Tell me about Ohana, especially if it has any appeal to children in the 5-10 year old range. We would like to try Ohana (one of the few restaurants in the World we haven't been to yet) but I wanted to make sure that the kids find it enjoyable. I thought I remembered reading that they did some fun things during dinner.

It has been two years since we were there, but my kids enjoyed it. They were 5 and 3 at the time. We are planning to go back this year too. The wait staff had a "coconut race." The kids were given brooms (small ones) and had to push a coconut around the restaurant. The restaurant has plenty of area for this...the walkway makes a great "track." They play funny music while the kids race. It was fun! I don't know how older kids would feel about it, but if they go for that kind of thing, they would like it. The food is grilled, skewered meat so you have to make sure they would eat that kind of thing too (although you could probably request chicken fingers if you needed to!) Have fun and enjoy 'Ohanas!

they also have hula hoop for the kids as well. The past two Januarys we have gone to 'Ohana for dinner.

Jan 2002 when we went we caught two hula hoop contests. One right as we got seated, then later they had the coconut races, and then another hula hoop contst before we left. The second one had a nice surprise at the end as the parent were asked to pick up the hula hoops and....we'll keep it a surprise just in case ;)

oops forgot to add a few things:
-your kids should enjoy the place, and they do have kid friendly food, if the regular skewers of meat is not to thier liking.
-and you will get hooked. my DW and I did in 2002 and in 2003 my mother came up from Tampa area and eat there and in March when she was staying at OKW for her b'day she went back and took my brother. I guess the waiter was surprised with how much food my brother put away (he's a skinny runner who can eat a LOT)

My kids love 'Ohana. My DD needs her Coconut Snowball fix every trip (Sort of a deepfried coconut icecream ball - YUM). The races and things are fun even if they don't want to participate.

And the food is delicious!

Throw in the fun monorail ride and it is a memorable evening!

Aside form the above mentioned activities I have seen them hand out small musical instraments ( kazoos, triangles and such) and parade around singing Disney songs. There was another time they lined up kids and some parents to do excersizes!!!

I will be dining here for the first time (for breakfast) in December.

Does anyone know if they have anything fun for the kids at breakfast time also??

Thanks,
Kim

We were there in 2001 and everyone loved it including Nana & Papa! Our kids (3, 7, 10) and 6 yr old nephew loved the food and the coconut races. They also enjoyed our walk around the resort. O'hana's is at the top of our list for PS when we go back in 2005!

Not sure about activities, but breakfast at Ohana is a character breakfast...

My 2 DS love going to Ohana's (they call it "hawaii"). Usually there is no coconut race at the breakfast but they do have a parade around the restaurant with the kids & the characters singing to Disney tunes. If you go during dinner, be sure to pack a little plastic bag to hold the prizes (ex/gummy worms, candy shells, runts) from the coconut races. The hula hoop contest is a riot!

The menu states that an alternative childrens menu is available. We got a grill cheese sandwich and fries for our 5 year old at no charge! Our daughter loved the coconut rolling contest! A fun family place, also the food is yummy!
