Would you book Ohana or Chef Mickey for breakfast? We love Ohana, and their food, but I’m bummed there are no characters. Chef Mickey would be fun with the characters and I think the kids would like the monorail going into the hotel. We ate there a long time ago, but they were little and they don’t remember it. I’m concerned that the food won’t be good. Kids are 8 and 12, so they like characters, but it’s not a dealbreaker.

I think you've answered your own question.

It's been several years since we ate at Chef Mickey's, but we thought the food adequate at best.

'Ohana, in contrast, has been delicious every time--by now, years of it being a must-do.

We breakfasted there twice in November and found the servers a bit more chatty, perhaps trying to fill the characters lack. We enjoyed it immensely. And the POG juice was back!

We like ohana, but the lack of characters, specifically Pluto, killed it for our upcoming trip so we went with chef mickey instead. If you want better food than chef Mickey's and with characters I would suggest topolinos. We did it last time and the food was better than chef Mickey's with pretty much the same characters. The only reason we didn't do it again was for a change and to see Pluto.

One additional thing to keep in mind is that with chef mickey pre covid you may not be sitting outside where you can see the monorail. They had inside seating where you can't see the monorail which in my opinion is actually kind of bleh although I am not sure if that has changed since covid so someone correct me if that has been closed.

We ate at Chef Mickey's 2 days ago and sadly it wasn't good. I would definitely vote for Ohana!

We love Pog juice! Glad to hear it’s still a good experience.

It’s so sad how bad it’s been for so long. It used to be a staple for us, but we haven’t been in almost a decade bcz the good wasn’t good enough to warrant the price to see the characters. We decided we’d go back when and if we heard it improve. Sad that’s it hasn’t.
We booked Obama too for breakfast. I’m not overwhelmed by the food there either, but we don’t leave hungry like we’ve done at CMs. This will be the first time we haven’t had a character meal. Given they can’t come to your table right now, that’s fine for us.

Ohana for sure. Food is much better and is more like an actual Restaurant. Chef Mickeys reminds me of a school cafeteria, and the food tastes like it too.

I just did Ohana breakfast with my DDs age 8 and 12. They LOVED it. We asked for a seat by the window and looked out at the castle. Food was great. My older daughter has a gluten sensitivity and they were SO accommodating for that, she felt really safe and special. POG juice was a HUGE hit! Pineapple bread is amazing. Service is exceptional. We haven't been to Chef Micky since 2014, but for those ages I would go Ohana all day long.

We had a blah experience at Ohana (in it's current form) and are in no hurry to return. It was my birthday, too, so it was an extra bummer.

Chef mickey's has characters and a monorail so that will always be the winner for us, but we have a toddler.

Honestly, I think the mid-level Disney restaurants have all the same breakfast food. They get it from the same suppliers, and it's all fairly mediocre.

I love the food (at breakfast in particular) at Ohana. CM was better than I expected, but I'd choose Ohana over them (unless the characters are a dealbreaker, which you said weren't).

We just back from WDW. We had brunch at O'Hana, it is amazing, delicious food. There were no characters, but we've done it 4 other times and daughter is now 16 so was ok with that. We did Chef Mickey's a few years ago, and it was only OK. Food was just ok, O'Hana food was better. I don't know if CF is doing characters yet either. FYI...I'd be more leery of a buffet right now, 2 out of 3 of us tested positive for Covid when we got home Sat night and were feeling badly. We are all triple-vaxxed. Crowds were insane last week.

Any word on the character situation at Ohana? When might they return?

Chef Mickey prior to covid was a buffet ($42 adult, $27 child) while O'hana's ($25 adult, $14 child) is family style if that makes a difference in your deciding. We don't eat large breakfasts, but have done dinner at both in the past and enjoyed them. Make sure to check the current menu for O'hana since it changed when Disney reopened after the covid shutdown. Many of the negative reviews I read about O'hana seem to be from people who didn't realize there is a limited menu. It is not the typical restaurant where you order from a menu and then wait while your dish is prepared.

Depending upon where you are staying and how much of a rush you are to get to a park might also matter. If you are staying at either Poly or Contemporary, eating at your hotel would be far more convenient if your plan is to get an early start on the parks.

Chef Mickeys is NOT back to a regular buffet. They are still bringing the skillet/items to the table family-style

I would vote for O'Hana. My kids are about the same ages and we've gone both when there were characters and without. The characters do make it a little more memorable but the food is fantastic along with the theming and atmosphere at the Polynesian.
