Ohana - keep or cancel?

I was able to get a 3:40 dinner reservation for our Easter Break trip. I am wondering whether to keep it because I have two daughters that are ages 11 & 13 that hardy eat much. Since they are considered adults as far as Disney rates go I’m concerned I will be paying a high rate for them to eat 1 pot sticker. Is the experience and atmosphere worth the price?

I have an 11yo and a 14yo, and I’m in the same situation- they’ll eat a potsticker each and maybe a piece of shrimp and possibly dessert. We have a tough time going to buffets/ prix fixe meals because of them being “Disney adults” for pricing.

You’ll get varying opinions about experience/ atmosphere. We did breakfast most recently and loved it but I did almost cancel before we went based on what others here had to say. I haven’t been to dinner there in a long time so can’t comment based on recent experience.

Thank you! I agree Buffets are usually a no go in our family. But I’m struggling with this one because I really want to experience Ohana, but the price is steep for the girls. And if I’m being honest I’m not sure I can even eat $60 worth of food, lol.

Not sure when or if we will be back to Disney after this trip so I’m trying hard to justify a new extras that would normally be off limits.

Thank you again for your help.

I have 2 picky girls too... I thought they wouldn't eat anything here. Turned out it was the place they ate the most at! They liked the salad - loved the potstickers, the chicken wings and the noodles. They even really liked the grilled steak and shrimp. When I read the menu I thought "no way will they eat that" but they actually really liked everything. We even had to ask for more chicken wings and bread.

I would drop it. After eating at O'hana at least once a year for the past 10 years, our last visit was a complete bust. The service was terrible and they didn't do any of the games they typically conducted with the kids on previous visits. Particularly if your daughters don't eat a lot, I would skip it. If you want to experience some Poly atmosphere with a smaller price tag, I would consider going to Trader Sam's at opening time (4 pm, suggest arriving a little early to get in with the first wave of people). You can order "mocktails" at $4.99 for the girls (and for yourself!), order drinks that aren't in souvenir mugs (to keep costs down) and share some apps (which are gigantic). You will save money and get to see all of the antics and special effects in Trader Sam's. More fun and a bigger bang for your buck, IMHO.

This is encouraging! I think those food items may also appeal to my girls. Thank you.

Awesome suggestion! I thought Trader Sam’S was a bar and didn’t think kids ( or young adults according to Disney, lol) would be allowed In. I’m going to check this out now. Thank you!

While I like the food at Ohana, there really is no atmosphere or experience at 3:40pm in the afternoon. I’d drop it. If you want to go to the Poly, grab a bite to eat at the Tambu Lounge or make a reservation at Kona.

All great suggestions, I’m going to check the menus.

Are you going alone with just you and your 2 daughters? If you have someone else in your party, I would keep the Ohana reservation for 2 and have the girls go downstairs and eat at Capt Cooks, or even make them a reservation at Konas for the same time and they can eat something off the really good kids menu. My boys loved the independence of dining "alone" even though I was right near by. Works out well, especially on the dining plan. They just scan their bands and I always told them to use the suggested tip..so their math skills didnt need to be sharp on vacation! If youre not on the dining plan, they can still scan the band to charge to your room, if youre staying on property. 11 and 13 are great ages to give it a try. If they finish early, they can wait in the big lobby (craft corner/movie) or give them a small spending limit and let them shop in the gift shops on their own too.

Just FYI about the food - at Ohana you can also order mac and cheese, French fries, grilled cheese, and chicken nuggets for your kids - even if they are "adults" - we still do for our 15 yo son who is very picky. He eats the shrimp from Ohana as well, but the other items come from Kona - and no worries! We just ask about it right when we see our first server to place our drink order.

Do you need to pay the same price as an Ohana meal for a Disney adult? If youre on the dining plan, I suppose it doesnt matter, but if youre paying OOP I would think twice about spending $50 for Mac N Cheese.

Travel with my husband and 2 daughters. Definitely an option to split up for dinner, something to think on. Thank you for suggesting.

My girls would love on the bread and dessert if I let them. It’s always a must do for my family! I agree, atmosphere is better at night (during fireworks if you’re lucky) though...

Reasons not to keep it:
  • Your kids don't eat a lot
  • 3:40 is early for a big meal
  • 3:40 cuts into park time
Reasons to keep it:
  • Bread pudding :)

No, its not worth the price. Personally I think the food is mediocre at best. Waste of money if your kids wont eat much. It aint cheap!

Cancel.
It's not good and your kids aren't big eaters. Total waste of money.
I agree!

Trader Sam's is a bar but kids are welcome until a certain hour. There is also a covered outside seating area at TS where you can eat if you don't want the "bar" atmosphere. But the bar is supposed to be great fun! There is often a wait to get in, they'll text you when they have room for you.
