Ohana - good or bad?

I've seen mixed reviews about Ohana. We have a reservation in January and I'm wondering if we should keep it. Can anyone share?

Ohana is a VERY popular place. It is always busy. It consistently is ranked among the list of favorites on polls around the DIS.
It is on my list of must do meals. I would say keep the reservation.

My opinion is that it is a nice choice if you keep a couple things in mind. If you do not have children and do not want to be attacked (and I mean attacked, parents sitting at your table to take pictures - leaning over you and your food to see their kid, etc.) by kids or their rude parents.....please make sure that you do not sit anywhere near the 'entertainment' area.

Also, I found the service to be very odd. Bits and pieces of your meal would show up at different times with no rhyme or reason (maybe this isn't the norm, not really sure) so, while you're there sit back, relax, and have a couple drinks. Think of it more as about 7 or 8 courses of appetizers instead of a structured meal.

We loved Ohana. We had a 4p ADR (during free dining they open earlier). We had a great MK view, near the entertainment, but my kids weren't into it (10 and 13). It wasn't bothersome to us and we actually enjoyed watching some of the little ones try to push the coconuts during the races. We loved the food and atmosphere. They do keep bringing stuff out, first we got the bread and salad (both awesome), then everything else but the meats and dessert comes out a bit at a time, then they bring the skewers around. We were so full, but food just kept comin out, so we just kept eating. The dessert was great as well. Even though our kids are considered adults on the DDP, our server still brought them out their own ice cream since I guess the bread pudding isn't a big hit with kids. Chances are with all the food they bring out, you will find something you like.

Never tried those potatos, sure I would've liked them, but the noodles were really good and we had to get a refill.

'ohana is a must for us. we love the atmosphere and food, although, we will miss the potatoes. as far as being "attacked" by rude parents, i guess i could see that happening, but we have always sat by the window with a nice view of MK and have never been attacked. oh, and the dessert is great!

I have been hearing more mixed reviews in recent months, honestly. I had heard almost nothing but high praise for YEARS! I think the shrimp going away (which has apparently come back?), and the change of potatoes to noodles had people up in arms. I also am hearing a few service complaints I had never seen before. But still, the overwhelming majority of reviews are positive. We are finally getting to go this trip! We had ressies on our last trip but had to cancel them, so I ma glad to finally get to try it!

So, can anyone confirm shrimp or no shrimp? We are going for the first time in November and we will be sad if there are no shrimp!

We were there a month ago and the shrimp was back. 18 months ago it was served to us boiled as part of the appetizers. Last month it was served grilled along with the beef and pork.

Ohana is great, I was just there Tuesday night. It was a bit pricey in my opinoin up front but it was company money and the rest of my coworkers were going so I decided to go. Looking back on it now it was very much worth the money and I plan to take my family there when we go next year.

The shrimp is definitely back, it was served of the skewers at the same time as the other meats. I didn't eat them myself since I don't like shrimp but the others in my party raved over it, one complained about having to peel them but any true shrimp lover won't mind

Breakfast is a character meal with no coconut races or the other dinner entertainment. We had dinner there in August and even my meat loving DH said that the grilled meats were awful; which was also my opinion but I'm very fussy so I didn't say anything until he made a comment. The entertainment at dinner was fun for our DD but the food was not good so we won't be returning.

OK, I'm going to be the contrary one. The food is just gross. Dry meat, slimy shrimp and overbearing waitstaff. We always give a place a couple of tries, just in case we hit them the first time on a bad night. Well after eating here the third time it kept getting worse. Just nasty and annoying.

well.. my honest review is..it's just eh.. not on our list for must do agaion next year, but I am glad we tried it. The meats and sauces were no big deal.. def not deliscous, but not horrible. the salad was tasty and the dumpling things were also very good..oh and dessert was yum. other than that, just not worth the table service imho. My kids had fun though!

This is one of our favorites, for atmosphere and food. We have gone during Wishes, which was cool, but we just liked facing the castle. If you have not been, I think it's worth a try. HOpe you enjoy!!!

this is our 1st trip and we are planing on trying it out. We are a party of 3
2A , 1C(9). Will my family and i sit by ourselves or will be be seat with other people? I'm hoping it will just me my family of three.

Whats the entertainment area???I'm going on Sun. Nov16th @8:25 should i request a certain area?Not sure if theres any fireworks that night that can be seen if so where do i request to seat??

We were just there Oct. 15th at a window table to the right of the fire pit. We were there from about 5:15 to 6:20 and the only entertainment was the singer. It was fairly quiet, relaxing and no issues with service.

It is my 7 year old nephew's favorite restaurant anywhere. He first ate there when he was 4 and can remember the pineapple and caramel sauce. He ate enough of the grilled shrimp, chicken wings and peanut sauce to justify the cost of his meal (he didn't even mind peeling them). It was about $90 to $100 for three of us but its really the only meal we splurge on. YMMV.

dreamin_disney, your family will be seated at your own table. I think the other post was referring to (rude) people trying to get pictures of their children participating in some of the activities. I'm not sure where the entertainment area is, but I know they have coconut races and hula hoop contests for children at certain times.

We love O'Hana. We will definately be back next time. We had a great waiter and just had a really good time. The food was delicious and just kept coming. My hubby will be with us this time, and he's picky, so I hope he likes it.
