I agree with you. Though I've never actually tried the "old" shrimp and wontons, I didn't think the "new" shrimp was anything special, and didn't think the wonton chips were that good. But, I loved the potatoes and bread pudding, so I would be a little upset if they got taked off the menu.

What do they currently have on the skewers?

We were there last year prior to the menu change and loved it. I typically don't like bread pudding, so I expect I won't like it...I'm hoping I'm wrong. Our family loved the pineapple with caramel that we had last year. In fact, we now have it as a family treat every so often (when fresh pineapple is on sale ;) )

Subscribing! My family and I LOVE the old menu! 'Ohana was our traditional first meal in the World every trip. I skipped it last year and this year we have ressies at Kona.

But if that wonderful rice (you can get potatoes everywhere else and you can't find rice hardly anywhere on property), the filled wontons (YUM YUM YUM) and the pineapple (THE BEST DESSERT EVER) comes back, I will be switching that ressie so fast!

Don't mean to hijack this thread but Tara, your dh looks like the plumber guy on desperate Housewives!!

I almost laughed out loud when I read that! I have seen Tara's picture several times and thought the same thing myself! He really does!

Back to topic, I'm going to O'hanas b/c I thought it really looked like something my DH would enjoy. I don't like shrimp or sausage and the wontons don't look good, but I will try them. The other skewer meat looks yummy though, so I guess I will fill up on that! And who knows, maybe I'll like the bread pudding - never had anything like that before!

I liked both menus. I am a picky eater so BF who is not picky was surprised I enjoyed it so much. At the time I didn't like pineapple-BF was thrilled because he could dipp all the pineapple for himself...I tried it and loved it! You would dip slices of fresh pineapple into warm caramel...mmmm. At the time didn't like bread pudding-just the thought grossed me out. I thought I would try it. BF again upset he had to share! It was quite good. BUT nothing beats fresh fruit! Then there are the wings, the salad, the potatoes......OH MY I will be there soon!!!!

I hope they bring back the REAL wontons. I also want the pineapple dessert back!!

We chose Kona Cafe this trip because of the changes to Ohana.

I just made a reservation for November -- just in case. We didn't hate the new menu, but it wasn't as good in our opinion as the old menu.

We aren't going in August because of the menu changes. We went last August, and all they had changed was the rice and potatoes. The potatoes were NASTY. I loved the wontons and shrimp, dh loved the meats and pineapple. Without the shrimp and wontons, it isn't worth it for me. I will go back if they bring it back.

I liked the the old shrimp wontons myself. As for the other shrimp, they are actually the same recipie, they are just made in back now instead of cooked on the skewers. You still had to peel them on the old menu. I like the new bread pudding a WHOLE lot more than the pinapple, and I love pinapple. I liked the rice, but the new potatoes are great. In general, it hasnt really changed that much. :confused3

Bring back the Wontons and Shrimp
Keep the potatoes
AND offer both the bread pudding and the pineapple.

Neither DH nor I likes bread pudding, but we both agreed that 'Ohana's was outstanding. I can get pineapple anywhere (at SuperTarget this morning!), but that bread pudding, wow!

And the potatoes are just wonderful. Again, I am not a huge potato lover, but these were just incredible. Yes, I could do without the sausage, but everything else was really good. I hope they keep the menu items the same. 'Ohana was overall our favorite restaurant on our trip earlier this month.

I totally agree with this. I never had the old menu but I really, really love the potatoes and the bread pudding. Definately don't want rice, yuk!!! The new shrimp are delicious but the old one sound good also. We are going October 6-17 so I hope they still have the current menu in place.

You took the words right out of my mouth! This upcoming trip will be the first time we've EVER skipped 'Ohana. It used to be our first meal (even my first meal when I went solo) as well, but the menu changes upset all of us. DS wants his wontons back, DD wants the rice and pineapple, and I want those green beans! The potatoes and bread pudding (besides replacing family favorites) seem so heavy - I much prefer the lighter rice and fruit to balance the meal. We're actually a little sad at "abandoning" our beloved 'Ohana, but we're resigned to staying away just to keep the memory intact, I guess.

BTW, the green beans weren't just veggies in a dish - they were sauteed with onion and bacon, and had a slightly sweet soy sauce dressing. I have the recipe and have made them at home, but it's just not the same, of course.

It would be cool if they not only brought back some stuff but kept soem stuff too.
Bring back the wontons and the fried rice (I miss both)
Keep the shrimp in this sauce (they were good in the skewers too but I think I like thme better now) and the potatoes.
Get rid of the wonton chips imo

I agree. While I don't hate the new menu, I liked the old better.

The whole lazy Susan thing needs to come back, especially the wontons and sauces.

I didn't get a chance to try the bread pudding and potatoes last time because of diet restrictions (DD allergic to milk and eggs and I was breast feed,) but I will not be this time so I really want to try it. DH said they both were very yummy.

I don't see them bringing back the Shrimp on the grill, because of food allergies and this is much safer. They had to grill all of our meats on different area last time because they use butter on the beef. They all tasted very good, and the beef was still great with out the butter (and less fat too if that maters.)

My DD would like them to bring back the gummy worms too. I know it is silly be she loved them and missed them. The server gave her a whole cup full and she ate them for the rest of the day (with little umbrellas.) Last time (Jan 2006) our server said there were no gummy worms there any more.

We go early Jan, made the ADR's last week. Looking forward to it (with either menu.)

Oh and Tara, he does look like Mike and he is a Hottie! Your whole family is just lovely, you should be very proud! :)

In agreement with a few previous posts, we won't go back after the menu change. We have eating there well over a dozen times before the menu change, :sad2: and its not much differant than the old. But the good appatizers, the pinapple bread, the grilled shrimp and pinapple and caramel sause were the only things I really loved to eat. Now there's nothing there for me. I told the host and he said the overwhelming negitive response to the change has them sorry the changed it to begin with. He also said the menu should go back at the end of the "The Happiest Celibration on Earth" in October. If it does we'll be back for sure. :thumbsup2

The day I can get those fabulous wontons and green beans again will be a happy one! I hope this is true! (Though I also hope they keep that yummy bread pudding/offer both bread pudding and pineapple)

I hope they ditch those wonton chips and that sausage- I think I may have read one poster who really liked the sausage.

:sunny:
