I want to try a "different" restaurant, but we are "meat-and-potatoes" type of eaters and I don't know if we would like something that is too different!!
I was considering Boma or Ohana but cannot make up my mind!! I've been looking at the food pictures thread, but that just confused me even more!! :confused3 What do you all think???

I'd vote for Boma for my own family, but it sounds like you might like 'Ohana better (so I did not vote).

Boma - buffet, some exotic foods but (IMHO) nothing overly spicy - and I don't like spicy food, prime rib usually available, love the variety

'Ohana - you're waited on (can rest!), lots of meat!, scalloped potatoes, more generic than exotic, fun activities for kids, on monorail (so close to MK)

My family preferred 'Ohana until they changed their menu, with Boma a very close second. That menu change bumped Boma to our #1 WDW restaurant. That said, 'Ohana still has a lot to offer. Both resorts are beautiful (though I personally prefer AKL for the animals and the breathtaking architecture).

May be in the minority here, but we really didn't care for Boma and we are adventurous eaters. We just didn't think it was that special (although the soups are wonderful). O'hana is an experience and it is very Disney! :thumbsup2

Original poster here!! I'm leaning toward O'hana because I think
we would like the food better and I want to visit the Poly!! But please, keep voting and commenting!!

From a food perspective, I'll vote Boma, just because it's something different from what you're likely to be able to find at home. Boma has a wide variety of food to choose from - if you don't mind experimenting a bit, you will likely find plenty of stuff you like (and probably plenty you won't) - it's not _that_ exotic. I'm pretty picky (I like most meats but very few veggies) myself, but ended up liking Boma a lot.

We liked O'Hana too, though, and I don't think you'd go wrong with either. We didn't find the food at O'Hana to be particularly outstanding - I wouldn't go there expecting great meat. I will say that O'Hana has activities for kids, and for us this was a major highlight - my wife and I could take our time to eat while my daughter (who tends to eat fast, then gradually get more and more restless at longer meals) got to participate in all the activities. When we were there, they had activities lasting 15 minutes or so, starting every half hour - this worked out really well for our daughter. Depending on the age and personality of any kids, this could be a big factor in swinging your decision one way or another.

We ate at O'hana in Dec 04 (before the menu changes) and ate at Boma this past Thursday. IMHO, I'm really glad I tried Boma. And the AKL is BEAUTIFUL - it was the first time we had been there. I loved the salads at Boma but that was about all I enjoyed. I thought the rest of the food was very bland and I am not a prime rib person. DH was actually very disappointed. I was just a little disappointed. If it were my choice, I'm afraid I would have to choose O'hana.

You'll have a good meal no matter which one you choose though. Try one this time and then you'll have a reason why you'll have to plan another trip!!! :rotfl:

My friend and I were at WDW in December, and we both enjoyed eating at Boma and 'Ohana for the very first time! We are returning to WDW in September and will again be dining at 'Ohana. We LOVE the delicious food and lively atmosphere of this Polynesian Resort restaurant! :-)

They're both vastly different, but if I had to choose it would be Boma for overall better food, amazing choices, and of course the dessert station! :)

We're a "meat and potatoes" family and love both! But 'Ohana is our absolute favorite restaurant at WDW. I mean, it's all you can eat flame grilled meat! Plus potatoes! I guarantee you won't go hungry.

Do Boma for breakfast. Fantastic and you'll still get to see AKL and all the animals. Breakfast is much less "exotic" than dinner there.

I think the food overall is better at Boma. The variety and flavor of everything is amazing. Ohana probably has a more festive atmosphere. When I dine at Ohana, I eat the salad, the honey coriander wings, the potatoes, maybe a small bit of steak, and the bread pudding dessert. That's it. Nonetheless, that's A LOT of food.

My kids really loved Boma even though they were hesitant to try it. Enjoy, wherever you dine!

We tried Ohana based on reviews on this board but I was very disappointed. The decor was an upscale Denny's. I had hoped for something more So Pacific. Our tables were so crammed in the wait staff kept bumping us to serve others. The servers were so busy it was hard to get seconds, and we had to beg for more than 2 shrimp at a time. Shrimp, Steak and Turkey excellent, Pork dry. But to pay that much money and only get a few sides that I could have at home, then handed pineapple chunks for dessert. Way overpriced ! My family did not enjoy the disturbance of the coconut races, kids all over and loud MC (and I have kids). Menu hasn't much to it and you are waiting for the servers to bring you more http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_oh.htm

BOMA has one of the biggest selections of food I have seen. There are some standards there like the roast beef and salmon we had last time for the non-adventurous. The variety is so wide seemed to something for everyone, and the desserts are awesome ! Finish off with a walk around hotel and view the animals. I can't wait to go back this trip. Some menu items but seemed to be more... http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_bomadin.htm Being buffet allows you to try a variety and get plenty more of what you like. No waiting on servers to eventually bring you more.

We are among the few that didn't care for Boma. We did like 'Ohana.
We plan to go back to 'Ohana.
