I already have a reservation for dinner at Ohana but now I'm thinking about the Kona Cafe. Any recommendations...would you do both or is the food too much alike? If you'd only do one, which would it be? Its just DD17 and myself who will be going.

Ohana is nice but my DW thinks it's too much meat. I really wish they had some additional sides. The "entertainment" is cute but gets a little "hokey" at times - definately cute for the little kids (coconut races, signing, dancing).

I prefer Kona cafe. I love the meals and it's not as open and loud. Kona also have better dessert selection, though the one served at Ohana is tasty :)

I think they are different, Ohana is like a tropical BBQ with the different meats, dipping sauces and Kona is more "typical" if that makes sense.

We would definately prefer Kona. We use to go to Ohana every trip, but now we found the meat way to0 salty for us. The noise level for us at Ohana is too loud for us.

I have and would do both in the same trip. They are both in my top 5 favorites. This trip I'm doing Breakfast at Kona, dinner at 'Ohana. Last trip I did lunch at Kona, dinner at 'Ohana.

If you can do both, do both! O'hana is fun and if you like food brought to your table "all you care to eat", it's a great dinning experience. Personally I liked the grilled peel and eat shrimp best, but I'm a shrimp lover, so that was great for me, plus the dessert was yummy. I also liked the Kona cafe, it has a cafe vibe with more gourmet food choices. I orderd the shimp and scallop entree and it was lovely. If you all are not big eaters or are not into the buffett scene, then Kona may be more of what you are looking for.

The two are nothing alike; the only thing they share in common is that they're both at the Poly. Both are very good for very different reasons. Ohana is a fun, upbeat, and festive meal. DD17 may not want to participate in the activities which are more geared to younger children (hula contest, coconut sweep contest, etc) but it is entertaining just watching the goings-on. Food, as PPs have pointed out are meat-on-a-stick-fests; as much as you can stomach and no worse than other similar restaurants at WDW. Kona on the other hand, although it can get busy, and tables can be a bit close together, is much more relaxed and the food is excellent. In fact, I think it's one of the 2 hidden gems for dining at WDW (the other being Grand Floridian Cafe). Summary here I guess is if you're going for entertainment, go Ohana; if you're going for food, definitely KC.

Just as everyone else said, it really depends on what you are going there for. If you want a more relaxing atmosphere, then go to KC. Ohana is going to be more loud, but the atmosphere is great. Both restaraunts have delicious food :)

Well said! I'm a camper. Show me open fire and I go! Love to eat no stop um? Go Ohana and get fat like me ha ha ha ha ha the kids think I'm the coconut. Laugh and roll on da flo. It's not too loud cause I yell too. MORE BRING MORE! and they do

DOne both and prefer Ohana b/c I love the variety of foods and the atmosphere the bread, dumplings, salad, veggies, noodles, wings, grilled meats and bread pudding are all great. Next month I actually have ADR at both but KC was made simply b/c we are staying at Poly and we wanted to spend more time at our resort the first night..

Kona is nice, but we like O'hana more. TO us it is a fun place. Of course the fact that the family loves grilled meat doesn't hurt either.

I vote: Do both!!!!!
Ohana is FUN and yummy!!!! Kona is d~lish!!!! Not much of a "theme restaurant", but I must say...We had quite a few fantastic meals at Kona! My little ones like Ohana better for the "fun stuff", My hubby and I like Kona better for the selections! You will enjoy both, they really are not at all the same!

Definitely do both. I have reservations for both places for our upcoming trip. We love Ohana, plenty of food love the shrimp, meat, wings, dumplings, veggies, noodles, bread pudding w/caramel & ice, etc........... The menu at Kona also looks very very good and heard they have great desserts so we are giving that a go. We will spread out the meals of course eating at Ohana the 3rd night and Kona on the 7th night.

O'Hana and depending on the time you go you can view the fireworks from our table:cool1:

While I do enjoy both restaurants my family prefers the meals at Kona for breakfast rather than dinner. The breakfasts there very tasty. We just don't really care for the meals we have tried during dinner. 'Ohana on the other hand is great for both breakfast and dinner. If we had to choose between the two, 'Ohana would be the clear winner. We love the food (and I'm even a vegetarian) and we really like the whole experience of the meal.
