMYYYY! Use the sauce! Also, we ordered two of the desserts off the menu. The coconut snowball thingy and a raspberry something. I can't remember off the top of my head, but it was sort of like a cheesecake. We mentioned that we were going to split the desserts and our "cousin" (waitress) delivered the desserts with 6 spoons...and she made sure to make a big deal about the spoons. Very funny.
None of my kids would participate in the events. My dd2 would have done the coconut rolling, I think, but she had just gone for a walk with Dad when they started it. They got back just as it was ending. She did see the kids getting the gummy worms and couldn't talk about anything else until she had a gummy worm. Our "cousin" brought not one, but an entire PLATEFUL of gummy worms!!! (which DD2 rationed out sparingly to her brother and sisters, keeping most for herself! )
Ohana's for us was a unique experience, but we will probably not go back any time soon. Try it, everyone seems to have a different opinion. We just didn't care for it, mostly.

Lisa :D

I'll throw in my opinion. I liked the atmosphere but the food was not anything great. I DEFINITELY prefer Kona's. They have much better food IMHO.

Here is my review excerpted from my soon-to-be-released book "The Luxury Guide to Walt Disney World":

Although I’m not a fan of all-you-can-eat meals or Polynesian food, I certainly liked Ohana. Everything was more than pleasing and simply a hoot. The huge dining room is pleasant with batik fabric ceilings, banana-shaped upholstered rattan chairs, and torch-lit Tiki gods, and the massive picture windows offer fantastic views of the Seven Seas Lagoon, the Magic Kingdom fireworks, and the Electrical Water Pageant. Its focal point is the 18-foot, semi-circular fire pit where 3-foot skewers of marinated meat are grilled for the evening meal. Miraculously, given the amount of meat flaming away on the grill, nothing was overcooked or dry. Each evening brings entertainment in the guise of coconut races, hula-hoop contests, and ukulele music. Adults looking forward to a quiet meal should arrive after 9 PM when the hullabaloo is over or request a seat in the side dining room away from the action. Breakfast is a family-style feast with Mickey, Goofy, Chip, and Dale dressed in Polynesian regalia.
Tip: Request a window seat when making your priority seating and re-request it on arrival.

We ate at Ohana last Wednesday, and was very disappointed. It was the worst meal of our trip. The appetizers were good, but the meat was very tough. I don't mind spicy food, but the shrimp I had was too spicy to eat, and what a mess trying to peel it. Our "cousin" was very inattentive. We waited 15 minutes for our pineapple and caramel sauce(sitting on a tray behind us) while she made her other tables the desserts they ordered off the dessert menu. For $90 (2 adults, 2kids) we thought it was a ridiculous price to pay for a mediocre meal. Maybe we just hit an off night, but I would never bother the eat here again. By the way, we ate at Kona Cafe for breakfast and lunch and enjoyed both meals tremendously--great food and service!!

This is our favorite place!! I've never had tough meat there, and I don't find the shrimp too spicy at all, and I don't like things very spicy, and the shrimp is just right to me. I love all the appitizers, especially the salad they have there, I love the dressing on it! And the pineapple and sauce is delicious, as is the Coconut snowball dessert! I can't wait to eat there again!

'Ohana's is wonderful. The shrimp and steap were great (could bring myself to try anything else). DH lost count of how many shrimp he ate. Must have been at least 50. The sides are really good too and the pineapple and carmel are to die for. The fun and games were great for DD and DNi. The waitress was very good and funny.
