So Grandma and grandpa are paying an Orlando Trip in Jan.
In all party of 10.
Grandpa/ma. (ok on Disney)
Great Grandpa/ma (so so on Disney)
Adult Sister and boyfriend (take or leave Disney)
Myself, wife and our kids (3 & 1)
I say Orlando because we're staying off property because they won't pay for Disney Resort, They prefer All Star Homes (I hate it but they're paying)

We and they want to go with the Grandkids to a character breakfast.

My question is, Is Ohana good character meal to take them for breakfast?
My concern is the selection of food. It doesn't sound like there's much offered and it's family style. You don't get to choose your meal. And since there's not so hot on Disney I'm afraid they'll just complain about that. And I've heard people love it, and others hate it.
I know Chef Mickey offers great selection of food but since they are too cheap to pay for a Disney Resort I'm afriad they would freak at the cost for a breakfast.
So what do I book, Ohana, cheaper but less food?
or Chef Mickey but way more expensive?

(and I've ruled out other character breakfasts because they won't be going to the parks so those are out, and May Cafe we're saving for 10'.)

Not knowing your in-laws, I am not sure which restaurant to book. But if it were me and they were paying for the trip, I would probably say "this meal is on me as a thank you for the trip" and pick the restaurant I knew my kids would enjoy the most.

have a great trip!

I agree - but I would add to book Chef Mickey's because there will be so much selection there, everyone should be able to find something they would eat. You won't have that at Ohana, as you already posted.

I do intend to buy them a nice meal. But Grandma/Grandpa only.

This meal would be 10 of us. I don't realy feel obligated to pay for
sister in law/boyfriend and great grandparents as well.

Thus to do that this meal would mean splitting the check.
Then at that point I'm either rude to the others
Or more likely, Grandpa will find a way to grab the check for ours and theirs because he's the type that won't let anyone else pick up a check for him.
Trust me i've tired on many occasions.

So yes I will buy them a nice meal but not this meal.

The main concern is better selection of food/higher price.
or cheaper/less selection.

How is the food for Ohana at breakfast?

Can you ask them?

Having said that, if I were going to pick a character meal for my non-Disney mom I'd say hands down Crystal Palace. Pooh and Piglet are more characters from their generation, the setting is gorgeous, and the food is delicious.
If I had to pick CM vs. Ohana for her I'd pick CM, I just can't imagine her "getting" Stitch.

Can you ask them? ...
So you are going to Orlando with a squad of Grumpies who won't be visiting one Disney theme park. Then one day the Grandparents want to go to a Disney Character meal breakfast with the grandkids., as long as it is outside the parks.

Ask them is the best advice. Let them know the cost and selection. They may pick one or backout entirely. Personally, I would never let a family member pay for our trip... I would never want to hear a phrase later on..."well we paid for your families Disney vacation and you won't even do this for us" or something similar.

I would say Chef Mickey's since there is more variety to please everyone. Ohana's is a GREAT breakfast, but does not have as much to choose from as Chef Mickey's. And as far as being "way more expensive"....are you sure you're looking at the breakfast price and not the dinner price?? I went to allearsnet.com and pulled up both restaurants (updated July 2008) and Ohana is $18.99/adult; $10.99/child and Chef Mickey's is $22.99/adult; $10.99/child. Granted......$4 more per adult adds up, but I wouldn't consider that way more expensive :confused3. But that's just me . I didn't look at the dinner price since that's not the meal you want, but I think dinner at Chef Mickey's is around $30/adult....which is alot more than $19.

How is the food for Ohana at breakfast?

The food at Ohana is AWESOME :goodvibes. There are a few things to choose from like eggs, waffles, bacon/sausage, but not the wide variety Chef Mickey's has. And it's served family style as opposed to buffet.

We have done CM for breakfast several times and loved it. We just did Ohana this last trip and really liked it as well. They are very different. Ohana is more relaxed and it is nice to have the food brought to you. The food was good and we enjoyed the fruit and breads at the beginning. We had plenty to eat. I was worried that there wouldn't be enough food for us but we were full.

CM's food is pretty good and there is a larger variety. It is a buffet so you have to go to the buffet to get your food. It is louder and there are more characters there. I don't know if the construction will still be going on then, but that could turn some non-Disney people off.

We have enjoyed both but I think that non-Disney people may enjoy the atmosphere of Ohana better.

Have a great trip!

mickeynut1,
Thanks...I double checked the prices, your right. I was thinking CM was like $28 per adult. compared to $19 for ohana.
Your right it's $23. I can live with that. I think we'll do CM.

Though I do want to do Ohana some time.
(maybe next trip, a real Disney trip)

Glad to help ;). You and your family will love Chef Mickey's.....great food and lots of fun :cool1: :cool1:. Have a great trip :wizard:. And do try Ohana next time.....it's an awesome place!!!!

I understand you point and if it was that way I wouldn't want to do it either.
But it's not set up like that.
Like I said, they rent an All Star home (with 5 bedrooms) The invitation is for anyone from the whole family to come join then in Orlando, first come first serve.
So it's not really them taking us, just us joining them.
Then since it's my wife's parents, they said for us they will give us the flights for christmas presents.

That's why to them it's not a trip to Disney. Disney is something to do one day if they want.

ok on a side note:
How do you quote only part of previous post?

Just hit quote and then go in and delet what you don't want out of the message. : Another fun breakfast might be the one at Cape May Cafe at the Beach Club. Characters there are Minnie, Goofy, Chip and Dale. It's also a buffet and would give you a chance to look around the BC/YC area and see the Boardwalk. It is generally easier to get into than Chef Mickey's also. Here's the menu:
