Has anyone eaten at Ohana since the menu has changed? We have eaten there on each trip for several years now. I heard from a friend that it isn't as good now. Apparently they no longer give you the lazy susan of appetizers or the fire grilled shrimp and bread. They have also changed the dessert from the delicious pineapple and caramel sauce to a banana bread pudding, ewe! We are heading back to Disney on the 11th and have PS for Ohana, I am just wondering if we should skip it this time.

Yep its has changed and there have been many posts you can find if you do a search. I have not been personally but I doubt with the changes we will go back.

We were scared off too. I decided to skip Ohana on our next trip-- the banana pudding was the clincher for me-- yuck! I hate desserts based on bananas...........

good luck! jen

I guess the reviews are mixed. Unless you have eaten at Ohana with the old menu, you don't realize what an impact the change has on people. We recommended Ohana to so many friends and family over the years. We were very upset to hear that they made changes. The lazy susan and the pineapple were highlights of the meal. Now it just sounds like going to any other restaurant. I have to say I am not thrilled about the bananas either. We are seriously debating on whether to eat there in a week.

We've eaten many times before and just at there last month. I miss te won tons and the green beans and rice - however - I LOVED teh potatoes and REALLY loved the bread pudding :) The meats were great as usual, the dipping sauces were very nice, the salad and wings - great as usual.

We'll mourn the won tons and such but it won't keep us from going back :)

Loved the new menu. You still get shrimp, but in a bowl, as well as the dipping sauces and some"chips" (taste like Chinese chips to me LOL). Salad and beans were good.
I didn't think I'd like the bread pudding, so I asked for some of the ice cream on the side..and it was very good vanilla. I then tried the bread pudding, and I was hooked!

My two cents, for what they are worth is that the change was for the worse. I frequently have to dine alone as I am on business a lot and IMHO I believe much more food is being wasted than ever before. I see what is left over on the tables and it's pretty obvious. Maybe if they made the portions smaller. I know single diners make up a small portion of their business but I hate to see such waste.

I know change is inevitable but it makes one wonder how much thought was put into this. There is a big difference between improving and changing. From what I've seen feedback wise, it has not been well received.

Just to clarify - the dessert is not "banana". It is warm bread pudding with vanilla-bean ice cream. They serve a bananas-foster caramel sauce on the side, which you can pour over the top if you want to.

For what it's worth, I am not a fan of bread pudding (don't like mushy food)... but this was DELICIOUS!!! We actually asked for seconds even though we were so full from all of the other food. I would go back just for that. You'll find that most people comment on how good the dessert is.

I never ate at 'Ohana before the menu change so I can't comment on how it was before, but I will say that my family really liked it in October and we will definitely be back (in fact, Monday night...)

I have gone to Ohana many times. At first I was aprehensive about the new menu but we tried it anyway. We took all our employees, 16 of us, and just loved all the new items on the menu. The dessert is WONDERFUL and the shrimp although not the same as before are excellent. The new potatos are also excellent. IMHO one of the best all u can eats at WDW.

We ate there again in December and it was our first time with the changes - we still enjoyed everything. While I missed the grilled shrimp I still enjoyed the shrimp they served in the sweet & sour sauce (I think that is what it was) and the new vegetables. My DH & DS liked the addition of the grilled sausage. The new potatoes were a great addition and the new dessert was wonderful!! We are going back to SSR this Christmas and 'Ohana's will be the first ADR we will make. Change isn't always bad ... and in this case that is true.

I have eaten at 'Ohana several times, and unlike so many, I was looking forwrd to the new menu. I was not dissapointed!

I loved all of the new items except the new stir-fry veggies. I liked them, but I didn't love them - not crisp enough.

The new desert is the best sweet treat I have ever had at WDW. It was fantastic, and I nearly burst my stomach trying to eat all of it.

Many people have decided to skip 'Ohana after reading about the new menu, without even trying it. Still others try it but judge it too harshly, IMHO, simply because it'sdifferent. I went into it with as open a mind as I could, and I truly enjoyed all of the new foods.

Your Milage May Vary.

We ate there in December, and it was our least favorite. But, I like to try everything at least once so I can decide for myself. :thumbsup2

We ate ot O'hana a couple of weeks ago and I'd have to say we were very disappointed. The new desert was very good but the shrimp....oh the shrimp. Always the culinary highlight of past trips, we found those HUGE, delicious, grilled shrimp replaced with a smaller, terribly sweet substitute. We never could understand how they could afford to serve those jumbo shrimp on an "all you can eat" buffet and are VERY saddened to see them go.

How many of you remember what the restaurant was before O'hanas?

It was probably the best place to eat on property. I was bummed when they changed it to an "All you can eat" format, yet the food was good at O'hanas before the recent change. I REALLY like the fresh pineapple/caramel. I introduced hundreds of people to O'hanas and they all raved about it as their favorite place to eat in the inner circle. Now all I get is. "It was okay, but I liked it better before."

Our entire family really enjoyed the food at Ohanas. Everyone had a different "favorite": mine was the delicious island potatoes, like a potatoes au gratin but with a savory twist, dh loved the peel and eat sweet and sour shrimp that came in a bowl and the honey-coriander chicken wings. Even the mixed veggies were deemed acceptable by our picky DD 13 and DD7. I don't think the skewered meats have changed - they were great. The biggest surprise was the dessert, which sounded disgusting to all of us, but everyone tried a bite, and soon it was all gone! The caramel sauce, which comes on the side, was so delicious over the ice cream. I tried not to get any of the bread pudding stuff on my spoon, but when I accidentally got a bite it was quite tasty. My only disappointment was the "wontons" which are actually like those rather tasteless crispy noodles one gets in a bag at a Chinese restaurant - there was no filling in these whatsoever. Go again with an open mind - you won't leave hungry and you may find a new favorite.

We loved it in late Septembe!!!

They still served the old menu last September. We were there in November and the food was awesome. Little did we know that it would be the last time we would savor those scrumptious shrimp.

I'm going to miss the shrimp (my favorite part of the meal-dipped in the peanut sauce-yummy) and the pineapple and caramel.

The dessert does sound yummy, but I'm not sure about the sweet & sour shrimp.

Disney changed from using the wild caught gulf shrimp to buying the farm raised ones from Thailand and the Phillipines. In order to give them taste, they had to "sauce' them. It was a cost savings measure.

Can you order a cake for an anniversary at dinner instead of the banana dessert ?

We'll be there for our 2st anniverasary with our kids.
Banana's :sad2:
A nice cake :goodvibes
